Bunbury’s Public Service Announcement 2

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the first Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3321127-public-service-announcement

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we’ve had several community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links in following posts.

I think they do.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 04/04/2019 10:09

Glad that MN have finally acted.

I agree we shouldn't engage - but it can be very difficult!

TinselAngel · 04/04/2019 10:11

Bullies bully because in the words of Cersei Lannister, it makes them"feel good".

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 04/04/2019 10:12

Cersei's a caution and no mistake.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/04/2019 10:12

With regard to the deletion of the thread

I, like many others im sure, showed MNHQ the twitter picture on the thread

Add all the verbal diarrhea and disingenuous bollocks on the thread itself

And thats what happens when you overplay your hand

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 04/04/2019 10:12

If you look at the emails sent to Caroline, they’re on her support thread which is still up, and then the words of that awful ‘cartoon’ site talking horribly about her Dad, and then the comments on that thread and others from the other person who I won’t name.... you can see a pattern and connect the dots.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/04/2019 10:13

And when MNHQ said 'because youre not daft'

Im virtually positive they didn't mean me Grin

FlaviaAlbia · 04/04/2019 10:16

Ha, good message from MNHQ Grin One less pita posting on these boards is always good, especially when they made themselves look like a loon in the process.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/04/2019 10:17

I suspect you merely identify as daft, Rufus.Smile

Trousering · 04/04/2019 10:21

It would appear that the identification with /of dysphoria etc has done nothing at all to mitigate the persons behaviour and emotions, quite the opposite. I would hope that medical attention will be sought.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 04/04/2019 10:29

Someone’s having a twitter tantrum 😂 it’s so funny... well perhaps if you hadn’t used ableist terms and referred to people here as extremists and idiots. They’ve got like 2 people responding to them Grin meanwhile, millions of people see these boards Wink

TinselAngel · 04/04/2019 10:29

You'll never win a battle of wits with a narcissist. It's futile to try.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/04/2019 10:32

You're very astute errol

But dont tell anyone else

Acting stupid is my super power

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/04/2019 10:33

jessica

Yeah i saw that Grin

TinselAngel · 04/04/2019 10:38

If someone thinks the thread being pulled constitutes discrimination under the Equality Act, I don't think they really understand the Equality Act. Or the Internet.

TheDHand · 04/04/2019 10:45

I see they are also (already) saying that the banning was unlawful.

Thought I would post a link to this guide to unreasonable complainant conduct - an interesting third circle to add to the Venn diagram of narcissistic abuse and community disruption. See especially (internal) page 16 which sets out the early warning signs of UCC. History of violence, serious verbal threats, repeated contact with government department about their issue, excessively dramatic language, overuse of legal or technical jargon, making veiled threats, unreasonable sense of entitlement. Etc.

The guide also has a lot of very useful guidance for addressing the behaviour - kind of “grey rock” in a professional/complaint setting.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/04/2019 10:45

Women have had loads of threads pulled, esp on FWR for being 'not in the spirit' etc ... I didn't see the thread(s) in question but sounds like equal treatment?

TinselAngel · 04/04/2019 10:51

I've had a thread pulled myself. Never occurred to me to allege discrimination.

ToeToToe · 04/04/2019 10:59

@MNHQ I thought you handled that little episode with great patience and diplomacy.

Thank you Thanks

ToeToToe · 04/04/2019 11:03

Oh, and I've had posts deleted, and even had the infamous one week ban for breach of the trans guidelines.

I'm a woman, and therefore protected under the equality act - doesn't mean MNHQ applying their rules to me was a breach of the Act. What nonsense Grin

Being a transgender woman does not allow one to post whatever one likes on Mumsnet. The guidelines still apply, and Steph clearly broke them.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 04/04/2019 11:09

I had a thread pulled last night, re narcissism, no violation of rules I could see but no doubt prompted by SH, I’m not ridiculous so I didn’t accuse MN of discrimination. Somebody clearly thinks they should be able to do whatever they like whenever they like. Well guess what, you can’t.

TinselAngel · 04/04/2019 11:13

I was quite miffed when my thread was pulled. I suppose narcissists don't do "quite miffed"

PalatineUvula · 04/04/2019 11:17

Stephanie has spent many months threatening to sue, referring to Mumsnet as Nuttersnet, etc. Hard to see why any sockpuppet/suspected sockpuppet could last a second here.

R0wantrees · 04/04/2019 11:26

Pencil's shared an interesting link on a deleted thread about narcissistic control re 'Forced Teaming', I'm not sure if G. Bunbury has any relevent work:
(extract)
"Forced teaming is a tactic used by manipulators to make them appear to have as much as possible in common with their intended victims to gain their confidence. Manipulators intent on deception and exploitation will try to ingratiate themselves with their intended victims by falsely appearing to have much in common with them and appearing to have the intended victim’s best interests at heart.

Repeatedly using “we” or other words and phrases indicating affinity or close association when interacting with intended victims is a strong indicator of forced teaming, particularly when contrasting terms such as “they” and terms of derision such “outsiders” are used to characterize those who might recognize and oppose manipulation." That's fascinating R0, particularly useful in the world of work when dealing with senior managers who think they have the common touch.
