Can't believe the guides twitter feed.

They include this about girls attitude towards their bodies.

'We need to protect young women' but not from boys.

They're just trolling with this shit. It's embarrassing to watch them. They've no shame at all.

UpstartCrow · 23/09/2018 13:27

People who take charge of children have no right to be this blinkered and disconnected. Their left hand is supposed to know what their right is doing, its part of safeguarding.

OvaHere · 23/09/2018 13:30

twitter.com/Girlguiding/status/1043527857270652928

They posted this today about girls standing up for their rights. The rank hypocrisy stinks.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 23/09/2018 13:31

Look at the replies though, they're getting a pasting

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 23/09/2018 13:39

I have been wondering how this utter shit show is happening think there must be a massive flaw in Girl Guides recruiting paid staff, so those at head office on the payroll see it just as a job and simply don't give a fuck about the ethos of the organisation or its founding principles. They probably regularly scan through situations vacant hoping to work somewhere with better coffee and nicer desks. They don't give a fuck about empowering girls like the volunteers, the girls and the parents do. Just watching the clock until the week is over and they can get pissed at the weekend.

It's the only explanation.

OvaHere · 23/09/2018 13:44

Yes Clarice and probably because those at the top always have an eye on the next job it will be important to them to appear woke should the next career opportunity be at Stonewall etc..

IceRebel · 23/09/2018 13:56

@wheredowebegintocovetclarice I also believe there's a huge gap between the volunteers and the paid staff. They don't seem to represent the vast majority of the on the ground Guiders, it's like they work from an ivory tower.

The rest of us, rarely get a say in policies, or guiding as a whole. Yet we're the ones who run their units whilst holding down full time jobs, who buy materials out of their own pockets to facilitate activities because the budget is low after census. The ones who provide a safe environment for girls to forget their worries, whether it's exam stress, problems at home or whatever else may be on their minds.

It's so frustrating that Guiding is now been portrayed in such a negative light, as unlike Girlguiding HQ the vast majority of us on the ground volunteers have the girl's best interests at heart. However, whilst HQ and other paid members will still have a job, our girls will be the one's who will suffer the most when more units start closing, and their safe spaces have been removed through no fault of their leaders or themselves. Sad

CrackpotsArePots · 23/09/2018 13:56

Phew! Excellent responses on there.

HumphreyCobblers · 23/09/2018 14:07

There are brilliant responses on that twitter feed.

Thank goodness for some sanity in this debate. I woke up to the news that that Guide Leader had been removed from her post and it was the most depressing thing to hear.

People who do not understand that we shouldn't have male bodied people in female accommodation are a mystery to me. Why on earth can they not see that it is not the trans status that is in question but the MALE status? None of those people would agree to get rid of sex segregation it its entirety.

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 23/09/2018 14:08

IceRebel it's bloody heartbreaking.

It's not just women's rights going down the toilet, it's organisations, political parties, unions which generations of women have devoted their time, energy, creativity, intelligence and grit to building to make girl's and women's lives better, which are going down the pan with them.

Everything women have carved out has bern deliberately targeted and is now becoming male dominated, putting the wishes of males above the rights of females.

Women are now forced to start our own political parties, unions, new Girl Guides, new programmes and charities, etc, etc. We are forced to shelve all the work of generations of amazing women and start all over again. How many years is that going to take?

LangCleg · 23/09/2018 14:14

Elite social closure. All the leadership positions in these third sector orgs are recruited from a small pool of interconnected pomo-addled nitwits who graduated from elite universities. This is at the root of all the compromised orgs across the board: Amnesty, Oxfam, Save the Children, Guides, the YHA, etc ad infinitum.

These people actually believe in their own virtuousness.

Bowlofbabelfish · 23/09/2018 14:15

Look at the replies on the twitter feed ShockGrin

Unanimous. And angry.

placemats · 23/09/2018 14:16

Guides placed a mole into a closed social media site to 'watch' an adult person of concern to them because that person brought up safeguarding issues. Outrageous!

This action alone is a HUGE safeguarding issue when you consider many men pretend to be younger than they are to meet up with young people, mainly girls, for the purpose of raping them.

So pleased with the replies on that twitter feed. Both my daughters were in Brownies and Guides and they really enjoyed the social aspect of it. Such a sad day that it has come to this.

That intended slap in the face has spectacularly backfired.

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 23/09/2018 14:21

All the leadership positions in these third sector orgs are recruited from a small pool of interconnected pomo-addled nitwits who graduated from elite universities.

Then there needs to be a cultural change pronto, encouraging volunteers to feed into policies and encouraging them to take up paid positions and offering free training to do so in return for their service. Arrogant, entitled pomo nitwits not welcome.

SpyChase · 23/09/2018 14:28

This is shady. Sorry, but this doesn’t apply to every staff member, many ARE volunteers and PARENTS and many DO NOT agree with half the crap that’s going on. They very much do give a fuck but if they speak up? well... look what happens to the volunteers.

They have jobs to keep, and need to put food on the table. Just like you.

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 23/09/2018 14:32

This is absolutely disgusting. They could have met with her, consulted with Fair play for Women, spoken to parents - entered into some sort of dialogue as though they actally cared just a tiny bit about the girls, guiders and parents that they the organisation is all about - instead they decided to spy on a the leaders and made opaque policy decisions with the help of bloody Stonewall.

FermatsTheorem · 23/09/2018 14:33

That twitter feed is going well for them, isn't it?

Seriously, GG, if you're taking girls on camping trips with communal showers, and there's a chance that a teen girl, already embarrassed about her developing body, is being expected to shower with a teen with penis and balls, regardless of how the teen with penis and balls identifies, then you have a problem. The solution, btw, is to allow sex segregation (as permitted by the Equalities Act), not send the teen girl to the gulag for re-education.

And certainly not to sack the GG leaders who have given years, or in some case decades, of their lives to volunteering for you, who point out that the obvious solution is sex segregation.

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 23/09/2018 14:34

They very much do give a fuck but if they speak up? well... look what happens to the volunteers

Thank you for clarifying.

CrackpotsArePots · 23/09/2018 14:35

That's two Twitter threads at least this weekend absolutely brimming with people wanting to have their say - GG and Credit Suisse (Phil Bunce). Good

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 23/09/2018 14:38

It is terrible that those paid staff who are also volunteers/parents are not being supported up to management/ executive level.

placemats · 23/09/2018 14:44

What I really want to say I can't because I will probably face a ban.

But I do agree with SpyChase

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 23/09/2018 14:49

All the leadership positions in these third sector orgs are recruited from a small pool of interconnected pomo-addled nitwits who graduated from elite universities

The same pool who populate our political parties, thinktanks, lobbyists and media organisations.

IceRebel · 23/09/2018 14:53

I find it very worrying that people are afraid to speak out for fear of being banned or losing their jobs, I understand your worries but if adults refuse to speak out how can we encourage our girls to do the same?

placemats · 23/09/2018 15:03

I like this forum. I like Mumsnet. I do understand I should speak out.

However, I also want this thread to stay. It's important that people should see this.

I shall be writing to my MP about this as a further example of Safeguarding and the proposed GRC consultation. I keep adding to the letter. Perhaps I should warn her it's going to be in two parts because there are so many examples now.

IdaDown · 23/09/2018 15:06

It’s not just fellow ‘girl’ guides who can join but trans leaders.

More young impressionable girls being told what to do by a —wo—man.

Must be f* king great to be born with balls!
