Bunbury’s Public Service Announcement 2

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the first Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3321127-public-service-announcement

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we’ve had several community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links in following posts.

Bump. Friday night plopper.

GCAcademic · 22/12/2018 00:26

Someone’s Kleenex box seems to be working overtime tonight!

Bunbury's Guide seems to have been enjoying so many seasonal festivities that it has been hibernating and not popping up in appropriate threads where the de-railing/me-railing is strongly at work. Grin

I'm wondering if this thread needs a bump.

There's been an upsurge of talk on twitter about MN being the worst place on the whole of the Internet and coincidentally over the last couple of days I'm seeing a surprising number of threads having homophobic or racist themes popping up (although not in FWR).

Fanny Haddock's frothing at the mouth about us recently is undoubtedly because he knows some people from here have reported him to the GMC.

He's said he thinks people who don't want children medicated and mutilated should be "prosecuted", which strikes me as arse about face.

A weekend bump for Ms Bunbury's guide to Spotting Community Disruptors.

AngryAttackKittens · 26/01/2019 09:03

Sigh. I tried.

feministfairy · 26/01/2019 09:09

You did AngryAttackKittens

I suspect we're in for a weekend of this so best keep this thread bumped.

LangCleg · 26/01/2019 09:12

You did! Sorry, I couldn't resist. Will be good for the rest of the day, I promise.

AnyOldPrion · 26/01/2019 10:07

Can someone please explain how to check a poster’s posting history (on iPad). I’ve never worked out how to do it. And apologies if it’s been asked and explained.

AngryAttackKittens · 26/01/2019 10:10

Can you just search their screenname?

AnyOldPrion · 26/01/2019 10:17

I’ve done that before. I just wondered if there was something I was missing as I’ve been on other forums where you can search a poster’s history specifically without just putting their name into search.

It's one of the many things you can't do on the app - you need to do it in the browser. Find Mumsnet Talk and hit the advanced search button and put the NN in the appropriate field. I don't know if you need to be logged in, I'd guess so but I stay logged in all the time anyway.

AnyOldPrion · 26/01/2019 10:24

Okay thanks Errol.

lydiamajora · 27/01/2019 05:19

Oh goodness, no new posts?? Even with all the excitement today?

What did I miss?Confused

nauticant · 27/01/2019 09:20

I assume it was the long and hilariously failed attempt by a fan of gender to make clear what women were allowed to think and not allowed to think. This included prohibition of association with identified individuals.

The idea seemed to be that if they were told off enough women would obey and fall into line.

VickyEadie · 27/01/2019 10:23

Yes, WHAT "new excitement today"?

I keep missing this stuff.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/01/2019 10:45

I think at a certain point most of us decided that that person was doing our work for us, so good luck and on you go, love.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 27/01/2019 11:54

I am just loving this current tactic of 'I'm absolutely GC but you're doing it wrong'. Transparent as bloody glass, these people really do think MNetters were born yesterday. Nearly as funny as the poster indignant that having flounced, people actually had the audacity to keep on talking to each other .

We're going to need a PMSL emoticon, stat.

LangCleg · 27/01/2019 11:58

I know! It's definitely flailing. I actually think it's a good sign.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/01/2019 12:01

"Do you not realize that an important person has left the room?"

I'm not sure you've thought that one through!Grin

This thread needs pinning at the top of the board at the moment!
