BBC article: 'Transgender inmate admits Wakefield jail sex offences'
"A transgender prisoner has admitted sexually assaulting inmates at a women's jail.

Karen White, 51, who was born male but now identifies as a woman, has pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual touching at New Hall Prison, Wakefield.

The offences took place between September and November last year. She has since been moved to a male prison.

Details emerged when White appeared at Leeds Crown Court to admit to a rape committed before she was jailed.

She previously admitted two further rape charges, which also happened outside prison.

White will be sentenced for all offences on 11 October."

Anyone who rapes using their own penis is a man. They are not a woman no matter what they like to think.

MsBeee · 06/09/2018 17:24

Ok the anger I feel about this, Jesus.

And this is exactly what Ann R has talked about. You know, like an actual prison officer who might actually have insight into this. Jesus fucking wept and did anyone ask those women their opinion was before putting this person in with them.

Fucking fuming. Ann R who was hounded out of Labour and replaced by LM

Labour, who is on the wrong side of history now.
Can someone put this on AIBU.

MipMipMip · 06/09/2018 17:26

I've stuck this on AIBU for awareness raising (I firmly believe the court of public opinion will be a deciding factor in this).

MsBeee · 06/09/2018 17:31

Oh yes and another thing

How is this crime recorded? what sex ? I don't even know if I've broken the rules now, but surely this question has to be asked.

YeTalkShiteHen · 06/09/2018 17:32

It’s a completely valid and really important question! This case is the prime example of why so many of us are so angry and against self ID.

20th November 2017 Anne Ruzylo's WPUK speech in full. In it she discusses her concerns for vulnerable women prisoners from her experienced position having worked in prisons.

NB a small part of this speech was deliberately cut, then misquoted and spread widely by some TRAs throughout the LGBT+ community on Twitter.
Anne Ruzylo makes a very qualified comment about who she regards as 'mysogynistic bastards' at the end of the speech

Yes I agree KatVonSweet , I'd liek to see the women sue the prison. It was entirely forseeable and reventable. Wilful negligence.

I wonder of any of the big human rights barristers will be queuing up to take their cases (as they seem to do for transwomen).

And yes it is a fucking insult to say that this was a sexual crime by a woman. The fucking cheek of it. Angry

longer article here:
(extract)
"Addressing the defendant, judge Christopher Batty said: "I want a full pre-sentence report made.

"I shall get a full sentence report for the issue of dangerness. I will see you on the 11th of October.

"We will then see the length the sentence will be. I am going to have you assessed to see if you are a danger.

"I may make conclusions from failure to comply."

Ms White only spoke as she was arraigned for the rape allegation.

She appeared in the dock wearing a striped top.

Ministry of Justice (MoJ) guidance says in the "great majority" of cases transgender prisoners are allowed to "experience the system" in the gender in which they identify.

The department said there were "strict safeguards" to prevent abuse of the way transgender prisoners are managed, and attempts to undermine the system were rare."

Can we please now stop with the 'identifies as' - You either is or you ain't.

Change it to 'wants to be' or 'pretends to be' - far more accurate.

Can we also ditch the term 'honour killing' too whilst we are about it?

littlbrowndog · 06/09/2018 18:01

It’s vile

Them women being forced to be locked up with a male rapist
A male rapist

Knicknackpaddyflak · 06/09/2018 18:07

And the male rapist's feelings about his inner self and identity took precedence.

Its unbelievable.

MsBeee · 06/09/2018 18:07

Thanks R0wan this is exactly the clip I was thinking about

MsBeee · 06/09/2018 18:09

Yes lets say it again loud and clear.

They locked up these women with a rapist.

seafret · 06/09/2018 18:09

"dangerness"??? please tell me that is a typo.

but this... "have you assessed to see if you are a danger"... if?? IF?? IF???

How much more evidence does the judge need FFS? White is a proven and convicted danger, and even of prison cannot or will not stop themsleves being a danger. Does it get any more dangerous than that?

seafret · 06/09/2018 18:10

sorry even in prison cannot...

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 06/09/2018 18:10

I wonder if it would be possible to create a fund for these women to access should they want to take legal action?

Viago · 06/09/2018 18:16

Saw this on Twitter, think it's relevant here -

"Surely the point of locking up sex offenders is to keep them away from women, not to make it so women can't escape."

Popchyk · 06/09/2018 18:17

I'd contribute to a fund to help those women.

But are any of us surprised that this person committed 3 rapes before this person was transferred to a women's prison?

I'm not.

There will of course be a campaign by the TRAs to get this person moved back to a women's prison. Because it is "inhumane" to keep this person in a men's prison.

And just on the BBC's woeful reporting.

Says "Karen White has admitted four counts of sexual touching at New Hall Prison, Wakefield".

Then immediately after says "Karen White, 51, who was born male but now identifies as a woman, has pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual touching at New Hall Prison, Wakefield".

Which is it?

SausageOnAFork · 06/09/2018 18:20

The only possible good that will come of this is that women might just get listened to.
DH mentioned this news to me a I lost my shit. I can’t get him to understand though how low an opinion the law makers etc of this country have of women. We are at the bottom of the pile.

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 06/09/2018 18:21

I've worked with numerous women over the years who have been to prison or are in prison. All of them vulnerable. Many been subjected to sexual and physical abuse during childhood and adulthood. Many have poor mental health. Many have some degree of learning disability. Very many have lost their children, often through relationships with violent and abusive men. Despite some veneer of 'hardness', they remain extremely emotionally fragile. Any professional who comes into contact with this population knows this without any degree of doubt.

What is happening to these women with gender ID is nothing less than a public disgrace. I sincerely hope that these women seek legal advice with a view to taking action against the authorities and professionals who made this situation possible.

Popchyk · 06/09/2018 18:23

To be fair to the BBC though, they were the first to cover this.

Stark contrast to their paralysis over the David Challenor conviction.

seafret · 06/09/2018 18:37

I would also contribute. I hope someone connected to these women reads these threads.

VickyEadie · 06/09/2018 18:42

Have the 'It never happens' mob on Twitter worked out their excuses yet?

Popchyk · 06/09/2018 18:46

Just so I understand this.

This guy has now pleaded guilty to 3 rapes, which happened outside of prison.

And that is IN ADDITION to whatever he was in jail for in the first place.

Which, I'm going to guess, was rape or sexual assault of some kind.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 06/09/2018 18:50

What’s “inhumane” is putting a rapist in amongst women incarcerated in prison and incapable of going anywhere, like a fox into a bloody henhouse Angry
Whoever decided to carry out a risk assessment in this situation needs to be removed from their position with immediate effect.
And that goes double for whatever fuckwit decided the risk was negligible.
The whole thing really beggars belief 😲
