Accepting the term 'cis'?

MyBeloved · 12/09/2018 18:52

During a debate with a teenage male family member, I was told I had to accept I was a ciswoman, not a woman...whether I liked it or not! I was also told as a ciswoman I had priviages trans mtf could only dream of.

I feel angry. Should I accept this? Or shall I continue standing up for my adult human female rights?!

71 genders!

It really is getting like angels on the head of a pin (with apologies to the Medieval philosophers who intended that to be a mere illustration of what was actually a serious point about mathematics). Or epicycles within epicycles to prop up an earth-centric cosmology which no longer made any sense. Or arguments as to whether one could sign up to all 39 Articles or merely 38. Or which bits of the Apocrypha should be taken seriously and which not.

71 different bathroom types...

No - still two bathroom types.

Men and "Non-men".

That's all the penis people feel is needed in the world.

PerspicaciaTick · 16/09/2018 18:39

YeTalkShiteHen, gender has nothing to do with biology. It doesn't even have anything to do with sexuality. It seems to be purely about how you feel about yourself and how you want to be seen by the world.
It is amazing that there are only 71 genders, by rights there should be one for every person in the world. I, for example, identify as PerspicaciaTickgender...I am a scruffy middle-aged person who prefers to keep my own company and presents as being beyond caring.

YeTalkShiteHen · 16/09/2018 18:40

No wonder I’m confused!

71 genders.

Fail to see how asexual is a gender Hmm

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 16/09/2018 21:41

Hen, it gets better! genderfluidsupport.tumblr.com/gender

fantasmasgoria1 · 16/09/2018 21:48

I’m not cis I am a woman pure and simple. I don’t like the term.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 16/09/2018 21:50

I, Fekko. Get over it.

deepwatersolo · 16/09/2018 21:58

fantasmasgoria sorry to tell you, but ‚woman‘ is the one identity you cannot have. It is totally off-limits, except for the transwomenarewomen folks.

deepwatersolo · 16/09/2018 22:12

I am translongitude latitude fluid (in the days of old one might have called me an avid Traveller).

Passports and IDs of any sort are literal violence. Citizenships erase me and elections by the locals are literal murder.

And don‘t you dare shove me into any of your darn cislongitude cislatitude toilets. I need a toilet that fits my identity, an Italian Style one, where you stand, you bigot!

ShamelesslyPlacemarking · 17/09/2018 04:52

See also 'Transwomen are women' - the phrase 'Transmen are men' is used, but it's always an afterthought, never the battlecry.

And thIs despite transmen reportedly starting to significantly outnumber transwomen. It’s almost like transmen actually do experience typical submissive female social conditioning or something.

AngryAttackKittens · 17/09/2018 05:42

Amicagender: a gender that changes depending on which friend you’re with

Can we admit that these are children in the process of trying to figure out who they are and stop taking the whole thing so bloody seriously now? Kids assigning themselves and their friends "genders" like they're in an RPG among themselves on Tumblr - fine. Taking those "genders" seriously and basing social policy on that - completely absurd.

AngryAttackKittens · 17/09/2018 05:44

Like, where does out friend Zoe who's amicagender go to change for PE? With all the other girls. Where does Dave who's "Anesigender: feeling like a certain gender yet being more comfortable identifying with another" change? With the boys, even if he decides that he'd prefer to be called Naruto Starship Magic Elf.

KennDodd · 17/09/2018 07:45

Facebook missed out 'no gender, sex, female' I think we should write to them, let them know they've missed the blindingly obvious.

Ereshkigal · 17/09/2018 08:05

Yes I'm sure it was a genuine mistake on their part.

inquiquotiokixul · 17/09/2018 08:54

Thank you for that Tumblr link @EmpressAdultHumanFemale

Loads of the gender descriptions on that list are fairly good matches for how most intelligent gender-critical feminist women seem to experience the concept of gender. I expect we could all identify with at least half a dozen of the descriptions of:

Adamasgender
Agenderflux
Alexigender
Androgyne
Anongender
Antegender
Apagender
Apconsugender
Autigender
Autogender
Blurgender
Cassgender
Ceterofluid
Ceterogender
Collgender
Commogender
Egogender
Epicene
Exgender
Genderblank
Genderfuzz
Genderpunk
Genderqueer
Girlflux
Juxera
Libragender
Maverique
Neutrois
Nonbinary
Perigender
Quoigender

So there is a place for us in this strange new gender-obsessed landscape.

The whole sorry mess though is having the concepts of sex and gender mixed up with one another. Whilst it is marvellous and liberating to have this huge spectrum of genders and no obligation to fit in with any obsolete gender stereotypes for boring old "boys" and "girls" - the fact remains that what happens in private between an aroused teenager of any gender who happens to have a penis that is able to produce sperm and another teenager of any gender who happens to have a uteres and ovaries is going to be quite binary and is going to result in babies. We really do still need to be able to talk about biology even if the rainbow spectrum nature of gender becomes fully accepted. And unfortunately it will still happen that whichever gender label a person chooses for themselves, if they get pregnant they are likely to be at risk of losing their job and being discriminated against in numerous ways, and if we have no vocabulary to speak of such people as a class how can we fight for their rights?

YeTalkShiteHen · 17/09/2018 09:19

So if my sex is female (as in born female) and I am a woman, what gender am I? Female?

AngryAttackKittens · 17/09/2018 09:23

"Cis woman", Hen.

deepwatersolo · 17/09/2018 09:25

Hen, your gender is woman. It was imposed on you. Because your sex is female.
Not cis woman. Woman. As in: Adult human female. And I bet 'woman' is the one thing they say you cannot be in their world of myriad genders and full self identification.

AngryAttackKittens · 17/09/2018 09:31

Demi-vapor (term coined by @cotton-blossom-jellyfish): Continuously drifting to other genders, feeling spiritually transcendental when doing so while having a clear -slightly blurred- inner visual of your genders, transitions, and positive emotions. Tied to Demi-Smoke.

Demi-smoke (term coined by @cotton-blossom-jellyfish): A transcendental, spiritual gender roughly drifting to other genders that are unable to be foreseen and understood, shrouded in darkness within your inner visual. Elevating through mystery. Caused by a lack of inner interpretation and dark emotional states. Tied to Demi-Vapor.

Or what in English we usually call "pretentious". Very common in teenagers, will resolve itself with time in most cases.

This.

JackyHolyoake · 17/09/2018 09:43

This is a good article about the ridiculousness of all this current gender bunkum:

aeon.co/essays/the-idea-that-gender-is-a-spectrum-is-a-new-gender-prison

TheBrownPaperTeddy · 17/09/2018 10:24

So if transwomen are men and need to use male toilets, changing rooms, male prisons if necessary

What facilities do transmen use?

Should they be in women's prisons, toilets, changing rooms?

So you could have an XX person that has had surgery to give them a penis genuinely able to use female changing rooms because they are female genetically?

Or is surgery the cut off point?

I am so confused I think my head might explode.
