Transwoman takes women's world record

Rachel McKinnon has tweeted that Rachel has taken the women's 200m indoor cycling world record.

It makes me so angry for the women who have trained so hard to have to compete against male bodied athletes.

That first video made me laugh. Show me a woman likely to spend five minutes describing their elite athletic career in such detail. We are so socialised to be modest - that’s mansplaining right there.

I am a very average horse-rider, but if it’s about rights and not ability, me and my horse are clearly headed for Grand Prix. Cause I identify as an FEI level rider. And my horse identifies as a 17hh WB.

McKinnon is a cheat
McKinnon is a cheat
McKinnon is a cheat
McKinnon is a cheat
McKinnon is a cheat
McKinnon is a cheat
McKinnon is a cheat
McKinnon is a cheat

You didn't break any record, McKinnon, unless you were competing in the Brass Neck Olympiad in the 200 metres Fraudulent Finals.

Males do not belong in women's sport and everyone with eyes knows that this is taking a shit on women from a great, great height and laughing about how clever it is.

Deliriumoftheendless · 14/10/2018 07:34

Going back to that squat comment -

Yes women can do it. Women power lifters. Women who train and focus pretty much exclusively on weight lifting.

I doubt most female atheletes (eg cyclists) can.

ifonlyus · 14/10/2018 10:32

This is despicable. The gloating bare-faced cheek of them. If women's cycling is dead as a sport, then I'd like to see some of the men's cycling champions take it to it's ludicrous conclusion, id as a woman and beat RM and at least wipe the smug grin off their face.

Iused2BanOptimist · 14/10/2018 10:48

Delerium yes, I imagined there would certainly be some powerful women, weightlifters and so on, out there who could do the lift. But not as part of a regular fitness training routine. Thinking of some of our professional women cyclists, Victoria Pendleton for instance, I'd be amazed if she could do it, not that I know anything about her training regime.

buckeejit · 14/10/2018 11:39

I wish the other winners (runners up) had turned the other way or something on the podium. It's so unfair

ShotsFired · 14/10/2018 12:08

buckeejit - The woman on the right has some very clear body language though.

LemonJello · 14/10/2018 12:20

Anyone wondering what my deleted post was- it was a pic of one of the replies to the tweet Iused2BanOptimist posted.

There are only 2 replies so you’ll know which one it was Wink

I think this should be encouraged. The only way for the masses to take note is for a Trans Woman to win the Olympic 100m final, in a WR time. Until that happens heads will remain in the sand.

Barracker · 14/10/2018 12:42

Fictional dramatic reconstruction of Jello's deleted post as enacted by the cast of friends.

What an inspiration. I'm inspired to self-ID as an 8 year old and absolutely rock my local primary school's sports day. Well if I was a deluded, self-centred, egotistical numpty I might.

indieshuffle · 14/10/2018 16:22

Shameful cheating.

I'd like to see McKinnon or another transwoman try to compete against Laura Trott and her team mates and peak the rest of the nation in one go.

Kristina Vogel is incredible. She recently suffered a terrible accident and paralysis so very sadly will not be defending or setting any more cycling records. She is a truly brave and inspirational woman.

Trinity1976 · 14/10/2018 16:36

Unfortunately if we get to the point of that happening it might be then far too late to undo all the damage. I will admit, that would peak trans an awful lot of people though.

ShotsFired · 14/10/2018 16:57

On a serious note, I honestly think that all that will happen is some moody men moaning about feminazis wanting it all so tough shit.

(Regardless of the complete inaccuracy and irrelevance of that sentence, of course)

MaverickSnoopy · 14/10/2018 17:23

Question. She says that she has taken drugs which has reduced her testosterone and which put her on a level playing field with women. What's this about?

Genuine question from someone who has submitted the consultation.

Beesandfrogsandfleas · 14/10/2018 17:34

Unless the drugs also included time travel so he (prior to becoming Rachel) did not develop normally as a man then no, no level playing field in sight.

Lazypoolday · 14/10/2018 17:41

Question. She says that she has taken drugs which has reduced her testosterone and which put her on a level playing field with women. What's this about?

As you can see by the picture posted upthread, it's not just about testosterone. This person is clearly male, with all the athletic advantages that brings.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 14/10/2018 17:42

testosterone is only one part of sporting performance - it's a very important part but the focus on that one element is misleading. For example, men generally have larger lungs than women which means that men have potentially a better VO2 max - taking drugs to reduce testosterone levels doesn't reduce the size of your lungs

RiverTam · 14/10/2018 17:44

Rachel McKinnon is a man, and no-one can compel me to say otherwise. A man and a cheat.

QuietContraryMary · 14/10/2018 17:46

"Question. She says that she has taken drugs which has reduced her testosterone and which put her on a level playing field with women. What's this about?"

The UCI rules require a testosterone level of below 10

R0wantrees · 14/10/2018 17:47

Transwomen's reduced strength/stamina etc is purely relative.

Any person male / female who has significant surgery or takes powerful medication will experience this reduction.

So the individual's potential for sporting success is reduced. That is all.

It does not make someone change sex.

Sports are separated on the basis of sex because of the differences in male and female sexed bodies.

It is extraordinary that this has been forgotten.

IStillMissBlockbuster · 14/10/2018 19:02

I don't think it would be too late, maybe i'm optimistic, but we look back at all the Russian Olympic cheating and have imposed rules to try to address that.

@MaverickSnoopy higher testosterone in boys is what causes the male body to grow bigger and stronger then a female during puberty resulting in as you say larger lung capacity, bigger bones, muscles etc. Those effects are irreversible. Trans women do not shrink when they take female hormones. So the blood level of testosterone does not tell the whole story at all about the strength and competitiveness of trans women.
