Stella O'Malley, Trans Kids: It's Time To Talk

Apologies if there is already a thread about this. Channel 4, 10.00 tonight. 'Stella O'Malley considers the huge rise in numbers of young people embarking on gender transition, through the prism of the gender identity issues she experienced when she was a child.' According to The Times no TRA groups were prepared to contribute to this . Stella feels this may be because she was a tomboy as a young girl, (even insisting she was a boy until she hit puberty), and is now a confident, mature woman who believes that nowadays she would be pressured to go down the transition route. Sounds like it will be worth watching.

She’s great isn’t she? I wonder if she’ll cover the effects of self id in Ireland.

JillyArmeeen · 21/11/2018 22:32

Wow poor Kenny. There seems to have been a complete lack of information given to him. How could he consent to something he didn't understand? I could see him being someone who ends up with regrets.

Bice · 21/11/2018 22:34

So good to see a more balanced view presented on mainstream media

nksw · 21/11/2018 22:37

I am so grateful that this is being discussed on mainstream tv!

BouncingOn · 21/11/2018 22:37

She's packing it all in. I'm very impressed.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 21/11/2018 22:37

I hope Cole and Kenny don't get piled on by TRAs for agreeing to be interviewed Sad

I can believe not a single pro transing kids doctor or organisation wanted to promote their view!

WaveThoseHands · 21/11/2018 22:38

I feel bad for Kenny. I am perplexed by Kenny after seeing Kenny appear on the BBC Sunday morning programme and seeing Kenny tonight.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 21/11/2018 22:38

?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 21/11/2018 22:44

Fuck me - that was terrifying Shock

Callmejudith · 21/11/2018 22:45

This is amazing TV. Fancinating to see the TRAs in action

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 21/11/2018 22:46

I am really shocked and so glad that channel 4 have covered the Bristol thing so comprehensively

Destinysdaughter · 21/11/2018 22:46

How brilliant that the intimidation at the Bristol meeting is being shown on mainstream TV!

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 21/11/2018 22:47

woah

this is the Jam Jar event isn't it

'my pronouns are they you cunt'

i remember that charmer

Doyoumind · 21/11/2018 22:48

So glad they are showing this. I think a lot of people will be surprised and shocked at that behaviour. And how on earth can you shout at someone who calls you 'she' having no fucking clue you are a 'they'?

BouncingOn · 21/11/2018 22:50

Bloody hell. I've been naive. I had no idea it was that bad.

CoolCarrie · 21/11/2018 22:50

No wonder the police man is smiling!

CoolCarrie · 21/11/2018 22:51

He is probably thinking WTF ?!

WaveThoseHands · 21/11/2018 22:51

This needed to be on television.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 21/11/2018 22:51

I think a lot of people will be surprised and shocked at that behaviour

YY. I follow this all quite closely and had been shocked at the snippets I had seen of what happened there. But to see it all like that - the hatred is scary. That's what I hadn't got before how much the TRAs actually hate women who dare to speak

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 21/11/2018 22:52

it was that jam jar video that finally flipped me over into some light activism - leafleting and such. it shocked me rigid, but as you say, it looks much worse here.

MrsScamander · 21/11/2018 22:53

Watching the footage of the protests at that meeting has shocked me. I've seen the vitriol on twitter and pictures of protesters but seeing it on video just highlights the lengths TRAs will go to to shut women up.

JillyArmeeen · 21/11/2018 22:53

I'd only ever seen julies video from that event, on the stairs. Didn't realise it had been such a long protest, or that they had forced their way in before hand.
I'm really glad that's been shown.
Well done to Stella for a well made and comprehensive programme.
I have been wondering all day if it would go ahead, I'm guessing Channel 4 must have come in for some flack over it.

BedraggledBlitz · 21/11/2018 22:54

Awful.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 21/11/2018 22:54

This really is amazing TV and Stella the documentary maker is wonderful.

Bell jar footage horrendous - had seen some of it on line but only Julie B coming up the stairs, this was far worse. And the sheer entitlement! Miranda Y's comment was very astute I think on this

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 21/11/2018 22:56

so sad that Kale went ahead with a mastectomy
