This trans journalist had a chance encounter with a supporter of WPUK. Was this one of you lot?

Really thoughtful article - division into two camps without engaging with each other is not the answer.

Pinocchio got himself an apprenticeship at long last.

UndercoverGC · 11/09/2018 14:48

So, I've spent most of my adult life on the other side of this.
It has been eye-opening to see how much people will knowingly spread outright lies about 'TERFs'.
The thing with the supposed razor blades under the stickers, and how resistant that has been to correction, would make an excellent example if I was brave enough to post the screenshots.

The second part of the article really struck me. The author talks about how comfortable they feel in an all-trans space, being able to talk about issues which affect them because of their body and how society treats people with bodies like theirs.
That's all I want for myself, too. Being able to hold meetings with other people who 'get it', who understand all the ways that society makes it difficult to live in a female body.

Then the two paragraphs about the author's experience of being trans in public. You could swap in 'woman' for 'trans' and have exactly the same thing. Being a woman in public is always dangerous and can be terrifying. That's why we need women only spaces where we won't be attacked, especially when we are most vulnerable, especially hospitals and prisons and places where girls can work out who they are.

FermatsTheorem · 11/09/2018 14:55

"Was it one of you lot?"

Well, that's a new strategy, I have to admit. "Please doxx yourself to save TRAs the hassle of having to do it themselves."

AngryAttackKittens · 11/09/2018 14:59

And if it was you, could you post your full legal name, home and work address, any email addresses you use, and also a map showing the route you use to get to and from work? Thanks!

jasminemaya · 11/09/2018 15:10

Sheesh that's some paranoia!

Odd first post OP.

HollowTalk · 11/09/2018 15:15

Sometimes I wonder whether a poster on Twitter is someone from here, but to ask this question is a bit daft, OP. Is someone going to tell you, do you think? You don't appear to be a regular poster and you could be anyone, well-meaning or not.

HollowTalk · 11/09/2018 15:16

@UndercoverGC, that's exactly what I think. They should actually understand better than most why we want our own space.

UpstartCrow · 11/09/2018 15:19

We are supposed to stop and think, is this me. Is this how I come across.
Like Karen White would, in some other alternate reality.

sausagebap · 11/09/2018 15:21

why do all self-proclaimed non-binary people write in the style of a ‘and then the whole restaurant stood up and clapped’ chain FB post. does it come free with the hair dye?

AngryAttackKittens · 11/09/2018 15:21

Not a first post, OP has a thread about being a CF in Aibu too.

seafret · 11/09/2018 15:22

Lack of empathy though isn't it - a clinical/ pathological lack.

AngryAttackKittens · 11/09/2018 15:23

Snowflakeitis, sausage.

FloralBunting · 11/09/2018 15:25

No, this isn't a first post, but the OP has made it clear with previous posts that they sit in the TRA camp. So if they think a question like this would be seen as anything other than sinister fuckery, that is of course, disingenuous.

BareBelliedSneetch · 11/09/2018 15:25

I never tecognise my self in any anti-term rants. I appear to be hated all over the place, and yet I don’t hate trans people. I don’t fear them. I don’t wish them ill. I don’t deny their existence. I would, out of politeness, use their preferred pronouns.

But yet because I don’t believe you can actually become a woman they pin all the above on me.

GulagMilkMonitor · 11/09/2018 15:26

Was this one of you lot?

It’s almost like you think MN is the only place this conversation takes place. Every woman I know IRL is talking about this now. Every.single.one.
And we won’t stop.

I discussed it with my midwife this morning when she came. My mother in law told me everyone in her church group is talking about it and filling out the consultation. My cousin told someone in the supermarket loos.

Ereshkigal · 11/09/2018 15:26

That's all I want for myself, too. Being able to hold meetings with other people who 'get it', who understand all the ways that society makes it difficult to live in a female body.

This. This "thoughtful" person has absolutely zero self awareness or sense of irony.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/09/2018 15:27

Oh Ok. It didn't come up in the search I did (nor did any other).

AngryAttackKittens · 11/09/2018 15:27

I'm still confused about why Shon Faye thought that as a MN user I might own a handbag as ugly as the one Shon took to Pride.

They should actually understand better than most why we want our own space.

The trouble is that there's a whole new set, who see women's spaces as validation and entitlement, the old 'identifying as' rather than 'identifying with'

These people haven't stopped to think about other people - as seafret says, it's a lack of empathy. I can easily see why various groups might not want me around - even if I really would enjoy their company or want to get involved. I can understand that not everything is about me, that the over-70's swimming club might be happy like that, and not want me butting, or that the men's shed society is happier without me barrelling through the door to talk about brewing beer, AND THAT IS FINE.
