DD made to feel uncomfortable in the ladies

So she’s 20 and one of the societies she is a member of also has a trans woman as a member. Although it is affiliated with her university, it is open to anyone with an interest and this person is in their 40’s.

She needed to get changed at an event and went into the ladies to find this person already there. A moment or two later another trans woman came into the loo looking for the first one.

They didn’t do anything but dd felt really uneasy and vulnerable with two male bodied people in her female space. She feels unable to say anything as when she took some woman’s place flyers into uni, someone posted them all over twitter demanding to know ‘what shitty fucking terf’ put these up in ‘her’ uni!

For full disclosure, the trans woman in question attended an event a couple of months ago (where they probably were not expecting to see anyone they knew) but was dressed as a man.

There’s literally nothing dd can do is there? Sad She says she can’t tell anyone how uncomfortable she feels for fear of being attacked.

I know I come across a bit argumentative at times, but I do appreciate that as a man I'm not the one who'll have to bear the brunt of this in the unlikely event self ID goes ahead.

But prior to the recent transplosion I never used to hear many women voicing opinions against trans people, so I do wonder whether it's a case of having been pushed too far.

I can see how a male-bodied individual with a beard who clearly resembles a male would make many uncomfortable in a female space, but what about genuine transsexuals who just want to live their lives 'as women'. It's them that I feel bad for.

What about the women having to put up with this Scott?

littlbrowndog · 09/12/2018 22:55

Feel bad for us why doncha

Put up with what?

Is a female-presenting post-op transwoman really that threatening? If so, how come we never heard many complaints about them in the past or protests against the GRC system?

Mamaryllis · 09/12/2018 23:05

Unlikely event?
You can’t be that stupid. We already have self-ID whether it’s legal or not.
Your teenage daughter has to share a girl Guide tent with a teenaged boy who uttered the mantra, and you won’t be told.
Men without GRC are taking women’s officer positions in politics and getting women’s business awards (some of whom only dress as women a couple days a week).
How fucking naive are you to believe that self-ID is unlikely when so many organizations pride themselves on being ahead of the law and have implemented it already?
And Noone is allowed to ask if an individual has s GRC. Not even the police.
‘I identify as a woman’ means you can’t be searched by a male police officer and your arrest will be marked as a woman.
Honest to God, some people just can’t grasp that that this isn’t women bothering their silly heads about nothing.

If you mean by this that you think that Stonewall's massive trans umbrella is the main reason this has happened, I think you're probably right.

Fewer than 5000 people have GRCs. About a third were born female, so that makes about 3500 transwomen with GRCs in the UK. Most of us would never meet one of them. The tiny numbers is one of the reasons the original GRA got through parliament.

Stonewall hasn't done them any favours, has it?

This person is absolutely not post-op and presents as a male bodied person in a dress, a bad wig and large fake boobs.

Dd didnt feel threatened, she felt uncomfortable. As she is allowed to. This is a female space which we have for a reason. I do not want male bodied people in it, especially knowing a little of the background of this particular person.

We have no idea who has had what op, and many post op transsexuals dont pass.

Karen White was female presenting. The pics of him with the wig and make up dont look threatening. Yet he still pretended to be a transwoman to gain access to and repeatedly violently rape vunerable women.

Yep Scott it has been pushed too far.

ScottCheggJnr · 09/12/2018 23:20

To be clear, I'm talking about old school transsexuals, people who genuinely want to live as women, not those with sexual fetishes.

OldCrone · 09/12/2018 23:28

But we're not supposed to mention the difference any more. Doesn't matter whether it's Jan Morris or Karen White. Transwomen are women, #nodebate.

You shouldn't be arguing with us if you think that's wrong. Take it up with Stonewall. They've done this. And the government and most MPs are on board with it too.

TufVoyaging · 10/12/2018 10:27

Before, if we felt uncomfortable we were able to raise concerns. Now, as OPs DD has said, we cannot.

ChewyLouie · 10/12/2018 12:17

Why don’t you try this out Scott - dress up as a woman tomorrow and amble into as many women’s spaces as takes your fancy. See how many of these spaces you can access without being challenged. Will your easy ride have been because you actually are a woman, women can see your female soul, women think you’re an old school transsexual so completely harmless? Come back and tell us all how it goes.
Then think of the upcoming safety of all your female friends and family in women’s only spaces. Do women have the right to feel safe or do men have the right to always do as they please?
