Ocado boycott after support of Primesight action

On discovering today that Ocado are continuing to use Primesight after they removed Standing For Women's billboard, thereby showing they have no respect for women or our rights, I have emailed them to tell them that I will no longer shop with them as they support misogyny. I'm just wondering how many others have done the same and hoping this thread gets picked up by twitter and/or the press.

Bet they are currently thinking "oh fuck we've tried to be edgy but have isolated our target market."

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/09/2018 00:45

I actually think that whoever was manning Ocado's Twitter account misunderstood the question and was over-eager to appear inclusive and woke.

I imagine there's been an almighty kerfuffle at OcadoHQ once they realised the ramifications.

It will be interesting to see if, and how, they row back from this.

I'll wait until I see how they respond once the big boys have formulated the 'official response' before I switch to another online delivery service.

ItsNotUnusualToBe · 26/09/2018 00:51

I want tshirt with these:Grin
BesmirchingMotherhood
Woman = adult female human grocery-purchasing-decisions maker
VillageCats
Woman = your customer base you asshats!

Writersblock2 · 26/09/2018 01:16

I love how everyone is cancelling - well done! They don’t deliver in my area, thank god, but now I know to tell everyone when they do why they shouldn’t shop there!

GulagMilkMonitor · 26/09/2018 03:19

Their response was something else entirely. I have cancelled my order for this week along with my smart pass.
I shop with Ocado and occasionally Morrison’s and have 9 mouths to feed in my household, I spend thousands with them.

I will no longer fund a company who view the existence and reality of “woman” as problematic.

AgnesNaismith · 26/09/2018 03:25

I have been waiting for the Ocado Christmas slots, booked Waitrose instead, thank you!!

I’ll also be asking them to remove all data and not contact me.

AgnesNaismith · 26/09/2018 03:27

Have the tweets been taken down?

DoubleBarrelledDrinksMachine · 26/09/2018 03:40

Ocado has lost my custom too. I can not shop with a company that believes "woman" is a hateful concept. Whoever it was upthread that would find a boycott tricky, don't worry - my SIL also uses Ocado so I will get in touch and convince her to switch retailers on your behalf. I'll be mentioning it to several friends too.

Charliethefeminist · 26/09/2018 05:08

Agnes, no. They are on replies, 16 hours ago, so about three o'clock yesterday?

Charliethefeminist · 26/09/2018 05:11

I'm sure there are lots of men people who have spent the night in their basements working out the Ocado system to plave new orders. Ocado won't row back. Powerful tansactivists will have blammed them with love in private emails.

Sashkin · 26/09/2018 05:33

Ocado don’t book billboards direct with Primesight anyway. Nobody does, you have to go via specialist media buyers. There are three layers of bureaucracy between Ocado and Primesight, so this is just Ocado’s twitter account grandstanding to appear more on-trend. It would be like me “boycotting” whoever Ocado subcontract their logistics out to...

Bumpitybumper · 26/09/2018 05:35

I spend over £150 a week with Ocado, going to search for an alternative now. Shame on them!

CrackpotsArePots · 26/09/2018 06:15

Have emailed them

NicoAndTheNiners · 26/09/2018 06:23

Another person here who will be taking their £100 a week custom elsewhere. Bye bye Ocado.

sashh · 26/09/2018 06:32

Any suggestions for replacement? Tesco? Sainsbury's?

I tend to use Tesco (I go through mysupermarket.com and it's usually cheaper than Sainsbury's).

When we had the snow and bad weather my carer couldn't get to me Tesco drivers not only brought the food into the kitchen and unpacked it on to the counters and asked if I needed help putting it away.

I emailed them to say they went above and beyond and got a lovely phone call from their manager.

Their substitutions can be a bit odd though, I asked fro spring roll wrappers and got 2kg of frozen prawns!

CallingDannyBoy · 26/09/2018 06:45

Emailed and requested some clarity as to why women = adult human female is transphobic

BrisaOtonal · 26/09/2018 06:47

We all need to stop spending money in companies that do not have our best interests at heart.

I am cancelling too.

SugarButterFlour · 26/09/2018 06:55

My weekly £150+ shop is also now going elsewhere.

Shampooeeee · 26/09/2018 06:59

I’m not in the uk so can’t boycott Ocado but I can and I will sell my shares in the company.
Woman= adult human female who controls the grocery budget AND trades on the stock market.

Urbanbeetler · 26/09/2018 07:01

I have mixed feelings about this whole thi

Urbanbeetler · 26/09/2018 07:04

Sorry - I have mixed feelings about this whole thing but you cant deny the billboard was meant to be provocative. It was meant to hit hard so you can’t pretend it was a simple innocent fact given with no subtext. If you did a billboard saying ‘Men and women make babies’ after a high profile gay marriage and new child case, you’d be staying facts but again, being provocative. You can’t deny the inferrence and it’s political message.

QueenYnci · 26/09/2018 07:05

I've emailed them. I've got to find another supermarket for the Christmas shopping now (and for the two orders we do every week).

I did like Ocado. Oh well, I'll get over it.

sashh · 26/09/2018 07:16

I’m not in the uk so can’t boycott Ocado but I can and I will sell my shares in the company.

DON'T DO IT.

Sorry to shout

If you have shares you can go to the share holder's meetings and ask questions. If you are not in the country you can nominate someone to vote and speak on your behalf.

You could ask Posie Parker to go.

If yo do really want to sell then it would be best to do it as a group action. I'm prepared to buy their shares just to sell them on a set date.

tenbob · 26/09/2018 07:30

I've just called Ocado to cancel my smart pass, and £200 order due for delivery today

The woman I spoke to asked why and I have her a quick summary of Ocado attacking women's rights on twitter and backing groups looking to attack women

She said they have had an email about this issue this morning which says they should go and speak to the management team if they get calls or have concerns about what has been said on Twitter

So, please call them and cancel your smart passes and orders, and let the management know why

PerspicaciaTick · 26/09/2018 07:30

Urbanbeetler I e been wo Deri. G what would have happened if the poster had simply had a dictionary of man = adult male human. Would that have been viewed as offensive and transphobic? Or would it have passed uncommented as utterly unremarkable?
