...for being critical of the gender critical?

The referendum was such a high but the repeal groups I was part of have gone on to become equality groups (I have no issue with equality but the issues they are fighting for seem in almost every case to be to the detriment of women)
It’s gone from such a high to such a low as it’s overwhelming how quickly people will dismiss you as transphobic for airing a genuine concern.

Wondered is there anyone in a similar situation or if you can point me in the direction of likeminded groups?

To go back to Aidan, he’s got very personal and insulting very quickly. He keeps telling me I’m angry, when I’m actually just thinking he’s an idiot.

Apparently I talk nonsense because I think violent TW shouldn’t be in female prisons.

I’m not particularly vocal on this issue and I’m pretty “liberal” compared to the likes of Posie and Glinner, but Jesus!

Juells · 19/09/2018 11:04

I've looked at his twitter account but can't see that exchange. Could you link it?

Think this should work

Sorry, I’m shit at both Twitter and linking.

That’s not my real name but it is my real face.

You should send him this. Vulnerable my arse. Why are men so keen to get men into women's spaces?

R0wantrees · 19/09/2018 11:37

There are a couple of significant threads which started just after the referendum result when some TRA groups indicated that they would lobby to not have 'women' in the policies and legislation which would follow the result:

June 2018 OP AngeloMysterioso wrote:
"Well, it’s happened... the trans activists have waded into the 8th amendment issue in Ireland
And are apparently pushing for the language in the repeal legislation to be “gender neutral”.

Quote from the article-

“Despite what some may believe, men can become pregnant too. There are tens of thousands of transgender men and non-binary people in Ireland who can conceive, and when speaking about reproductive healthcare, we must always be mindful of that.

“It’s imperative that newly written legislation uses inclusive language. By including this, trans men and non binary people will not hit legal barriers should they need to receive an abortion. By using the term pregnant people in new legislation, as well as protecting women, we are also protecting and respecting all gender identities should a crisis pregnancy occur.”

So. That’s nice. Thousands upon thousands of women have suffered, many have died, because of bullshit like the 8th amendment. And after fighting so hard for so fucking long and finally winning the right to bodily autonomy and reproductive rights, if the TAs get their way, we get to be referred to as pregnant people

I’m a bit of a TERF at the best of times but this is beyond fucking insulting. Savita Halappanavar wasn’t a pregnant person. Michelle Harte wasn’t a pregnant person. Sheila Hodges wasn’t a pregnant person.

If the TDs capitulate and let this happen I will be really pissed off."

Juells · 19/09/2018 11:41

Tens of thousands of transgender men and non-binary people in Ireland? Could there possibly be? If there were 100 transgender men I'd be surprised, but I'm willing to learn otherwise. Confused

dinosaurkisses · 19/09/2018 11:48

To be honest, I don’t feel up to the debate intellectually. I’m a very average person, I’m shit at debating- especially those who speak with confidence and aggression.

You guys are all so articulate and I admire some of the fearlessness we see on MN and from FPFW etc. I just find this whole debate so wrong, so depressing in its disregard for the safeguarding of women and girls, and I get so frustrated that I can’t help in any meaningful way.

Juells · 19/09/2018 11:52

I know exactly what you mean - it's shit when you know in the marrow of your bones that you're being fucked over and your rights are being ignored, but some smart arse who's more articulate decides he/she can get points for being virtuous at your expense. Angry

dinosaurkisses · 19/09/2018 11:53

YY @R0wan

I’ve yet to see an unreasonable transman, excepting that nonsensical tweet about breast cancer mastectomies taking priority over top surgery.

Compared to TW and non-binary, TM seem to be very live-and-let-live and just want to get on with living their lives without demanding concessions from everyone else.

I’ve yet to see a TM policing the language on this legislation.

Juells · 19/09/2018 11:54

That's what I loved about Posie's rant - she puts everything into perspective from a GC woman's POV. I'd have been so enraged at the inclusive nonsense those young women were spouting that I'd have been incoherent and spluttering.

Leland · 19/09/2018 12:12

I find drag acts so offensive on such a visceral level Sad And 'Panti' FFS. Hammering home the point that it's one set of genitals laughing at the other. He's parodying women - or an offensive stereotype of women.

God, yes. Good to have found you all. I'm Irish, but don't currently live in Ireland though considering heading back at some point in the next few years and following the situation at home with increasing horror.

