Another day, another outrage. Comic Relief's Women's Wednesdays launches with a bit about, umm, Lili Elba. Because there obviously aren't any women they could honour Angry

Hoping that this is a click link.

And with that a FFS and there will be no donations from me.

NoseringGirl · 14/11/2018 22:01

Well the comments are pretty damning at least!

Gileswithachainsaw · 14/11/2018 22:02

Fucks sake

Icantmakeanomelette · 14/11/2018 22:09

I've never heard of this person before.

Can anyone tell me what the point of the womb transplant was supposed to be?

AngryAttackKittens · 14/11/2018 22:11

Was launching the whole thing with someone who was born with a penis meant to be part of the joke? Cause if so, damn, CR, learn to read the room.

HomeStar · 14/11/2018 22:12

What a wonderful show of inclusiveness!

I'm additionally delighted to learn from Comic Relief's twitter that trans campaigners are queering the lobster emoji, in order to raise awareness of the lack of a trans flag emoji. Hashtag Gender Justice.

It's the hashtag that makes it so special, I think. Nearly brought a tear to my eye.

DeRigueurMortis · 14/11/2018 22:14

Thanks Nibbly I've read the synopsis of her, my question was what was the womb transplant supposed to achieve?

AngryAttackKittens · 14/11/2018 22:29

Potential point in terms of "they don't like/they like" statements - do/don't "they", as in the actual adults who run Comic Relief/other orgs really think the way their Twitter presence would suggest, or is the issue more that social media jobs are mostly held by people who're far more likely than average to be under 30 and obsessed with virtue signalling? Do the things those people tweet reflect the opinions of the organizations employing them? IME a lot of companies pay very little attention to Twitter until something goes wrong and they have a crisis to deal with.

Grrrr! I'm annoyed because I was gonna buy one of their Spice Girls t-shirts! I guess I'll need to give my money to a different charity.

NibblyPig · 14/11/2018 22:49

Duh, sorry Icantmakeanomelette, missed that! I never bothered watching the film because I thought it looked sentimental and twee, and Redmayne makes me want to punch myself in the face. But, I've read up a bit this evening and it seems that Elba wanted to have a child Confused

Obviously, f the poor soul womb he took

Yes, Comic Relief, mixing up those humourous asides with the heart wrenching tales. Branching out into extreme surrealism with this, I see. Brave move. Dicks.

NotaRealLawyer · 14/11/2018 23:00

What the actual fuck is gender justice even supposed to mean?

2rebecca · 14/11/2018 23:09

I am amazed Comic Relief and C4 have been that stupid. What is funny about increasing the hostility between women and transactivists by such a goady move? Who thought this was a good idea? Angry and incredulous.

OlennasWimple · 14/11/2018 23:10

I watched the film - beautifully shot AGP feature. And clearly where a certain namesake gets their posing and posturing from

Anyway, I thought Woman Wednesday had already been done? (And the Labour Party didn't like it)

FloralBunting · 14/11/2018 23:16

I can't abide the film. I actually had an argument with someone who was pushing the AWA line based on how emotional and beautiful they thought the film was and I told them how shallow they were for believing men could become women because Eddie Redmayne looks pretty in a frock. Grr. So fucked off now.

HamiltonCork · 14/11/2018 23:20

There are 3.5 billion women on the planet but the first one that Comic Relief chose had a dick. Unbelievable.
