What peak transed you

Politelygiveszerofucks · 29/09/2018 18:57

I know this has probably been done to death, not sure if there is another thread somewhere, but briefly, what was it that peak transed you? I don't mean long philosophical essays, but was there something or a specific incident which suddenly made that lightbulb switch on?

OP posts:
TwistedStitch · 30/09/2018 08:54

Surely Harrop is just trolling at this point. Either that or he has got himself in so deep that he now has no choice but to be completely absorbed by it because nobody else will take him seriously.

expatia · 30/09/2018 08:58

Lily Madigan too...

I almost dread to ask but what is the cotton ceiling?

I am going to start talking to people about this now, I've largely stayed off it apart from with people I know will have similar concerns, but with the consultation deadline coming up I feel I have to do something. People are starting to wake up to this now, I definitely agree.

littlbrowndog · 30/09/2018 09:04

Cotton ceiling
Where lesbians have to accept that guys with dicks who say they are women and lesbians now
Lesbians are now being called transphobic if they won’t have sex with the guys with dicks who now say they are women and lesbian
Despite the dick

NopeNi · 30/09/2018 09:04

It's so fucking unfortunate that people are "waking up" right as the [kept very quiet and made very inexplicably difficult to answer] governmental consultation is ending.

The consultation which will have been brigaded from across the planet by tech-savvy men, and already dismissed by the very rich men behind the scenes funding the general movement.

How can this movement even begin to be reversed?

GoldenWonderwall · 30/09/2018 09:08

It was very recently the triple whammy of nspcc/gg anti-safeguarding, the images of the transman’s mutilated arm that went round Twitter and a post by I think barracker on a thread about Debbie Hayton where it all truly clicked into place.

expatia · 30/09/2018 09:16

The girl guides stuff is crazy, I don't actually have an issue with kids being included so much as adults. Has nobody thought at all that alongside those who genuinely identify this is also just handing easy access to pedophiles? Surely anyone who wants access to young girls would think about self Id now.

What is so wrong with having to have lived as a woman for two years before id'ing? That seems a pretty low bar already given that you can still be physically male.

BlatheringWuther · 30/09/2018 11:08

The cotton ceiling has also led to problems with lesbianhood being referred to as transphobic full-stop, requiring re-education, and led to the issues with Pride. Lesbians are effectively being forced out of LGB (I refuse to add the T anymore, or the assorted other letters).
www.newstatesman.com/politics/feminism/2018/07/why-were-lesbians-protesting-pride-because-lgbt-coalition-leaves-women

It's basically the old problem of corrective rape in newspeak.

BeenHereAWhileNow · 30/09/2018 12:12

expatia were not just talking kids in GFs. GG includes teenagers, the horrific numbers of sexual assaults on teenage girls at school would suggest teen boys should not be able to share sleeping accommodation with teen girls who have been told if they object they are bigots

expatia · 30/09/2018 12:26

Think I just peaked again reading that Blatheringwuther

twofrontteeth · 30/09/2018 12:26

The fact that you aren't allowed to discuss it. You're either fully and absolutely on board no questions asked or you're a massive bigot. The fact that you aren't allowed to have a different, middle ground view scared me and made me research it more.

I agree. It just serves to polarise the issues, and I don't think that helps either side.

It was the sports issues that first caught my attention, particularly with respect to sport and scholarships.

ItsNotUnusualToBe · 30/09/2018 13:02

Once I saw that the most vocal supporters of trans ideology were so contemptuous of women’s voices, I now see it every time.

bringincrazyback · 30/09/2018 13:07

So 'peak transing' is now a concept? And people say there's no hate on this site.

PositivelyPERF · 30/09/2018 13:11

What a shame that was the worst you can find, bringincrazyback. Must be very disappointing for you, that you can’t find better evidence of ‘hate’. 🙄

TwistedStitch · 30/09/2018 13:16

Maybe read the thread bringin. It's full of examples of hate- towards women.

hipsterfun · 30/09/2018 13:16

And people say there's no hate on this site.

Correct. Because there isn’t. Unless you can link to some?

TwistedStitch · 30/09/2018 13:19

Also PeakTrans is a term used on Reddit, Twitter, FB, Tumblr, various publications and is part of the Urban Dictionary. Not just this site.

