Ocado boycott after support of Primesight action

On discovering today that Ocado are continuing to use Primesight after they removed Standing For Women's billboard, thereby showing they have no respect for women or our rights, I have emailed them to tell them that I will no longer shop with them as they support misogyny. I'm just wondering how many others have done the same and hoping this thread gets picked up by twitter and/or the press.

Agh. "I've been wondering"

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 26/09/2018 07:33

I am a really loyal Ocado customer - the sort that gets to book her Christmas slots on October 1st, that sort of thing. But my DH who loves them even more, is prone to ringing up and speaking to the CEO when they mess up. I don’t know how he does it, but he gets through. Might wind him up on this as he is going to be gutted when I say we have to stop using them. I am the one who placed all the orders and I ain’t going to do so any more.

Geraldine170 · 26/09/2018 07:37

Someone suggested putting this on AIBU and I think it’s a really good idea.

One place where we have an advantage is just sheer numbers and financial clout. There are far more women worried about this than there are transwomen or trans men. So we can be much more effective with complaints and boycotts.

I’m not involved with any of the groups, not held near me and can’t travel. However I’m wondering whether FairPlay for women or a woman’s place would think about getting an organised campaign together to increase its effectiveness?

Lush, Dove Ocado all helping me trim my spending

IAmLurkacus · 26/09/2018 07:43

What’ve Dove done? I’m currently boycotting topshop, m and s, primark, Lush, Poundland, guardian and now Ocado.

Will add Dove if I have to but can someone please recommend a replacement fake tan?

Tartle · 26/09/2018 07:44

Why do I have to boycott Poundland? Missed that one!

IAmLurkacus · 26/09/2018 07:46

I’m boycotting Poundland over their xmas ‘teabagging’ ads. Home bargains are probably extremely grateful for this Grin

TrumpsToddlerTantrums · 26/09/2018 07:47

I've emailed to cancel my Smart Pass and Reserved service. I'm going to call after the school run and speak to someone in person to make sure it happens immediately.

HaveIDoneSomethingSilly · 26/09/2018 07:51

Thank you for the info. I spend a fortune with them, 2 adults, 5 children and look after extended family regularly. Used them for years but will not do so anymore. Such a shame.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 26/09/2018 07:51

I forgot Dove and primark!

IAmLurkacus · 26/09/2018 07:52

What have Dove done? What have I missed?

TonnoEMaionese · 26/09/2018 07:55

Dove stuff is shit anyhow - 1/4 moisturiser and yet my skin seems dryer after

I'm non-UK right now too, used to use Ocado, was looking forward to using them again when I move back. Won't be doing that after all then.

calpop · 26/09/2018 07:57

Suggest we all start doing this:
twitter.com/ItCistern/status/1044842755523006464?s=09

Will be interesting to see how far Twitter will go banning large chunks of their already slowing membership levels.

IAmLurkacus · 26/09/2018 07:58

I’ve googled, appears Dove are racist? Missed that one ☹️ I’m guessing TRA demands would be right up their street then? Guess I’m going to have to get my tan from eating shitloads of Birdseye carrots

TimeLady · 26/09/2018 08:00

I bet whoever is responsible for Ocada's social media didn't have much sleep last night. Grin

SolidarityGdansk · 26/09/2018 08:07

Don’t just cancel your order. Write to them and tell them your concerns and threaten to cancel - there is a contact us link on the app

I have just done this. I have been shopping with them for 10 years - they can look up my records and check this fact.

Let’s see how much they want to keep my custom.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 26/09/2018 08:09

I dont think that the dive as was racist - the one with the women pulling off a jumper and changing race? The whole as went back and forth but the clip of a black woman 'turnige white' was the one replayed as evidence of racism.

I remember their press ad a while ago with a gaggle of females advertising soap or something with one little to Ken lad in the front in a frilly tutu.

BiologyMatters · 26/09/2018 08:09

I love this thread. I'm not rich enough to shop at Ocado but it just goes to show what ordinary women can do. It sounds like Ocado are having a serious rethink - because of you lot!

Coldallthetime · 26/09/2018 08:09

I have emailed to cancel my smartpass.

But, I do need to shop online!

Which company is a better alternative?

SolidarityGdansk · 26/09/2018 08:17

I can’t find the tweet online - have they deleted it?

Coldallthetime · 26/09/2018 08:23

The two tweets are still there.

Look under' tweets and replies' on the Ocado account.

TerfsUp · 26/09/2018 08:24

That's a shame. I have used Ocado in the past but no more.

PerfPower · 26/09/2018 08:25

I alternated between Tesco and Ocado for shopping deliveries. No problem for me to cancel Ocado, I'll email or phone later to make sure they know why.

We have immense power voting with our purses/wallets, I probably make the spending decisions for about 90% of our household income.

GulagMilkMonitor · 26/09/2018 08:25

I'm prepared to buy their shares just to sell them on a set date.

I know very little about buying and selling shares (although will check which shares I have through my pension and think about actions) but is this something that would help? I am more than prepared to do this.

BrisaOtonal · 26/09/2018 08:26

I don't use them religiously but just emailed them to tell them to shut down my account and take me off their mailing list. I told them exactly why I was doing it and that I didn't align myself with companies that don't share my values (their words off Twitter).

Someone in their media department has actually made a massive boo boo.

If you are a large, powerful company and a trans activist starts banging on at you why can't you just say that you are not getting involved? Why do you have to go to great lengths to denounce anything publicly? Why didn't this person think this through? Is it because they all think women are just thick?
