Keeping it classy, M&S.

Anyone use the M&S live chat successfully? I've waited to live chat and before anyone answered they ended the chat saying it's not available.

Bah.

amandadecabernet · 23/10/2018 16:12

Surely you can do something without doing everything? You're right, I'm not doing an in-depth mass-targetting of everyone who ever sold this cocktail.

Do they do a virgin PSM?

MorrisZapp · 23/10/2018 16:15

I'm with you op. I'm fine, I'm not enraged or losing my shit. I'm not dying on any hill.

But it's a bit rubbish that M&S stock an item with pornstar in the name.

ifonlyus · 23/10/2018 16:15

ifonlyus yes, that was my point. Just to be clear despite my hyperbole and apparently being some kind of agent provocateur, I haven't suggested anywhere that anyone should boycott or exhaust themselves or die on a hill. I'm discussing this because it matters to me as a woman and a feminist, and I'm not the only one.

Yes, I was agreeing with you. I didn't mean no-one should exhaust any energy over it. All these small 'eye rolling' things add up. Whilst many of us fight the bigger fights, it doesn't mean that this is un-noteworthy as part of a bigger societal problem.

MeanQueenHalloween · 23/10/2018 16:17

They could've at least got Ron Jeremy to advertise it.

RogerAllamsFangirl · 23/10/2018 16:18

I hate stupid cocktail names. Since cocktails are predominantly drunk by women, I think the sexy names were invented as a way to try to embarrass women ordering them. It's like being groped as far as I'm concerned. Fortunately I'm teetotal so I can nurture my sour misery at home.

FFS!

Take the tin foil hat off

MorrisZapp · 23/10/2018 16:20

If it's anything like their toilet cleaner 'mojito' in a can it'll be undrinkable anyway. Boke.

unicornchaser · 23/10/2018 16:23

The name of a drink being likened to rape culture or making young girls 'sexually accessible'?! 🤣🤣 please!

It's a drink. With a quippy name. They have been around for eons. And always will be.

Don't want your kids to see the word porn/sex/screw etc, don't buy them, simples 👌🏻
And be the prude that turns the tv channel over at any hint of the words or a kiss while you are at it

MarthasGinYard · 23/10/2018 16:23

Morris

I disagree

I find them more like Toothpaste in a can 😖

Sorry - I wasn't clear. I'm not suggesting some worldwide conspiracy. I'm suggesting some "laddy" bartender came up with the name. All his mates thought it was totes hilair because you had the fun of women having to ask the bartender or the person getting the round in for a Sex on the Beach or a Long Hard Screw.

amandadecabernet · 23/10/2018 16:28

MorrisZapp thanks.

MeanQueenHalloween well yes, RJ is a great brand. If porn is now totally harmless and mainstream maybe M&S or someone will put his face on a baguette.

You're equating ordering a drink to an actual assault? Un-fucking-believable Hmm

hipsterfun · 23/10/2018 16:42

While it’s not my death hill of choice, I think OP has been given an unnecessarily hard time.

Notacluewhatthisis · 23/10/2018 16:59

Most of the ops 'point is just based around alcohol/social media culture, no exclusive to cocktails with dirty names. L. She doesn't know what she is talking about.

amandadecabernet · 23/10/2018 17:36

hipsterfun do we have to choose one of those or can we talk about points relevant to feminism?

Notacluewhatthisis I have no idea what you mean but I do know my beliefs are radfem tenets that predate 'social media culture' whatever that is. Maybe you don't know what I'm talking about - ? Which is fine, but it doesn't invalidate my beliefs.

But thanks for that, even if it's wrong it makes me feel quite zeitgeisty. :)

amandadecabernet · 23/10/2018 17:38

hipsterfun I mean even those things that aren't die-on-a-hill worthy can be discussed. I care about this, there are others here who care about it. There are a lot of straws on the camel's back, not just the last one.

OP posts:
hipsterfun · 23/10/2018 17:45

Maybe you didn’t see my earlier post wherein I agreed with you?

My later post was further to that, really.

amandadecabernet · 23/10/2018 17:50

Even on the fem boards I thought there might be some meh-ish comments but I didn't expect vitriol. I posted the link because I find pornification part of the larger problem - not a controvertial pov in radfem circles - but I'm not frothing, calling for a total boycott, going to lie in the road in front of M&S hq or whatever. I do care about it because all the threads of oppression matter and calling them out matters.

Off out, back later.

Fashionista101 · 23/10/2018 17:53

Not going to lie here. After a few I do become more "pornstar" so I guess it's pretty fitting ;)

amandadecabernet · 23/10/2018 17:53

hipsterfun I wasn't disagreeing, I was rewording what I'd said earlier because I didn't think it was clear.

I do know what you are talking about. But half your problem seems to be drinking culture and people leaning over with their boobs out, with a huge cocktail. The photo aspect is the social media culture.

I am 36. There were huge cocktails around when I was in my teens. We all took photos
But Not with a drink called porn star martini. You seem to have link the above activity with this drink. When in fact psm has only become very popular in the last few years.

I find it distasteful that you sit in judgement of women who want to take selfies with their cleavage out. No one is telling you too, so what do you find so distasteful about it? Let them do what they want.

You finding their activity distasteful has no impact on wether M&S should sell a drink that will make them money.

Gronky · 23/10/2018 18:12

Could you also ask them to discontinue or rename their orange n*oni too? That's a pretty offensive term to be using in the current day.
