Bunbury’s Public Service Announcement 2

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the first Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3321127-public-service-announcement

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we’ve had several community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links in following posts.

Bunbury asked me to hoik up my knickers, paint this post in pink and and blue stripes and bump it to the top.

AngryAttackKittens · 29/01/2019 11:22

Behold, the most goady fucker thread in the history of Mumsnet.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/01/2019 11:25

Fuck sake - MNHQ really need to invest in some over night moderation - it's really not fair on people posting in good faith, and it also really clearly shows the message that you can say what you like at night as there are no mods on

ErrolTheDragon · 29/01/2019 11:37

MNHQ really need to invest in some over night moderation

Yes. Apart from the deleterious effects of new nighttime posters, it must be so bloody inefficient for the mods to have to come in and deal with hundreds of reports and sort out WTF has been going on, rather than nipping things in the bud.

I'd have thought they might be able to have a small mod team working in a different time zone - NZ or Oz maybe?

Or perhaps the Night Watch needs more options for dealing with trouble - and more knowledge that they exist. I'm not exactly sure what powers they have, but the ability to temporarily suspend a poster who seems to be causing problems (maybe just new posters even?), rather than suspending a whole thread, might work?

LangCleg · 29/01/2019 11:40

It's been a ride, the last few days. I've given up trying to keep up with everything. Just trying to make my (one, reasonably simple) point in particular areas.

You're doing sterling work promoting WBH... oh, you mean your other point?Grin

FloralBunting · 29/01/2019 11:58

Ffs. I'm really ticked off now. Stupid decision, imo. As evidenced by the Twitter screenshot bollocks. And now no original thread to show that, barring some snark, the women here responded by attempting to engage with dialogue. So this will be spun by the AWAs totally to their advantage with no right of reply for us.

I screenshot* comments asking for it not to be removed and wanting to debate, for what it was worth, if anyone ever claims the opposite.

*is screenshot a verb? Apologies to any language pedants in advance.

LangCleg · 29/01/2019 12:01

What other point? Wink

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 30/01/2019 22:47

Just bumping this in time for bed 😂

Perhaps throwing a tantrum in AIBU about the nasty folk on FWR could be added to the list.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/01/2019 22:56

Perhaps throwing a tantrum in AIBU about the nasty folk on FWR could be added to the list.

I've not read all of that thread, but it seemed to me net positive. One or two posters I 'recognise' defending FWR who I can't remember seeing here for a long time/ever, which was nice.

AngryAttackKittens · 30/01/2019 23:32

What thread is this?

ErrolTheDragon · 30/01/2019 23:32

Turned out to be a suspected PBP and deleted.

Ereshkigal · 30/01/2019 23:41

Ooh what was the thread about?

Knicknackpaddyflak · 31/01/2019 08:21

It was another blatant variant on 'I'm one of you but you're womaning wrong' divide and conquer attempts. The gist of this one was 'I'd be GC and use FWR all the time if the women in there weren't so cliquey/vicious/echo chamber/insert dog whistle here'. Many pointed out the fact that that AIBU is a blood bath and FWR is tea and cakes with the vicar by comparison.

Ereshkigal · 31/01/2019 09:03

Thank you Smile

LangCleg · 31/01/2019 10:04

Wind up thread alert. Multiple cases.

littlbrowndog · 31/01/2019 10:11

Plooper back

BeUpStanding · 31/01/2019 10:13

My god it's like being besieged by wasps at a jam sandwich picnic

AngryAttackKittens · 31/01/2019 10:15

I'm a bit confused, one of the wasps appears to believe that it's famous?

littlbrowndog · 31/01/2019 10:15

This wasp in question besiges every morning at same time

AngryAttackKittens · 31/01/2019 10:16

Most of us play Angry Birds or something similar if we're stuck on a boring commute...

NotBadConsidering · 31/01/2019 10:43

Bump...

NotBadConsidering · 31/01/2019 10:54

Am I being paranoid? It seems every time the Harrop thread gets bumped with his latest behaviour a couple of goadynew threads get started, or an old thread may get resurrected. Maybe it’s just today.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 31/01/2019 11:40

Hadn't caught up with the latest attack Notbad Odious creep.
