It's a private prosecution by an activist who wasn't at the talk but watched it online. CPS declined to take the complaint further but this individual decided to take out a private action.

Everyone should have rights, equality and freedom of course and there shouldn't be a but! I've really had enough of these guys now - there hatred and targeting of women is wanton and relentless.

Gooliana 'Mark' Kendal is a particularly unpleasant TRA, a twitter feed of constant distortions. (Modus operandi much like this case, take a comment, screenshot it, distort it wildly out of context and allege that it is proof that evil terfs want to attack/abuse TRAs)

The attempt is to construct a completely fabricated narrative whereby terfs pose some sort of existential threat to transpeople.

This private prosecution is a part of that. I am not a lawyer but am curious if the DPP or whoever can have it discontinued on the basis that Kendal is a nasty bully.

This "not a feminist" is up for contributing some euros to her legal fund if there is one.

There is talk on Twitter of a crowd funder for her, we really need to get behind her financially on this. It really does feel like persecution, a modern version of a witch hunt.

However it may get a lot of negative publicity which could help show up this shitshow for what it is!

I'm in. If somebody can post the link when it's up I'd be grateful. I owe her. I'd never come across an unapologetically strong woman before. She created a model in my head to aim for. I didn't get anything like up to the level of the template she made for me. But I got further than I would have done, if she had never crossed my orbit.

Yes, financial support is a great idea. I've never met Bellos just read a couple of books and seen some of the debates on tv (when the likes of the beeb weren't too terrified to invite her on) I'll stand outside that courtroom alone if I have to. I'm not a feminist (haven't put in any of the work) but this is bullying, typical masculine coercive behaviour!

I think that underlines how her reach goes beyond the confines of any single "tribe". I'm willing to bet that women of all sorts of walks of life, all kinds of ideas, including some that don't mesh with Linda's own ideas, will get behind her. She has had a lot more impact, on a lot more people in my generation, than she probably realises.

And I think that is probably a really good thing given that the people who have been her mates/comrades in arms for like, forever, are cowering behind TWAW and leaving her to hang out to dry.

Barrister DH says that the CPS can still throw out private prosecutions if they see no merit in them (or the judge can). According to him 'most private prosecutions are brought forward by crazy people so they are used to throwing them out' - this was before I acquainted him with the facts of this case :-) The person bringing the prosecution could also find themselves at risk of being found guilty of malicious prosecution. Hopefully sense will prevail and the CPS will intervene.

Yes the CPS will only go ahead with a case if there’s a reasonable chance of a conviction and it’s in the public interest, this case would seem not to fulfil either of those criteria.

Does anyone even know what the 'delightful' Miss Kendal looks like? I can't imagine they would turn up in court. They just want to hide behind a screen tapping away and thinking they are so very clever.

Well, this certainly fits the bill. The thing is, you only have to look at the unedited version of the video to know that the prosecution is based on a nonsense. So it's just an attempt to harass and intimidate Linda, and to cause her financial stress.

@ CesiraAndEnrico. Yes. I honestly didn't realise that she had a place in my life until late last year when these activists were shutting her out of various debates! I'm just one of those women used to being called 'feminist' for discussing equal pay or simply mentioning the word 'divorce'!

I hope more women take a closer look at the issues before it's too late.
