What peak transed you

I know this has probably been done to death, not sure if there is another thread somewhere, but briefly, what was it that peak transed you? I don't mean long philosophical essays, but was there something or a specific incident which suddenly made that lightbulb switch on?

OP posts:
Kyanite · 30/09/2018 15:32

I keep on peaking...the first alert I had was allowing self-ID for all women short lists, I thought they had a GRC.

LangCleg · 30/09/2018 15:40

I think the moment that convinced me that I had to start paying attention and get involved was the publication of the 2016 Maria Miller report - seeing all the written evidence she had deliberately ignored.

ProfessorBranestawm · 30/09/2018 15:41

I’ve not really experienced anything IRL and was not very aware of things from the news etc so it’s only really been on MN that I’ve read things that made me go WTF.

But then I peak transed when I found out a friend of a friend is transing her son. This is a child I met for the first time last year, and mistakenly said “she” - I felt guilty for making the assumption from his beautiful long hair and feminine features. I got funny looks of course for the mistake of saying she.

Roll on a year and now he’s trans and we must all say she. The illogic of it just tipped me over the edge. I don’t see this family in person but have to change the subject if a very woke friend talks about it.

Child is still only about 6 BTW.

rainbowgrimm · 30/09/2018 15:42

There's been many peaks, the one that pushed me to action was Karen White.
I have a close friend who was sentenced to serve a term in New Hall Prison. They were released before Karen White arrived but that could of been my friend. She was just a normal girl who made some very bad choices. She deserved to be incarcerated but noone deserves to be locked up with a known rapist with absolutely no chance of escape.

Shameless lurker here

I thought people who got het up
about bathrooms were total bigots. I used to roll my eyes. I thought mumsnet feminism boards were really mean about trans people. Thinking you can’t all be evil terfs I started wading through the threads here and on another gender critical forums and the following things peaked me.

  • trans periods (mine are horrific and require serious prescription pain killers, some moron going on about how they just feel sooo emotional and how they had to take care of themselves when on their “period” made me see red, until i saw the “try to find used sanitary products and wear them brigade” which was just WTF!)
-cotton ceiling - just rape culture, this one actually tipped me over the edge I think
  • men in their 50’s calling themselves girls (i mean seriously, shudder)
  • when i realised that some transwomen actually mean it when they say transwomen are women - they must know thats a lie, this is straight up orwellian shit, EVERYONE can see that you are a bloke in a dress. Which everyone should be fine with, but the absurdity and denial of biology is insane. This is also why I love miranda yardley, I can’t imagine it’s fun for her to point out that she herself is a biological male but she puts material reality first.
  • ladydick (i just can’t even... the phrase makes me want to vomit)
  • realising that ANY questions = transphobia
  • harrassment of lesbians (not so much gay men, funny that) - i’m not a lesbian but this is just rape culture and misogny
  • shutting down of womens meetings to discuss seriosu changes that can have an impact on all of us while crying about how TRA’s don’t “feel safe” because women and transexuals are talking about what the GRA means for women.
  • demanding access to womens spaces regardless of what that means for women who use the spaces, the complete narccissim of that and the supine, spineless capitulation of the service providers.

Tbh these days I’m peaked every fucking five minutes.

Badstyley · 30/09/2018 16:56

It was the cotton ceiling for me. I didn’t believe it was true to start with it seemed so utterly disgraceful. Then I went on twitter...

Then I heard about self ID... I started posting in opposition on a lesbian forum and got absolute pelters off some of the women. I’d heard about the abuse and gaslighting, but again, just thought it was a few nutters, but then I started getting it myself for what I considered to be perfectly sensible, logical objections, from other lesbians ffs, so the journey to the peak was pretty swift after that.

ignatiusjreilly · 30/09/2018 17:17

The term "cis woman".

I didn't know what it meant and when I looked it up, I remember a feeling of cold fear as I realised the implications.

animaginativeusername · 30/09/2018 17:42

Somebody up thread asked about previous meetings and speeches, you can watch recordings of previous speeches from this link

AuntyFreeze · 30/09/2018 18:06

I am a HCP.
The distress caused to a woman with a very particular need to be examined by a woman, when faced with a man (identifying as a Transwoman, but honestly, obviously looking like a man) for a pelvic exam.
And
The woman attacked at Speakers Corner
And
The attacks on women on social media, by people representing our major political parties.

I was / am all for supporting people to live as they like, and have no patience with actual transphobia, as in insulting Trans people or abusing them, but we have to find a balance and TAs are showing that THEY do not stand alongside women.

AuntyFreeze · 30/09/2018 18:09

And I led the call for a gender neutral toilet provision at our workplace, until this shit started.

