'dead name' (what a shit expression)

Its proving to be a very powerful expression though.

FekkoTheLawyer · 07/10/2018 19:24

I wonder how many hurt feelings would be forgotten if a lawyer read out the words '...last will and testament of Samuel Smith...To my son Fred Smith I leave million pounds...'

R0wantrees · 07/10/2018 19:25

Its an interesting question Fekko

FekkoTheLawyer · 07/10/2018 19:28

I think a tenner would do it for me.

Bowlofbabelfish · 07/10/2018 19:29

Oddly enough fekko the two exceptions to the GRA are primogeniture and inheritance.,

Funny that...

Mumfun · 07/10/2018 19:29

bbc summary. Is the back story about them being in the same group originally that split correct : www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-45777689

agree tone different on this article than previously

OldCrone · 07/10/2018 19:29

Astonishingly, this has made it into the Guardian. Fairly neutral tone, too:

Linehan had given his backing to a support group of trans women who are opposed to self-identification and said he would back their campaign on social media. Hayden was also a member of the group before it disbanded following an internal row.

Hayden has previously accused Sussex University of being a “temple of transgender hate” and supported the campaign to oust female academics if they challenged transgender orthodoxy.

She was also among the activists who pressurised a billboard company to remove a poster in Liverpool, which said the dictionary definition of “woman” was an “adult human female” because it was offensive.

FekkoTheLawyer · 07/10/2018 19:35

I can't bear to link to the gruniard. Can you guarantee it won't elevate my blood pressure first?

R0wantrees · 07/10/2018 19:53

Linehan had given his backing to a support group of trans women who are opposed to self-identification and said he would back their campaign on social media. Hayden was also a member of the group before it disbanded following an internal row.

That's an interesting summary of TSVoices.

I think Hayden played quite a significant role in its demise along with what seemed a great many other issues within the group.

DayMay · 07/10/2018 19:54

It's in the mail online.

R0wantrees · 07/10/2018 19:56

If journalists are looking at Hayden's tweets, they will find a great many other examples of targetting etc.
No least Mumsnet.

BurntMarshmallow · 07/10/2018 20:07

Hayden infiltrated Tsvoices and started spouting about TERF's.

Xenia · 07/10/2018 20:23

Lineham apparently given warning by police www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6249719/Father-Ted-creator-receives-police-warning-using-transgender-activists-birth-Twitter.html#newcomment (this is separate from the civil case).

By the way has Hayden fully transitioned under the current law? I am not fully up to date with all this stuff.

Micke · 07/10/2018 20:26

It's in the mail online

Yeah, and if you wanted to know what the man on the clapham omnibus thinks - well, the comments are pretty bloody clear.

OldCrone · 07/10/2018 20:30

I can't give any guarantees, Fekko, but it looks to me like a fairly calm reporting of facts. It also mentions Graham Linehan's support for the Stonewall petition.

Linehan highlighted a petition he had signed calling on Stonewall, an LGBT charity, to acknowledge the conflict that exists between “transgenderism and sex-based women’s rights”.

The petition calls for a respectful debate on the issue, and contends that Stonewall is failing to recognise the diversity of viewpoints on transgender issues, including among LGBT people.

R0wantrees · 07/10/2018 20:35

By the way has Hayden fully transitioned under the current law? I am not fully up to date with all this stuff.

I think Hayden has said that she has a GRC.
Some timeline issues have been discussed on social media.
Other issues around truth and facts have also been raised.

RealGhouls · 07/10/2018 20:35

"By the way has Hayden fully transitioned under the current law? I am not fully up to date with all this stuff."

Hayden has a GRC. There's a clinic you can go to, pay £300, and it's a done deal (the medical evidence), in one session. You're supposed to have lived two years continuously in the new gender, but there's proof online that this is not the case.

So yes, Hayden is legally recognised as a woman, even if the evidence for it was dodgy.

Micke · 07/10/2018 20:38

I think, the thing that grinds my gears in all this, is that we're always told that we're being silly for objecting to being called the wrong name. That there are more important things to be dealing with than having the energy company insist on addressing me as 'Mrs. MickesDPsName' - even though I've never had that name at all in my life.

If we suggested that every time someone tried to call a married woman by her partner's name, we reported them to the police and got them a warning, people would think we were entirely off our rockers - rather than the just fairly off our rockers they think we are, just for pointing out it's inaccurate and annoying

RealGhouls · 07/10/2018 20:38

In other words, @xenia, it's not a case of having months of counselling, you just turn up, and they give you a certificate. The Dr. Stephanie used is here: gendercare.co.uk/fees.shtml Dr. Penny Lenihan.

You can legally change gender in under a month from start to finish.

OldCrone · 07/10/2018 20:40

You can legally change gender in under a month from start to finish.

So self-ID won't change anything except make it cheaper.

Popchyk · 07/10/2018 20:42

"By the way has Hayden fully transitioned under the current law? I am not fully up to date with all this stuff".

There's no way to know, Xenia. All sorts of people with dodgy pasts and multiple identities are claiming all sorts of things, including qualifications that they do not have.

And yes, you can personally vouch for yourself in applying for a GRC using one of your many previous identities. And co-author academic reports with one of your previous identities also.

Who'd have thought that a system with no gatekeeping would attract criminals and charlatans? Not the government, that's for sure.

And of course transition can mean anything from genital surgery to a man simply choosing to be called Susan on a Thursday.

Words don't mean anything.

Datun · 07/10/2018 20:50

It seems to me as though Hayden knows full well what a warning is, and how to generate one. And then how to make political capital out of it on Twitter. Because it sounds worse than it is.

Telling all and sundry that you've got the police to warn somebody sounds as though they have done something wrong, you're right, and the police agree with you. Not this neutral, it's nothing but an administrative thing, and seems pretty pointless other than to intimidate someone into not asking the police to do their job.

I suspect Linehan will take it further.

HerFemaleWoman · 07/10/2018 20:55

The timeline is all off with ‘potato’ with becoming a fully fledged ‘spud’

Certain twitter user had all the posts documenting the potatoes many changes and scams.

But you can guess correctly that twitter user got hounded off by potato, which is strange given I would of thought potato would of taken them to court 🤔

I can stand to even say potato name as the narcissist does a ’mumsnet site search’ for their name

R0wantrees · 07/10/2018 20:56

Who'd have thought that a system with no gatekeeping would attract criminals and charlatans? Not the government, that's for sure.

it was established on another thread that many prominant TRAs didn't want a GRC anyway including Jane Fae, Paris Lees and Debbie Hayton (for various and different reasons)

RealGhouls · 07/10/2018 20:56

"So self-ID won't change anything except make it cheaper."

Well people like Hayden are very good at obtaining bits of paper to wave at women. Not everyone has quite the same cunning and nous.
