Welcome to the sisterhood.

"I am thankful for activists both pro and anti women’s rights.
You have focussed my mind with your love and your hate.
I am officially radicalised.

Yes - so that vile threat is also homophobic in calling Johnny a 'nonce' just because he's gay.

If the threat is deemed to be criminal, then that should make it a hate crime.

SirVixofVixHall · 05/10/2018 11:01

Sarahconnor1 yes, absolutely. That is what I meant, but didn’t express properly ! ( lack of caffeine, now rectified..)

FloraHiggins · 05/10/2018 11:01

Blush Oh god, I had a brain blip and completely fucked that up! Yes you're quite right, apologies for clouding the issue.

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 05/10/2018 11:07

Whose right? Me? It might be regional though. Crap I'd be morto if I had being flinging nonce around and people thought I was homophobic!

WanderinWomb · 05/10/2018 11:26

In prison slang and elsewhere nonce means sex-offender ( against adults or children) and is really commonly stillused against gay men. Its a very dehumanising term and often goes hand in hand with violent physical attacks and credible threats to life .

At the time that gay men were imprisoned for consensual adult sex they were included in "nonces"

Seen as homophobic by many not at all by others , som say it used to be but not any more. I avoid it personally , even for sex-offenders.

Juells · 05/10/2018 11:40

Threats to jonny are awful and on his Twitter feed others have said they have recieved similar threats.

"I'd like to tell you to her face that she's not a woman" This is so horrible that I shouldn't laugh, but it is funny that they can't see how revealing it is to imply that...telling a transwoman face to face that she's not a woman will mean violence against you. So very very womanly.

Threewheeler1 · 05/10/2018 11:41

Aren't those threats Jonny received very similar to the ones someone else received? I can't remember who it was, Miranda Yardley maybe? The bit about coming to 'your funeral' and setting the gangsters loose.
I really hope the police take this seriously, but I don't have much faith that they will.

Juells · 05/10/2018 11:41

Should have been "I'd like you to tell her to her face..."

Threewheeler1 · 05/10/2018 11:41

Sorry, cross post. Just read upthread.

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 05/10/2018 11:54

Thank you wander. I honestly only ever heard it to mean child molester etc. I won't use it if it's seen as anti gay.

Sarahconnor1 · 05/10/2018 13:44

Adding to the list Graham lineham has locked his Twitter account and is taking a break from twitter because of abuse it seems.

Lang I agree the consultation is utterly compromised no-one can talk about it without being threatened.

Juells · 05/10/2018 13:48

Screenshot of typical twitter post in that Tom Farr article linked elsewhere. The ideology is steeped in the glorification of violence against women.

Adding to the list Graham lineham has locked his Twitter account and is taking a break from twitter because of abuse it seems.

And probably on legal advice.

Floisme · 05/10/2018 14:33

The consultation, so far as I can see, is now completely compromised.

I agree with this too. How can there be consultation if the government's own ministers are afraid to say what they think?

MorrisZapp · 05/10/2018 14:35

Linehan? Are you kidding? He tweeted about AM being silenced then... went silent?

This is the fucking Stepford Wives. Who's next to be reprogrammed? I could bloody weep.

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 05/10/2018 14:43

But....I can understand that it must feel scary when you get threats of violence but honestly don't you all think these people are just Twitter warriors? Does anyone really believe some non binary blue haired gangstas are going to turn up on their doorstep??
I mean some of these numpties wpuld be scared to walk onto my estate (and it know scarier people than they do) so I can't imagine taking them seriously.
I'm not famous though so I do get why it's different..kinda.

Sarahconnor1 · 05/10/2018 14:46

I don't think he is being reprogrammed just taking a break.

Bowlofbabelfish · 05/10/2018 14:49

That threat to Johnny. It’s chilling.

I hope he can also see the gallows humour in the ‘my cousin’s dog’s hairdresser’s manicurist is a REALLY bad guy...’ format.

Poor Alison. Goodness knows what sort of threats she’s had.

I’m yet to see a single threat or violent post from the GC side. De nada

SirVixofVixHall · 05/10/2018 14:53

I read Graham’s thread and there are people on there saying that Alison must have been bullied by the evil terfs. Hmm

SirVixofVixHall · 05/10/2018 14:55

I used to think armchair warriors, but since the Hyde Park thing I’ve been more worried, these are violent people.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 05/10/2018 14:59

The consultation, so far as I can see, is now completely compromised.

I agree with this.
Between the threats and the disgraceful shut down of peaceful discussion by Leeds City Council and others, the consultation has effectively been nobbled.

Datun · 05/10/2018 16:07

I'm trying to use my imagination to come up with what's happened to Alison.

I read a bit of her Twitter awhile ago. And whilst coming across as very nice, she's also got her feet firmly on the ground.

I wonder if her agent was pissed off over her signing that letter and got her to issue a retraction., Which pissed her off in turn And so she is shutting up shop for the time being.

It could be that she is not prepared to front her own Twitter, whilst she feels she cannot be honest. Hence telling her team to get on with it themselves.

As someone pointed out above (Red?), there could be a conflict between her personal opinion, and her professional obligations.

She will have other people to consider, not just herself.

TerfedOff · 05/10/2018 16:09

If she is going to be touring soon perhaps she didn't fancy having demonstrations and the bad publicity of being supposedly transphobic.

RedToothBrush · 05/10/2018 16:47

My spectaculation is record label told her to stfu or get dropped.

More or less.

enrichedatthegulags · 05/10/2018 16:59

Glad the wise Dr is here to mansplain what Alison ACTUALLY meant.
