He got 15 years. Is it enough?

Ah Donna you're like the flame to my moth.

I know I should stay away and stick to reading.

But tell me, I'm fascinated by your 'weighting system'

Arguably shes trans. But also a rapist. Two things going on. The rape history outweighs the trans argument for me.

Who gets to decide? You, cos you're trans? Women, cos, well they're women? Some random body?

Or maybe, to your question about Any ideas how we could reform the check system to protect children?

Maybe we could expand that to include women too, and say 'anyone who is male-bodied should be treated as such in both the safeguarding and the criminal justice system, given that all evidence points that this is the safest approach to take to protect both children and women?

Noqont · 18/09/2018 22:53

Two things going on. The rape history outweighs the trans argument for me.

Problem is there's men like this riding on the back of more genuine (for want of a better word) transwomen. What do you do about it? Because really, there's so many of them. How do we keep women and children safe unless we say no to all transwoman? What do you think?

LangCleg · 18/09/2018 22:54

Why is it relevant to introduce trans people to this discussion?

You're the one that introduced trans-related content. Thread title. Which is goady.

titchy · 18/09/2018 22:56

Why is it relevant to introduce trans people to this discussion?

Dunno Donna - why did you?

ArmchairAnnie · 18/09/2018 22:57

Disgraceful story. Shows what all these transphobes are really like... not that I'm one to generalise of course. I must write to my MP about this.

donquixotedelamancha · 18/09/2018 22:59

I’m sure if there were one, nobody could reasonably suggest that it meant all trans people were paedophiles. Except on Mumsnet that is.

No one could reasonably suggest that and anyone doing so on MN would get (at least) deleted and probably banned.

That rapist Karen White!? Should never have been in a women’s prison.

A view held quite strongly on here. I think most people would agree that prisons are an area where sex segregation is particularly important. There is a related thread here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3369292-The-Scottish-Prison-Service-has-not-assessed-the-impact-of-including-transwomen-in-the-female-estate-on-female-prisoners

RabbitsAreTasty · 18/09/2018 23:00

Maybe he is against changes to the law that let men into women's spaces because he knows exactly how abusers will seek and have sought to take advantage of such laws.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/09/2018 23:01

The case that's come up today is this one

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6179341/Outrage-transgender-child-groomer-legally-female-womens-jail.html

In a nutshell:
This is someone who has a GRC. 'Legally female' transgender paedophile. No reports of misbehaviour while in jail, but prisoners (some of whom are rape victims) are terrified of having a physically much stronger sex offender jailed with them.

So... where would you put this one?

LillyoftheCentralValley · 18/09/2018 23:02

First time poster, long time lurker. I'm an American & a politics wonk.

The senator wasn't a US senator. He's an Oklahoma state senator, so that's wrong for one. Entirely different body.

And funnily enough he's from a very Republican state where yelling loudly about "traditional values" ie, "keep women and gay folks along with minorities in their place" is a means to maintain power.

He's a trafficker who makes a profit trafficking, and voting for a bathroom bill is likely just a way to advance his political career.

MIdgebabe · 18/09/2018 23:02

So you are in fact agreeing that there are occasions when a transwomen should not be treated as a women?

There now, I can go to sleep happy

AngryAttackKittens · 18/09/2018 23:05

But that's transphobia, that is! Who is Donna to decide another person's gender for them?

Ereshkigal · 18/09/2018 23:06

So... where would you put this one?

Yes, I'd like to know whether Donna thinks a YOI with vulnerable teenage girls is the best place to put a paedophile with a history of grooming underage girls. Even if that paedophile is a GRC holding male. How does that "intersectional analysis" pan out?

BettyDuMonde · 18/09/2018 23:06

This U.K. paedophile got 14 years and 4 months for raping a girl under the age of 14 back in 2012.

Does this mean the US senator’s 15 year sentence was too harsh or that the UK rapist’s was too lenient?

Generalise away. I'm sure we all agree that being transphobic is bad. That said, this is FWR so perhaps the focus should be on protections for women and children? Like the OP's excellent point supporting sex segregation in prisons.

ABitCrapper · 18/09/2018 23:12

Has Donna gone through? Maybe she had a cake to ice....

pombear · 18/09/2018 23:12

Ah Midge sorry to disrupt your sleep pattern, but I fear Donna will need to police which ones are and aren't transwomen.

Donna - what is it that you're seeking? As we've interacted before, and I've seen your twitter (still going with the 'c*s' retweets and anger against women's groups) and what I perceive as your anger that women aren't 'allowing' you into female spaces.

With these types of threads are you:
a) trying to provoke a reaction for you to be able to post on twitter to evidence and validate your hatred for this site?

b) engage women and mobilise them to support 'trans rights' (I'm not sure which level of trans rights you want to mobilise, seeing as you're agreeing that people like 'Karen' Wright' may not fall into your definition of 'transwoman'. What's your definition of transwoman, and where do you draw the line, if any?

c) engage with women to enable you to feel like you're also a woman involved in this discussion, regardless that most are disagreeing with your point of view?

As you'll have seen from spending time on this forum, mostly we're all pretty calm and laid back in the debate, willing to engage, but don't capitulate just because we're women.

It must be incredibly frustrating for you to be posting on twitter how awful we are as a group here, but trying to engage. What's your ideal outcome in this discussion?

AngryAttackKittens · 18/09/2018 23:14

"Dear MP, I would like you to send Mumsnet to jail on account of a crime some bloke committed in America. What do you mean, that makes no sense, and also you don't know how to arrest a website?"

pombear · 18/09/2018 23:16

Waves to lily - always lovely to see a new poster braving it out to post on the radicalisation portal. Thanks for giving us additional context.

AspieAndProud · 18/09/2018 23:20

To my knowledge I haven't meat a trans paedophile. Or a trans rapist for that matter. How do I spot one form a non-paedophile and a non-rapist? Isn't the fact we can't tell them apart just by looking at them the whole issue we have about allowing men who identify as women into spaces meant for vulnerable women (women's shelters, prisons) or spaces in which women are more than usually vulnerable (changing rooms, etc)?

Oh look. It must be time to ice the boat or moor the cake.

AspieAndProud · 18/09/2018 23:35

I’ve never come across one. Why is it relevant to introduce trans people to this discussion? Why not Australians or plumbers?

Because the title of the thread you chose yourself refers to transphobia, not Australiaphobia or plumberphobia?

LillyoftheCentralValley · 18/09/2018 23:40

pombear, waves back. I've lurked because the radicalization portal has provided amazing intelligent commentary.

British politics isn't the same as US politics, of course, but politicians everywhere like to provide targets to hit at and distract.

AspieAndProud · 18/09/2018 23:41

Yes. Positions of trust. I think it’s the DBS system that’s meant to stop that happening in the U.K. all it seems to do is catch people with previous convictions.

Since a DBS check is a check against criminal records complaining that it only identifies people with criminal records is kind of stupid. However, if people can simply change their identity at will DBS checks won't be of much use at all.
