Welcome to the sisterhood.

"I am thankful for activists both pro and anti women’s rights.
You have focussed my mind with your love and your hate.
I am officially radicalised.

Hmmm so she signed a very clear and straightforward group letter yet despite being “strong “ and “resilient “ she was somehow “misled” into this and “misrepresented “ .
🤔

These are real people, this isn't a soap opera.

Everyone should calm down in my opinion.

Harrop and MPs will be no safer than anyone else in a totalitarian state. The Emperor currently has everyone in positions of power by the balls and ovaries except the mass public and a few newspapers.

We need to laugh at the powerless fucking useless MPs and so called leaders.

DayMay · 05/10/2018 17:13

Out, talk to the public and all laugh at the Elite.

We are at the beginning of a totalitarian state.

Alison is on a relatively small independent label. The bands on it are indie type bands who would generally appeal to a middle aged hipster crowd aged 35 - 50 who escaped from the 80s and 90s. People who would more often than not be left leaning. Think Billy Bragg, The Cult, Lemonheads, Maximo Park, The Proclaimers, Richard Ashcroft.

Willing to make a bet, that the company has a particular brand image and certain expections from their artists to keep within that branding. Plus they probably can not afford to deal with a TRA phone / online campaign. And will have other artists who might feel they can't be on a label with someone who holds certain views they disagree with.

RedToothBrush · 05/10/2018 17:24

What does her contract say? Where her hands tied?

SirVixofVixHall · 05/10/2018 18:12

I imagine she was unprepared, as we all are, for the torrent of abuse that hits anyone speaking out on this.

RedToothBrush · 05/10/2018 18:48

Who owns the rights to brand Alison Moyet the artist?

When it's a band its does sound quite so insane and when it's a solo artist who doesn't have complete control over their own affairs / freedom of speech.

To explain it a bit more clearly. Footballers create a brand for their name to dodge tax. So you can separate your personal self from your public self for business reasons. Being a recording artist often isn't that different. Remember Prince changing his name to squiggle and comments about slavery or George Michael's dispute with his label and threat to quit the industry completely until he was released.

If the record company effectively 'own' Alison Moyet the brand in some way, then Alison might be legally tied into a scenario where she can not do or say anything which might cause reputational damage to the brand.

In which case, if it was felt she had then the record company PR would be called in to do a damage limitation exercise in which a statement would be released and Alison would pretty much have no choice but to agree with.

It would be a plausible explanation for Alison radicalisation and sudden road to Damascus TWAW in the space of 24 hours. And all the contradiction it contained.

It simply might not have been her choice to make. And it wasn't her statement, it was PRs.

Baddiel has joined up ? That sounds like a tweet telling him to dump GL for his “phobia” .
God these transactivists are so controlling aren’t they ? They must lead such dull lives, devoid of any humour.

Jonathon Best's petition is just a few signatures shy of 5000 at the moment, if anyone who hasn't signed feels like pushing it up. (Petition re stonewall)

JonnyBest · 06/10/2018 01:02

Hi everyone
I can't say much about Alison, but we are in touch with her and she's ok. She was subjected to some appalling TRA bullying and it was just too much, too quickly. That's all I'll say for now.
Best to all,
Jonny

ErrolTheDragon · 06/10/2018 01:32

TheCountryGirl · 06/10/2018 08:08

Like everyone else here, Jonny, I am so appreciative. People like you have given me the courage to speak to people about this whole shitshow. I hope Alison is ok and Glinner and everyone who stands up for women.