ButtermilkBiscuits · 30/09/2018 13:22

Caitlin Jenner being Woman of the Year. Angry

expatia · 30/09/2018 13:22

I have to say I don't particularly like the term peak transing either, although I believe it's intended to mean peaking with the whole row over this reform rather than the broader meaning you refer to bringincrazyback. I would say I'm peak self-Id ing personally, I have no problem with people who transition accessing spaces - as they indeed currently do, my problem is with a reform that allows anyone, regardless of whether they truly believe themselves to be another gender or have made any attempt to live as that gender to do so overnight simply through filling out a form.

There are some people opposed to this who are also anti trans, which is wrong, but the majority simply have concerns about the unconsidered consequences of this. Some of the people who fill out that form may not be transgender at all. Sexual predators already use sophisticated methods to access women and children, becoming priests, coaches, teachers, guide leaders. Do we really believe they wouldn't fill out a form? That is my issue.

A580Hojas · 30/09/2018 14:01

Definitely the sports issue. Then Conchita winning Eurovision and all her ridiculous posturing and fanning herself and getting hysterical when the votes were coming in. Acting like the worst stereotype of a silly, dizzy, breathless woman in his full beard and everyone blabbing on at how marvellous it was. There was a fawning thread on here that I pissed on from a great height. I don't ever go near Twitter for the sake of my mental health. Now it is Mumsnet's very unclear and inconsistent moderation on this subject ... makes me angrier and angrier.

Iscreamforbenandjerrys · 30/09/2018 14:09

No debate was the main one. I am perfectly happy to debate whether Hitler meant well really, pros and cons of Rosemary West babysitting or anything else people want to debate. No debate is dangerous and usually used in cults to control minds. Basically it's 'shut up women and do and think as you are told'. That doesn't work for me.

Following close behind was prisons, rape centres and twaw.

FowlerThanFowl · 30/09/2018 14:19

If I hadn't already peaked then Posie Parker vs India Wolloughby on ITV on Friday. Posie was very polite and said that India did look like a woman but side by side when the cameras panned out to include them both in the same shot it was blatantly obvious India is a man. No surgery is going to change the glaringly obvious maleness. Height, posture, hands, shoulders, mannerisms. Yeah sure they were "feminine" mannerisms but too much so. Too stereotyped. Very affected and unnatural. And he didn't know what to do with his legs so they swung under the chair like a child's. All that facial surgery and you can still tell. And don't get me started on the fluttering hands when asked to define what it means to live as a woman.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 30/09/2018 14:24

I never peaked. I just always knew. Happy to accept trans women in the old days for the most part, but knew instantly that the new politics was bullshit as soon as I encountered it. Possibly this was because my first major encounter was via misogynistic TRAs who left nothing to the imagination vis a vis their intentions.

HalloumiGus · 30/09/2018 14:26

The Munroe person tweeting that women talking about their biological reality was 'exclusionary' Hmm So basically 'Hi, I'm Munroe the real live woman but OMG shut the fuck up about your disgusting periods and uterus issues, can't you see we want to talk about all the pink and how we're all gals together!!!' Hmm Then the same Munroe being asked to be a keynote speaker at a woman's film festival. Enough said.

horizonglimmer · 30/09/2018 14:33

The expanding of the concept of trans to include a whole bunch of piss takers like Bearded Alex 'I always thought of myself as a man until I read all this amazing science on my gender studies course' Drummond.

The fact everyone is meant to accept anyone as literally a woman if they say they are, because 'you're trans enough'.

The complete and utter lack of thought or concern for the impact on woman and girls. Even to the extent of housing male sex offenders in women's prisons, or putting an explicitly heterosexual and obviously male transwoman in a bedroom with a rape survivor (Kristi Hanna in Toronto).

Rubidium · 30/09/2018 15:26

I'd been having my doubts for a while but it was this that finally did it:
twitter.com/PeoplesMomentum/status/1037641263103832064

  1. The weakness and false equivalence of the argument - same sex marriage and 'trans rights' are NOT THE SAME!
  2. Being condescended to by some berk prancing around like an 8 year old pretending to be a proper grown up lady.

That, and having to explain to my dear old eighty-something mother what a 'cis woman' is.
