Accepting the term 'cis'?

MyBeloved · 12/09/2018 18:52

During a debate with a teenage male family member, I was told I had to accept I was a ciswoman, not a woman...whether I liked it or not! I was also told as a ciswoman I had priviages trans mtf could only dream of.

I feel angry. Should I accept this? Or shall I continue standing up for my adult human female rights?!

YY deep. That's what I meant I just wanted to stress how important this weasel word was.

Ekphrasis · 12/09/2018 20:45

It's just occurred tor that cis woman is an oxymoron as women can do and wear absolutely everything a man can. They only thing they can't do is ejaculate sperm (Samantha from SATC reliably educated me that women can ejaculate.)

Furx · 12/09/2018 20:46

Some animals are more equal than others

Ekphrasis · 12/09/2018 20:47

You could also meet "accept your cis" with "accept a TW is a TIM".

MyBeloved · 12/09/2018 20:49

Transwomen are supposed to be womenand women cannot be called women but have to be ciswomen? That is stealing the term women imo

This.

Was shocked at his insistence i HAD to accept it"whether i loked it or not"!

Hmmm now which of bewilderness's rules does that sound like...?

howlsmovingcastle84 · 12/09/2018 20:50

upstartcrow
"Or are some of us more equal than others".

All women are equal, but the women with penises are more equal than the others

(btw I'm watching Upstart Crow at the moment)

Stickerladiesoftheworldunite · 12/09/2018 20:50

I'll never accept it.
I'll not use pronouns to introduce myself either.

Why? Because I'm 45 and I don't have to. Call me the C* word call me T**
Call me what you want, but I won't respond unless it's my name.

Ereshkigal · 12/09/2018 20:52

"Cis" would at least have some logic if "trans" actually meant anything. Since it means a wide range of things, like "queer", it's not clear what "cis" is the antonym of. If I am a woman simply because I say I am (thanks Shon) then it necessarily follows that I am not "cis" if I simply say I am not. So best refrain from misgendering people. It is Literal Violence, you know.

Rebecca36 · 12/09/2018 20:52

I had never heard the word 'cis' until I came on here. Didn't realise it was so popular!

I'm happy with merely being a woman. If someone who isn't a woman wants to call themselves a woman, they're welcome but they don't have to prefix my gender with cis ...... or my sex or whatever it was last time I looked.

Ekphrasis · 12/09/2018 20:53

Like the logic eresh.

So I'm a woman cos I say so.

Women ARE women!

Ereshkigal · 12/09/2018 20:53

It's only popular with The Woke.

Ereshkigal · 12/09/2018 20:54

I logic better than 99% of TRAs.

littlbrowndog · 12/09/2018 20:58

Och it’s just a few idiots and no,wee guy would ever call me cis to me face

But but but it’s the dark people behind the idiots changing laws and policies

noeffingidea · 12/09/2018 21:01

I wouldn't accept this. I also wouldn't accept a teenager telling me what to do.

carbuncleonapigsposterior · 12/09/2018 21:04

SwedishEdith "Was there a cisman option?" I wish I knew that but friend told me she was so baffled by the "ciswoman" option, never having heard the phrase before,I suppose it didn't occur to her to notice whether there was one or not, I suspect not. I did ask my husband whether he was a cisman earlier tonight, his reply "I don't think so, pissed man occasionally!" He doesn't understand the whole cis thing anyway, foreign language to him.

Carbuncle - yeh, I'm a pissed off woman, sometimes pissed, but never cis!

PineappleSunrise · 12/09/2018 21:19

Aw, bless. He sounds like I did when I was a teenage indie/goth type sneering at the "suits" and "normals" (ie: people who'd had to tone their looks down for work). I managed to stay in a creative industry until my early 30s, but even I ended up getting a proper job and even wear formal office gear these days. (Fortunately it covers the piercings, which I still have.)

We've all been there. Every day I thank my lucky stars that my youthful politics, fashion, and sexual experimentations weren't recorded on teh Interwebs for all posterity.

Stickerladiesoftheworldunite · 12/09/2018 21:20

Is this the family member OP?

Accepting the term 'cis'?
BeUpStanding · 12/09/2018 21:24

Nope - I don't accept the label cis and ain't nobody can force me too. I also don't believe that people can change sex, and therefore anyone born with a penis is male - as a child they're a boy and as an adult they're a man. That can never change, regardless of what they think, feel or wear.

Twice I've been called 'cis', and both times I told the person to fuck off and never call me that again as I find it deeply offensive.

NotTerfNorCis · 12/09/2018 21:25

Women are women.

Transwomen are men who identify as women.

The word 'cis' isn't needed.

LynetteScavo · 12/09/2018 21:25

cis~' can fuck off
*
It means nothing, it's a made up word.
*
It's like being in an episode of Brass Eye.

Grin Hahahaha!

I am a just a woman, thank you.

calpop · 12/09/2018 21:26

NEVER

Flooffloof · 12/09/2018 21:27

So when talking about cis women's issues and trans' women's issues there has to be some kind of defining term

Hmmm let me see, err how's about "women" and "trans women" or "transmen"