(I still support non-binary toilets, as well as there are also sex-segregated ones)

sunshinemantra · 30/09/2018 18:13

@ignatiusjreilly same here, it was the cis woman term, blood runs cold with fury at the derogatory and subjective nature of women being sub labelled. To accept this label is to accept we are sub standard humans who should be assimilated back into 1950s housewives.

leonaza · 30/09/2018 18:54

There are so many things. But when India Willoughby was on CBB and she made such a big deal about how she was a woman and leapt on anyone who even slipped up on the orthodoxy, then found it perfectly acceptable to speak about drag queens as practically subhuman, it made me think - you don't even respect the right of others to identify in the way they chose, it's just your right that matters. She is obviously just one person, but it pointed up the contradictions in the approach to these issues.

happydappy2 · 30/09/2018 19:21

All interesting points, what I find bizarre is that most transphobia presumably comes from men, hence transwomen scared of using men’s bathrooms, yet the speed at which women voicing concerns about TW entering women’s spaces, are labelled transphobic is very telling. The puberty blockers being given to children with no clinical trials is scandalous, it is just so obvious that this is driven by big pharma wanting to make money.

AngryAttackKittens · 30/09/2018 19:25

It was less a single peak and more like being stuck in the Himalayas, but the cotton ceiling demands that lesbians PC themselves out of their lack of interest in cocks were where my long climb began. At this point I'm ready to offer my services as a sherpa, I've hit so many peaks.

RepealtheGRA · 30/09/2018 19:34

I’ve lurked on here for about 8 years to learn big words and legislation to beat my daughters school with, they wouldn’t accept the sheer scale of the problem they have with misogyny and sexual harassment.

I started to become aware the posters here had an issue with trans, the first time I really thought ooooh was when they were threads about ‘Anna Lee’ being up for a woman’s position. Then when my daughter and I signed the 38 degrees petition that was removed I sent my first angry email and realised at some point I was actually going to have to do something. At Lily Madigan I got the real rage and went to twitter to gather evidence to tackle my MP. I peaked soooo hard on twitter. At this stage in the game I am beyond fucking angry, I must email at least one organisation daily, my MP is sick to death of hearing from me, I donate to every crowdfunder going and I’ve bought all the T-shirts.

I was never political, I’m not even educated, I would rather spend my time and money shopping and at the beauticians, but this is a hill I am prepared to die on. And I mean that literally, I will die chained to railings in Downing Street before my daughters rights are taken.

What a wonderful role model you are for your daughters!

LeftRightCentre · 30/09/2018 20:03

What a wonderful role model you are for your daughters!

What, that she doesn't want her daughters' rights to say NO, her personal space, her boundaries, her rights as a biological female that have been enshrined in law by the collective actions of so many previous women eroded so that she is labelled a hate criminal for not wanting intact males in her legislated personal space or even the right to say No, I don't want this, without its being a crime? And that's a poor example? Righty-o. Hmm

ButtermilkBiscuits · 30/09/2018 20:06

I'm actually going to change my answer...Caitlin Jenner made me really angry but Lily Madigan pushed me right over the edge.

Starlings27 · 30/09/2018 20:09

Mumsnet peaktransed me. I was wandering along in my liberal cloud, extending the same tolerance to trans women as I would to any minority group, when I started seeing MN threads about trans issues. I read them, at first in opposition, then I read some of the threads about women’s sports and women’s safe spaces, and the more I read, the more I realised the danger trans people and particularly self-id’ing posed to women and girls. Oh, and I fucking hate CIS too.

Barbadosgirl · 30/09/2018 20:09

Oh. I didn't take Emma Goldman's post for sarcasm. I was going to say the same about Repeal the GRA's post! Genuine admiration for such a warrior.

LeftRightCentre · 30/09/2018 20:17

Never mind all the period stuff. FFS. Imagine that! You have to have a functioning uterus and ovaries to have a period. You cannot do so if you are male. How is it ever offensive that biologically female humans menstruate? I don't anymore, I'm menopausal, does that just cancel out my XX chromosomes? Can someone tell that to the grade IV piles I have from pregnancy and childbirth? I'd like to be a man, FFS.

LeftRightCentre · 30/09/2018 20:20

Same here, Starling. A biological female competing in sports against a biological male can be killed, depending on the sport, due to the latter's physiological advantage. Tamikka Brents, anyone?

LeftRightCentre · 30/09/2018 20:22

'Men don't like women who say no.'

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 30/09/2018 20:27

Get a grip LeftRightCentre. I’m not sure why you read my comment as sarcasm, because it wasn’t at all.

RepealtheGRA is a warrior and I’m sure her daughters are very lucky to have her.

LeftRightCentre · 30/09/2018 20:28

I don't need a grip, Dance, what next, 'Calm down, dear'? Hmm
