The term "men in dresses"

Trans-excluders like to say that they're absolutely fine with boys who don't fit in with gender stereotypes. And I, not one of you, am fine with children not fitting gender stereotypes. But I don't think that is true of all of you. Why is "man in a dress" used as an insult by so many of you?

Because the person is identifying add a woman and they are making the point that they choose to identify him differently. It is indeed deeply unpleasant considering that being a man and feeling psychologically uncomfortable enough to risk society's contempt by wearing a dress must be dreadful.

It's not an insult. But men in dresses who claim they are women are wrong, and harm women, so they get talked about disdainfully. 🤷🏼‍♀️

The only Public Service Announcement I'll make is to say that trans-excluders makes me think of draft excluders. (Thanks for the poster who came up with that.)

Reported you too cheese.

It's really quite 1984 the way you try to silence reasonable discussion. But you won't get away with it on a public forum.

I don't use it as an insult. I'm stating a fact or describing an empirical fact. There are 'men in dtesses' I've seen them.

Datun · 12/09/2018 08:32

Men in dresses isn't an insult, it's a description.

Men in dresses is a factual description, not an insult.

Maybe you want to think about why you find it insulting? Perhaps you might be less comfortable with gender non conformity than you think? Self reflection is always useful Smile

McTufty · 12/09/2018 08:36

I’m gender critical but I don’t like the term “men in dresses” because it is dismissive of those who are genuinely gender dysphoric.

"Men in dresses" is factual.

AspieAndProud · 12/09/2018 08:37

And I, not one of you, am fine with children not fitting gender stereotypes.

Except you do - otherwise you wouldn't think that a man who acts like a stereotypical woman is actually a woman.

LangCleg · 12/09/2018 08:39

Guess what? I didn't have any WBH! Scrambled egg on toast for me.
