Another day, another outrage. Comic Relief's Women's Wednesdays launches with a bit about, umm, Lili Elba. Because there obviously aren't any women they could honour Angry

Judging by what is on their website the thinking behind their focus on "gender justice" was meant to be women and girls --- all the background info is on women and girls and there are two goals 1)We want all women and girls, both collectively and individually, to have equal power and agency in decision making at all levels and 2) We want the elimination of violence and discrimination based on gender and sexuality www.comicrelief.com/what-we-do/fighting-for-gender-justice

But judging by their social media its all about the trans (Laverne Cox, the quest for a trans flag emoji, LGBTQI education in schools, "Is Emile Ratelband ruining the #LGBTIQ cause to self-identify for everyone else?" ...) and now "women wednesdays" featuring a bloke Angry

Charitably maybe this is just be an an overenthusiastic woke young comms person, or are they really actually diverting money away from violence against women to the transgender rights cause?

Doyoumind · 14/11/2018 23:28

I'm surprised by the general tone and content of their other Tweets tbh. Not what I would have expected at all. Very woke 🙄

NotTerfNorCis · 14/11/2018 23:30

A big backlash on Twitter. Hopefully they'll pay attention.

disrespectfulpenguin · 14/11/2018 23:31

holy mother of god! where did they get the womb from? shudders.

Charliethefeminist · 14/11/2018 23:34

Bill Griffin @crowdwish is brand manager, marketing etc. Hope he's watching. He could read this when he's finished with twitter, if it ever stops.

Think about your donors, Bill

pombear · 14/11/2018 23:36

Candid - that 'overenthusiastic woke comms person' is reminding me right now of a 5 year old having a tantrum:-

twitter.com/comicrelief/status/1062651372829638657

Emile Ratelband wants to legally change his age from 69 to 49... Because it will bring him 'more matches on Tinder'. Are people like this ruining the #LGBTIQ cause to self-identify for everyone else? #GenderJustice

"It's not faaaaiiir, you're ruining the game for everyone else. We aaall wanted to be self-identify and get the prizes. You're just mucking about"
Hmm

Comic Relief - WTF?

OlennasWimple · 14/11/2018 23:44

That Twitter thread....!!

Once again, I bravely decided to steel myself and read the tweets that had been hidden because of potential bad language

Women are oppressed all over the world because of their sex not gender! Are you totally ignorant?

Confused Grin
Icantmakeanomelette · 14/11/2018 23:45

Thanks nibbly

(have a child, so much wtf)

BirdseyeFrozen · 14/11/2018 23:51

Emile Ratelbrand looks younger in real life than that cartoon, the ageist gits!

I was looking at their funding page.
Individuals can apply for up to £300k of funding. Checks and balances apply.
Let's form a company before someone else does.

FloralBunting · 14/11/2018 23:58

Are people like this ruining the #LGBTIQ cause to self-identify for everyone else? #GenderJustice

Yes, there is sensible CR, wanting to deal with educating girls and stopping them being married off at 8 after being genitally mutilated.

Then there is the dick running CRs Twitter feed who is having a sulk because the canny Dutchman is ruining the Gender Party.

PreseaCombatir · 15/11/2018 00:17

The twitter comments are dragging them. That’s a good sign. Although I bet the super woke teens running the account are resisting all temptation to apply terf blocker to it

Charliethefeminist · 15/11/2018 02:30

It's one person gone bananas I reckon.

Charliethefeminist · 15/11/2018 02:31

I think they'll do an Ocado.

InionEile · 15/11/2018 05:59

Those pictures of Lili Elba... interesting to see that the bashful simpering girly pose was as beloved of transwomen then as it is now.

Because that's how we women pose for all our pictures, obviously. A little eyelash batting, a simper and a knock-kneed stance. Tee-hee-hee! Being a girl is such fun!

/eyeroll/

EverardDigby · 15/11/2018 06:52

WTAF with the trans age tweet, I work in fundraising for charities and this seems really incongruous. I wonder whether they'll delete it.

AngryAttackKittens · 15/11/2018 06:55

Maybe the joke is that this is actually the launch of Wanker Wednesdays, and to prove it they hired one to run their Twitter account.

littlbrowndog · 15/11/2018 06:58

Wanker wednesdays
Nailed it kittens
Haha

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 15/11/2018 07:07

A big backlash on Twitter. Hopefully they'll pay attention.

So many times an organisation will pull a stunt like this and receive hundreds of responses when usually they are luck to get a couple.

Instead of listening to women they just ingonre us and carry on. Think Leeds council, the police and cancer charities.

NotBadConsidering · 15/11/2018 07:16

There are two erroneous apostrophes: it should be whose, and the one at the end of Wednesday. They can’t even insult women with proper grammar and punctuation.

ShotsFired · 15/11/2018 07:23

Disgusting.

Feel free to make liberal use: [email protected].

As and when they come back with a response to me, I will consoder taking it to forms.charitycommission.gov.uk/raising-concerns/

Avegemitesandwich · 15/11/2018 07:30

Hang on I misunderstood, I assumed 'Women Wednesdays' (with apostrophe in the right place) was a regular thing they were already doing. They chose a man for the first one? Shock

Reading their other tweets, it's obvious they have a woke intern or someone on their social media this week.

BirdseyeFrozen · 15/11/2018 07:50

I'm a little sick of "woke" interns. #Understatement.

birdsdestiny · 15/11/2018 08:06

The replies are bringing me joy though.

AngryAttackKittens · 15/11/2018 08:10

My question from earlier in the thread was, to what extent can we tell whether or not any given company or organization actually is supportive of this stuff given the demographics of who's most likely to be running their social media accounts? And from there, would it be worth trying to connect with the people on the more businessy side of the business (likely to represent a very different demographic)?

Charliethefeminist · 15/11/2018 08:24

I agree kitten's. I'm sure Kenny Henry would not be thrilled if Bame celebration were represented by Rachel dolezal. And J K rowling is an honorary trustee. Is this a blue hair who got the keys to the biscuit tin and has engaged in a kamikaze stunt, thinking themselves terrifically noble? I bet.
