Bunbury’s Public Service Announcement 2

arranbubonicplague · 30/11/2018 12:54

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the first Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3321127-public-service-announcement

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we’ve had several community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links in following posts.

I seen on the disruptor twitter feed that FRW isa hotbed of radicalisation 😂😂😂

RedDogsBeg · 04/04/2019 11:48

MN FWR was a radicalisation portal not so long ago littlebrowndog, wondering does a portal morph into a hotbed or just identify as oneGrin?

TinselAngel · 04/04/2019 11:51

As they've only got just over 2000 followers on twitter, I'm suspecting MNHQ are not all that arsed.

littlbrowndog · 04/04/2019 11:58

Self identifies as one 😂😂

R0wantrees · 04/04/2019 12:19

TinselAngel YY
The 'Forced Teaming' article recommends a book which has a specific chapter on this, 'The Gift of Fear' by Gavin de Becker. I says, "His book focuses on helping people recognize and respond appropriately to the signals that people often overlook or intentionally ignore with the result that the person becomes a victim of a predator.... Although de Becker wrote the book primarily to help people avoid becoming victims of violence at the hands of stalkers and unwanted pursers, his observations and recommendations are useful to help readers recognize when they are being manipulated for other purposes as well."

I don't know the book but it sounds like it might be useful for most of us wanting to learning to recognise specific patterns of manipulation/control. I've read quite a lot in the last year and its been eye-opening to realise how frequently these clear patterns of behaviour occur yet are easily missed.

The thread about Twitter has just gone. It sounds as if the MN mods are fielding a lot of complaints.

welshgendercrit · 04/04/2019 12:32

Crikey! As the disruptor in question has blocked me, I had to log into my second Twitter account to catch up. Talk about a meltdown! Our Steph doesn't like losing or being thwarted.

NotBadConsidering · 04/04/2019 12:34

The thread about Twitter has just gone. It sounds as if the MN mods are fielding a lot of complaints.

I read the thread then the note from Lily MN and could not put the two together. No one used any banned acronyms or anything else in that message. Clearly there was some Twitter power going on there.

Needmoresleep · 04/04/2019 12:41

I assumed problems came from the OP's letter which she quoted in full.

Steph is now saying on Twitter:

"What we need is a review of s.5 Defamation Act 2013. Website operators abuse their statutory defence to permit the sort of vile #transphobia we see aimed at #transgender people by the likes of @MumsnetTowers on a daily basis."

(Sorry cant do screenshots)

AbsintheFriends · 04/04/2019 13:03

Just wanted to note that our visiting monkey dancer made a point of stating that they were off to pass a delightful morning in the gym (or some such twee language) and hinted at many other pressing things they had packed into their varied and interesting life, but seems to have spent the last 3 hours having a protracted tantrum about MN on twitter.

TinselAngel · 04/04/2019 13:05

Are they defaming MNHQ?

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 04/04/2019 13:07

Honestly SH spends most of their time claiming to be taking loads of different people, now MN, to court for basically not getting their way and being able to control everyone and everything. MN were very clear on their reasons for removing the threads that user posted, both in direct breach of clear guidelines, as were some of their comments, in addition they were tweeting pretty hateful things directed at MN, @ them while calling it Nuttersnet, referring to the site and coming to do ‘battle’, which is clearly to intimidate and is very similar to behaviours they’ve been previously before the court on. They have a handful of followers responding to their tweets on this and one likens MN and its mods to predators from gaming sites. MNHQ themselves have been directly harassed by this person on Twitter simply for having TAAT removed, and I doubt very much they’re concerned by any threats being levelled at them.

As for transphobia, MN has very strict guidelines that go well beyond the law in fact, and there are indeed transwomen who use this site, such as Debbie Hayton and Miranda Yardley.

My position will now be to follow the advice posted on other threads regarding grey stone. This person is not relevant to us, has a tiny following and has a history that i think any woman should be mindful of. IGNORE from now on.

FloralBunting · 04/04/2019 13:10

Quite. I was just going to ask why we were still referencing this person. They are an inconsequential, puffed up irrelevance, and our time and attention is far too precious to be wasted. Spend it on women, it'll be much more edifying.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 04/04/2019 13:12

Yes! Today I’m donating to Vancouver rape relief Smile

And making biscuits obviously

TimeLady · 04/04/2019 13:12

The 'grey rock' response on one of the deleted threads last night was wonderfully effective.

AbsintheFriends · 04/04/2019 13:14

I think we should probably be aware that they might appear again using a new account and username.

Carowiththegoodhair · 04/04/2019 13:20

Was there another thread pulled? About Twitter Hmm Confused

nauticant · 04/04/2019 13:20

I'll put my hand up and admit to getting drawn into the game by the now-banned poster. I'll resist doing the same again. Grey rock it is.

TinselAngel · 04/04/2019 13:20

Having treated myself to a small gloat I shall now ignore.

TimeLady · 04/04/2019 13:33

Looks like they're getting the grey rock response on Twitter too. Very little interaction.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/04/2019 14:10

Twitter thread? What twitter thread?

EweSurname · 04/04/2019 14:14

The urge to take the bait is hard to resist (and I have failed on other threads) but am determined to follow the teachings of Bunbury.

Datun · 04/04/2019 14:54

Occasionally, interaction serves a purpose, in terms of both the opening of the curtains and the challenging - to expose motivation.

But the grey rocking or the monkey dance, is what nails it.

Although I agree, if you could go to part two immediately, it would be just as effective.

But since you can't control what other people do, it's always useful to engage with only the end result in mind.

ToeToToe · 04/04/2019 15:00

That twitter thread is quite something! What a tantrum.

I agree grey rock is good - MNHQ have grey-rocked the various abuse and threats to go after advertisers for months - as have most of the advertisers.

Someone has posted a copy of the deletion message there - which is good I think - because there are people on twitter who would believe Steph was banned just for being transgender.

Steph was banned for inflammatory posting. It was obvious Steph was here to be inflammatory - Steph has been boasting about it on Twitter Hmm

MNHQ quite within their rights to refuse Steph an account for this reason.

Datun · 04/04/2019 15:14

Didn't Birdseye just keep posting the word potato to harassers on their Twitter?

Doesn't get more grey rock than that 🤣
