The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the first Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3321127-public-service-announcement

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we’ve had several community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links in following posts.

Can anyone explain the references to "monkey dance" and "grey rock" to me? By PM if preferred?

I've been away on a Bunbury faith retreat. We ate cake and watched really good films whilst laughing at a range of daft notions some people have.

Datun · 04/04/2019 15:51

vicky

Strategies for how to deal with narcissism.

The monkey dance is an analogy of a narcissist in full on rage, and I believe the grey rock, is to respond with banality to make their narcissistic feed dull.

All explained here.

Didn't Birdseye just keep posting the word potato to harassers on their Twitter?

Yes they did. It was hilarious and the best response I’ve seen yet.

Datun · 04/04/2019 15:59

Yes they did. It was hilarious and the best response I’ve seen yet.

I wish people, who aren't in a specifically responsible position, would understand that they really don't have to engage. Being told they must engage means fuck all.

And yes, it's a genius response. Partly, because it made me want to buy potato waffles. Which I haven't bought for 15 years.

VickyEadie · 04/04/2019 16:13

Thanks, Datun.

Can someone explain ‘Bunbury’?

Ah! Thanks Kat, I had no idea what Bunbury was. Assumed it was something to do with Germaine Greer Confused

VickyEadie · 04/04/2019 17:40

Germaine Bunbury is our guru and her training allows us to see into the souls of people talking utter and complete shite.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 04/04/2019 17:43

not really Bunbury-related but I was just on the LGBT children board and a poster by the name of HelenCBelcher had been posting on a lot of threads, some quite old. All the posts had been deleted but that just feels - off.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 04/04/2019 18:49

My favourite grey rocks. They appeal to my low intellect.

Great cartoon Tinsel - I thought the style looked familiar so I had a quick look and McNamee does stuff for the New Yorker among other places.

nauticant · 05/04/2019 13:38

That Coron Kraatz thread is a bit moths-to-the-flame. I can't see much to be gained by posting on it.

nauticant · 05/04/2019 19:37

Anyone else spotted the new faux-naïf poster hopping from thread to thread with a non-binary backstory to suit whatever they're arguing?

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 07/04/2019 10:08

A woke soon to be ex friend asked me "Well, if we have to exclude transwomen from female prisons how on earth would you propose to manage non-binary people in prison? What would look like? Hmmm?"

She's going on and on and on and on and on and on. I'm just repeating "they have a sex and should be housed accordingly - I'm not aware this is an issue".

Might try grey rock, for some reason she thinks she's got me snookered with her masterful NB argument.

Baffling.

Ereshkigal · 07/04/2019 12:14

Haha Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 07/04/2019 12:27

There really is no arguing with stupid, is there? Have you asked her where she thinks a male 'nonbinary' prisoner should be housed, and why?

I thought the cover of Bunbury's first novel might prove a useful shortcut for some threads:

Oh vicky, you tracked it down! marvellous!

TinselAngel · 07/04/2019 15:56

A seminal work.

I shall occasionally post quotations that seem appropriate...
