Ocado boycott after support of Primesight actionhttp://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3376466-ocado-boycott-after-support-of-primesight-action

Following on from my previous thread that became full Smile

I'll be making my first Waitrose order today, or maybe going back to Tesco. Will definitely give Waitrose a go though and have placed a Christmas order already.

So I am about to contact Ocado with the following:

Dear Ocado customer services,

I have been very shocked to discover that you have waded into the trans-rights debate and have aligned yourself with a small group of extreme trans-rights activists who are seeking to ensure that men can invade women and girls single sex spaces.
As the adult human female in charge of our weekly shop I need confirmation of your position on the following, otherwise I will need to take my custom elsewhere:

Do you side with extreme trans-rights advocates in wanting:
1- Adult men to have full access to women and girls changing rooms.
2- Adult men to have full access to women and girls toilets.
3- Adult men to have full access to women and girls showering facilities.
4- Adult men to be allowed to sue anyone for suggesting that they are biologically male and not, as they claim, female.
5- Adult men to approach the employers/HR departments of any women who challenges their rights to enter women and girls single sex spaces, asking for their dismissal.
6- Do you still find the term: 'Women: Adult Human Female' offensive?

I must admit I didn't believe that you would side with this fringe group of trans-rights misogynists, but I did see your tweet that seemed to suggest that you encouraged the 'Primesight' billboard company to take down a poster advocating women and girls rights over extreme trans-rights, so thought I'd bring my concerns directly to you.

I look forward to hearing from you, your formally very loyal customer,

sackrifice · 13/11/2018 11:51

I am still boycotting.

I miss the extra mature cheddar.

We are having weekly veg boxes with fortnightly Sainsbury's for the rest.

Cheers Ocado.

StealthNinjaMum · 13/11/2018 13:14

Vanessamessa good email, you may get a call from a girl called Millie but you're unlikely to get a proper apology.

Before you close your account ask them what your lifetime spend was. I think mine was nearly £40K (Other mumsnetters' was higher). Despite that they still didn't think the loss of my custom was worth an apology.

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 13/11/2018 14:51

vicky i like their "lightly dusted" cod fillets. Tasty, mostly fish. Get them from Sainsbury's.

wiccamum · 13/11/2018 14:58

Still boycotting. I’ve found Morrison’s delivery very good but concerned as they use the same depots as Ocado! Does this mean they are owned by the same company? I don’t want a penny of my money going to Ocado!

VickyEadie · 13/11/2018 16:42

Ineedacupofteadesperately

Thanks very much! We like a bit of cod in our house.

nellieellie · 13/11/2018 17:21

Ocado say they have apologised. I got a couple of emails.
1st
“The Tweet was an unfortunate error from our customer services team who misunderstood the situation. This issue is not something for Ocado to comment on.

The Tweet was quickly removed and we have apologised to customers for any confusion caused.

At Ocado we believe passionately in a culture of inclusion and creating an environment around our business that is completely free of discrimination of any sort. “

I then replied saying the apology should be public, and got this

“Thank you for your feedback.

We made a public statement in the Evening Standard: www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/mums-call-for-a-boycott-of-ocado-in-backlash-over-transphobic-billboard-ad-a3950011.html

I have included the details below:
Ocado said in a statement: “The Tweet was an unfortunate error from our customer services team who misunderstood the situation. This issue is not something for Ocado to comment on.

"The Tweet was quickly removed and we have apologised to customers for any confusion caused.

"At Ocado we believe passionately in a culture of inclusion and creating an environment around our business that is completely free of discrimination of any sort.”

You are a very valued customer and we hope you reconsider your decision to shop with us.”

I am still with Waitrose, it’s not exactly an apology for what has been said, but I think that’s unrealistic.

witchmountain · 15/11/2018 17:48

It’s massively inconvenient. I was an irregular order so held out for a public apology for a while. The bollocks about “confusion” made it even worse in my opinion, I really dislike being patronised.

I’ve got a farmdrop order coming tonight which I’m quite excited about!

sackrifice · 15/11/2018 17:54

Confused? I was never confused. Until Ocado apologise and accept that the concept of women does indeed exist and doesn't include men, I'll spend my money more wisely thanks.

OhHolyJesus · 15/11/2018 18:53

I put an order through and then remembered I was boycotting so swiftly cancelled and to be fair I had great customer service. You see if it wasn't for their politics I'd still be ordering with them, but like others I await the public apology before spending money with them again.

GetOvaIt · 15/11/2018 19:09

Sainsbury's has more substitions but I'm saving so much money!

TheMinorityEngineer · 15/11/2018 20:12

Been shopping online with Waitrose instead, it’s great, I shop with Waitrose IRL anyway and have a MyWaitrose card and the web lists everything I’ve ever bought under favourites and I just click click click away, no need to search much.

witchmountain · 15/11/2018 21:17

I tried Waitrose and have used them in the past but it turned out that quite a lot of what I used to order from Ocado wasn't available.

The Farmdrop experience was LOVELY! No substitutions, came when they said they would (1hr slots). The man delivering was quite excited when he heard it was my first order. I feel like I've got a fridge full of real food. Less plastic packaging than Ocado. If anyone wants a referral code pm me and I'll send one, it gives you (and me) £30 off.

ourkidmolly · 16/11/2018 09:37

Still boycotting. Really miss Ocado but what can you do.

BoogieFeet · 16/11/2018 09:51

Still boycotting.

Thought it would be more inconvenient than it has been to be honest. Only just bothered to do an online shop since the boycott as I’ve just been more organised on regular shops.

Managed to get a next day delivery from Sainsbury’s at a sensible time for 50p. And I could choose for no plastic bags to be used. And it cost less than my Ocado shops used to.

Tanith · 16/11/2018 09:51

@PerverseConverse I think this boycott is a pointless waste of time, that’s all.
They’ve resolved the situation so far as I’m concerned.
That I refuse to carry on a spiteful vendetta against them doesn’t make me any more or less principled than you. It simply means I disagree with you and I think there are more important things to concentrate on.

PerverseConverse · 26/11/2018 20:02

Just got £20 off my £90 Waitrose order plus promotional savings of £14 Smile

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 26/11/2018 21:29

Still boycotting. Never going back.

Sainsbury's are very reliable round here, always on time, and their pickers are properly trained, the stuff they pack is the same as I'd choose for myself, longest sell by dates, no manky fruit/veg and no weird meat and fish substitutions for unavailable vegetarian options.

Iceland do free next day delivery if you spend over £35. They have a surprisingly good range of vegan and vegetarian stuff, as well as some very naice frozen veg (Chantenay Carrots, Sugar Snap Peas, Romanesco and Red Onion, Tenderstem Frozen Broccoli, and fancy little bundles of carrots and beans tied up in a courgette ribbon). I'm wishing my freezer was bigger so I could invest in some of their Christmas desserts.
