Comic Relief - Women Wednesdays. Really?

Another day, another outrage. Comic Relief's Women's Wednesdays launches with a bit about, umm, Lili Elba. Because there obviously aren't any women they could honour Angry

Good complaint, Tumeric. I am ill and grumpy so mine was shorter and distinctly less eloquent. I've had the same reply as Torches.

candidpeel · 16/11/2018 15:05

Nicely done turmeric

Bowlofbabelfish · 16/11/2018 15:14

every individual "has the right to be who they are and to define their own identity"

I’m sure children in need will be delighted to back stephonknee then?

hdh747 · 16/11/2018 15:49

Brilliantly worderded turmeric.

I identify with being 'comic relief' - cheques can be mailed to....

SuburbanRhonda · 16/11/2018 15:59

I got exactly the same mealy-mouthed reply.

I’m going to complain again and ask them to answer the question I asked - why did they choose a born male as the first “female” for Wanker Wednesday as they have spectacularly missed the point of my complaint.

SuburbanRhonda · 16/11/2018 16:01

Brava, turmeric

IveHitPeakTumeric · 16/11/2018 16:45

Same meaningless reply here from them too.

AspieAndProud · 16/11/2018 16:50

I’d have been pissed off even if they’d included a transwoman in with real women but they chose a transwoman to represent all women.

It’s not even ‘trans inclusivity’ anymore, it’s wholesale replacement of women.

TinselAngel · 16/11/2018 17:17

How did the person in question come by the womb that killed them?

Ereshkigal · 16/11/2018 17:20

I also think there might be some tweaking of the trans narrative. I noticed they are calling us gender critics misogynists. Interesting. Or am I just noticing and it’s been happening ages?

They've been trying. It's quite a thrilling DARVO if they can pull it off.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 16/11/2018 19:35

'it is our firm belief that everyone has the right to be who they are and define their identity.'

Except women. Who are being told by comic relief that they don't have a biology, they have a feelz and they must include people with penises.

It's my firm belief that you can fuck off with politically shoring up that idiocy. Woman is a biological fact.

nellodee · 16/11/2018 19:41

'it is our firm belief that everyone has the right to be who they are and define their identity.'

Are there any other identities you are allowed to appropriate apart from womanhood?

terryleather · 16/11/2018 19:51

As far as I can see, Lily Elbe has done nothing of note for women. Lily Elbe's achievements have been entirely self-serving and all about Lily Elbe. Adopting an identity based on a female stereotype and reducing the complex and multi-layered concept of 'woman' down to: 'object for the male gaze' is not inspirational.

Tbh that pretty much sums up the TRAs...

Great letter Tumeric

Voice0fReason · 16/11/2018 21:56

Well worded complaint there Tumeric.
I am appalled at CIN for doing this. I wouldn't mind if it was Trans Tuesday but they said this was supposed to be an inspiration to women. How on earth was he an inspiration to women?

FlowersAndHerts · 17/11/2018 11:57

I noticed that since we have complained, the next two blog posts on 16 Nov are about trans people.
www.comicrelief.com/news/blog-becoming-activist
www.comicrelief.com/news/blog-i-was-only-knight-princess-themed-party
I thought it was interesting that both were from a transman's point of view.

candidpeel · 17/11/2018 13:38

flowersandherts hmmm "I will week is November 12 - 16" Hmm that seems a bit hastily cobbled together! (also the two writers have a similar writing style...) www.iwill.org.uk/get-involved/iwillweek-2018/

Boo fucking hoo.

TeatimeCloud · 17/11/2018 16:36

I don’t like the Gender Justice logo the Comic Relief Twitter feed is using. Three quite masculine-styled white male fists coming towards you.Their website gender justice page talks mainly about women, from all around the world. It just doesn’t tie up visually. Or it does it not really matter - it’s only a logo?

FFSFFSFFS · 17/11/2018 17:29

So a part of Comic Reliefs campaign for Gender Justice is presumably that wombs from living women should be harvested so that dyspeptic men can have babies (by a medically impossible procedure).

Something to celebrate and campaign for indeed.

FFSFFSFFS · 17/11/2018 17:30

Dysphoric men!

hdh747 · 17/11/2018 17:33

I liked dyspeptic, the whole thing's certainly indigestible to me.

ProfessionalBarren · 17/11/2018 17:34

Lots of TRAs do seems a bit dyspeptic too tbf.

ALittleBitofVitriol · 17/11/2018 19:22

Lol at dyspeptic! Jamming a stolen uterus in a male abdomen might well cause that person some indigestion...

Where did Lili steal the uterus from, CR? What was the name of the woman butchered for him to 'be who he is?'

BlinkyBill · 17/11/2018 21:11

I have lurked on here for a while now but this has tipped me over the edge. The world has gone absolutely fucking mad and I am off to complain to Comic Relief and the BBC.