R0wantrees · 19/09/2018 12:25

I’ve yet to see an unreasonable transman, excepting that nonsensical tweet about breast cancer mastectomies taking priority over top surgery.

There are some prominant transmen who are activists and have had a profound effect eg
Stephen Whittle, James Morton, Fox etc

There's a case in The Times today where a transman who has given birth is attempting to remove 'mother' from the birth certificate in order that they be recorded as father or parent having given birth.

TheBeastAwakens · 19/09/2018 12:29

Juells I'm afraid there will be many more 'transgender men' in the coming years if this ideology takes hold.

The thing is, as far as I know, we haven't had a case like Karen White here nor AGPs in women's toilets since the Gender Recognition Act was passed - unless they're not being reported on?

And it is terrible that women in Ireland are afraid to meet. How is this progress?

SophieofShepherdsBush · 19/09/2018 12:44

Following with interest. Living in Ireland. Lurk on feminism boards with increasing concern.

Mammysin · 19/09/2018 12:48

Wait! maryz was banned! Why? ( sorry for derailing)

Annasgirl · 19/09/2018 12:57

I'm here too - my group for repeal work was so obviously going to go on to Trans next that I just kept quiet and moved on.

I'm a feminist who is totally against all this new Gender Identity. However, I had a conversation with my sisters this weekend and all of them said I was wrong and that the Trans activists were rights!!!! Three of us have teenage DD and my two sisters saw nothing wrong with hormone blockers being given to 12 year olds!!!! When the middle of the road middle aged middle class women accept this, you know we have a mountain to climb as high as Everest. However, my two best friends agree with me - but no one else in RL.

Annasgirl · 19/09/2018 13:00

I was in a bar in Dublin on Saturday with Gender Neutral Loos!!!

I'm also in Dublin and would love to meet up.

I'm retaining in a career where this opinion is career suicide!

dinosaurkisses · 19/09/2018 13:01

@Mammysin My understanding (and I didn’t see the original thread) was that Maryz had a few comments deleted for breaking rules. She correctly argued that she hadn’t broken the talk guidelines and the posts were reinstated but MN denied any deletion had ever taken place. She continued to fight her case, mentioning gaslighting, and MN issued strikes which resulted in a ban.

I may not have got that all right, my reference is another poster who outlined what happened on a different thread.

I’ve been on here since I was a single, childless student 9 years ago- Maryz was a stalwart and offered hundreds of women support and advice on the relationship board over that time.

Leland · 19/09/2018 13:18

I had no idea Maryz was banned. Insofar as you 'know' anyone on an anonymous giant forum, I thought she was great, wherever I encountered her, from the adoption boards to Relationships.

Mammysin · 19/09/2018 13:31

Thanks so much dinosaurkisses - yes I've been on here for a long time too and really liked maryz's advice and take on things.

ThatEscalatedQuickly · 19/09/2018 16:13

Maybe we should start a separate Craicnet post to get MaryZ back? Assuming she wants to come back that is.

I know she's included in the post on this forum for recently banned GC posters but might be no harm to have a specific thread for her from other Irish posters.

Don't want to do this if she isn't interested in coming back though.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 19/09/2018 16:31

Maryz seemed to indicate that she wasn't interested in being somewhere she wasn't welcome. Can't blame her really.

dinosaurkisses · 19/09/2018 21:12

Seriously thinking about deleting Twitter after reading the comments from Irish, female Angry TRAs under the Amnesty statement referencing “pregnant people”.

They’re angrily jumping on any GC commentators and accusing them of being British TERFs, so many of them with Together for Yes profilers.

I normally stick to the UK commentaries, so it’s the first I’ve really seen of it. Gutted that this is the state of things.

Flywheel · 19/09/2018 22:51

Pleased to find this thread. Agree with other posters that the issue has gone largely unnoticed by most of the population. It just isn't on most people's radar. I have discussed it with friends and I've yet found anyone irl who sticks to the twaw mantra.

pachyderm · 20/09/2018 07:31

dinosaurkisses yes they did a big "terf purge" from the Repeal groups about two years ago, it was pretty ugly. Anyone who disagreed with their "pregnant people" nonsense were alt-right bigots apparently even the ones who have been involved in pro-choice activism for decades, or who campaigned for gay marriage. Oh and also craven cap-doffing slaves of the colonial Brits and their terf rhetoric. The stupidity was quite overwhelming.
