They may end up softballing this and appointing someone who is "independent" only in name.

SturdyEarmuffs · 28/08/2018 17:16

Procrastinator1 - WTF? Is AC straight up trolling now? You would think that, in light of the current situation they find themselves in, a no comment & definitely no retweeting GG comments on safeguarding issues would be the best option.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 28/08/2018 17:23

There needs to be a trans party (since the only interests certain folks seem to promote are trans issues anyway).

ArcheryAnnie · 28/08/2018 17:23

Sturdy everything in Aimee's political life has instructed Aimee that Aimee is teflon-coated, and there is no controlling behaviour, abusive language, or dismissal of women, that Aimee can't get away with. This would be reinforced by Aimee seeing how other transactivists get away with statements and behaviour that would have anyone else removed from office. So there's no point in expecting Aimee to understand restraint now, and the sooner the Green Party realise this, the better.

TwistedStitch · 28/08/2018 17:28

Surely AC is just drawing more people's attention to the GG policy- I don't think that is going to have the effect they think. Most people will be horrified by it.

thecatfromjapan · 28/08/2018 17:30

Janice Turner's not letting this drop is she? (Re. AC, Stonewall & the controversial changes to Girl Guides & Safeguarding.)

thecatfromjapan · 28/08/2018 17:31

(Sorry, that was an aside. I think I love Janice.)

placemats · 28/08/2018 17:35

The horrific nature of this case has poisonous tentacles that reach out beyond the Green Party and it isn't going away.

placemats · 28/08/2018 17:37

We're keeping in mind the guidelines provided by the CPS

In general or with regard to this case specifically?

SturdyEarmuffs · 28/08/2018 17:39

This is (I hope) the unraveling that GG is due - they've been warned, they've dismissed Helen Watts (and are even investigating her) and they've also confirmed to queries on their stance that they believe the EA2010 prevents them from enacting safeguarding policies when it comes to both trans leaders and trans children.

In light of the "advice" they've taken from "expert organisations in the field" it's not going to be their former CEO who carries the can on this, is it?

RedToothBrush · 28/08/2018 17:40

That whole thread prior to the tweet the one Aimee retweeted by the Girl Guides needs to be seen to be believed.

Janice Turner @ VictoriaPeckham
So a leading ⁦*@stonewalluk⁩ and ⁦*@TheGreenParty⁩ trans activist, who is campaigning for an end to protected women’s spaces, KNOWINGLY employed a man charged with (and now jailed for) child torture and paedophilic rape as her election agent.

Whilst @GreenPartyAimee was campaigning for natal men who self-ID as women to have access to Girl Guide camps, her father was raping 10-yr-old girls whilst dressed as a little girl. This is a dark, tragic story which should make us think very hard.

Helen @ MsHelenWatts
Yes. Questions need to be asked about the extent to which an individual, who is patently unqualified to advise on safe guarding policy, was able to influence organisations like my own Girlguiding, either directly or indirectly through other groups.

THEN Girl Guides replied:

Girlguiding @ girlguiding
^The current policy and guidelines on our Equality and Diversity policy were developed based on feedback and queries from members, advice from expert organisations in the field and to ensure we comply with the requirements of the Equality Act 2010. Info:
www.girlguiding.org.uk/making-guiding-happen/running-your-unit/including-all/equality-diversity-and-inclusion/equality-act-2010/

Frankly I don't read that as Aimee trolling. I read it as Girl Guides trolling and deliberately not answering the question / deflecting blame / missing the point.

I'm far more bothered by the reply girlguiding gave than Aimee's retweet tbh.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 28/08/2018 17:42

A huge amount of members on the gp forum are appalled at the way this has been handled by the party, and are actively questioning why Aimee has not been suspended from the party. In response to these very valid points, someone from the executive committee (or whatever it is called) came on and accused the members of being transphobic.

It is beyond a joke.

OrchidInTheSun · 28/08/2018 17:45

Coventry Pride confirm that they were aware of charges against Challenor Sr in 2016 and removed him as a volunteer.

There is no way that Aimee did not know

Just seen this from Coventry pride

Crosspost

Shock Thomas

Wanderabout · 28/08/2018 17:48

That is a great statement by Coventry Pride. They are obviously on it with safeguarding. It also sounds like it was written by a human.

PyeWackets · 28/08/2018 17:49

Sorry if this has already been posted.

Just saw this statement from Coventry Pride on Twitter

28 AUG 2018
A statement from the Trustees of Coventry Pride

We, the trustees of Coventry Pride, were deeply shocked to learn of the actions of Mr David Challenor as concluded by the court. The safety and welfare of children in our society must be paramount. May we offer our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the child and family.

Mr Challenor volunteered for the Charity in 2015 and 2016 he assisted with event set up and take down, and designing some posters and leaflets. The Trustees were made aware of criminal proceedings being taken against Mr Challenor in November 2016. A directive was issued to those responsible for volunteer recruitment that Mr Challenor was not to be accepted as a volunteer at the Charity’s events and if he attended public events organised by the Charity he was monitored by the trustees. Mr Challenor no longer has any links with the Charity.

PyeWackets · 28/08/2018 17:50

link

So they seem to have acted in a responsible manner, unlike others.

thecatfromjapan · 28/08/2018 17:50

I'm glad Janice Turner is taking this. Down the Stonewall and GG route.

Totally agree, Red - but AC is surely way off-course re-tweeting that. There again, I guess she sees it as a ringing endorsement of her work by the GG and something of a character testimony.

I hope she keeps going with this - it's going to give the GG more publicity over their policy and it's association with AC. Only a good thing, IMO.

Yes, I think the GP are going to have quite the internal discussion over this.

PyeWackets · 28/08/2018 17:52

Ooooo cross post! Blush

SturdyEarmuffs · 28/08/2018 17:52

That statement from Coventry pride is pretty damning. And when you put it alongside this from twitter it's really not looking good at all for AC.

MorbidMuch · 28/08/2018 17:52

That Girlguiding response has been put as a stock response to recent tweets. They've cut and pasted it several times today. I don't know if anyone from GGUK has read the full threads that they have posted on. It's not a reassuring response from them!
