You should be able to listen again here. 9am. There's a discussion going on now.

Talking about the penis stickers, and single sex spaces.

The trans-activist they on says that we should make space for all kinds of women: including "angry" women.

Yes, now there are women, angry women and trans women.

I was listening and almost stood up in the office and cheered! Julia Long was fabulous. She was very brave - referred to the transactivist as 'he', and was explicit that transwomen are actually male people an and have no business in women only spaces. Nick Ferrari backed her completely and he's possibly the world's most unlikely feminist ally! The trans activist was absolutely awful - nasty, sneering, talking about 'angry women' and waffling on different types of women.

Callers so far seem fully gender critical. Good stuff. More of this to come hopefully....

Stickerladiesoftheworldunite · 21/08/2018 09:32

Thanks - will relisten. Just caught the end of a phone in (both male)

Melamin · 21/08/2018 09:34

I think Vicky had more of a problem with 'angry women' - never knew they were a 'type'. LOL

gendercritter · 21/08/2018 09:37

Brilliant, thank you.

And aren't most women angry? Angry about shitty men and shitty relationships and the injustices we face sometimes on a daily basis.

I know I am!

Melamin · 21/08/2018 09:37

Do you really get 'types' of women? I thought there were only women. Of course if you are unfortunate to read something like Ricky T*'s autobiography, there are the 'lovely' types of women who will give him a no strings quickie in the ally round the back of the WMC

Gileswithachainsaw · 21/08/2018 09:44

The callers were interesting.

Men in a girls locker room is ok cos there would be an entire coaching team there and they wouldn't be getting changed Hmm

You can just he taken off a case? How mant peike have families around. Many are widowed and the family hardly ever see them due to work etc

Dementia patients can he sexually inappropriate and care has to be given by same sex carers for everyone's safety and dignity.

FruitOnAPlatter · 21/08/2018 09:45

Do you really get 'types' of women

Thats what the TRAs keep pushing... it's nonsense though - there are just women.

A white woman and a black woman are not different types of women - they're both women, women with different colour skin.

People without the use of their legs aren't a different type of person, they are people, without the use of their legs.

It's offensive to suggest that women are now a subtype of women, that woman now means an entirely different group of people.

It's downright criminal to try to enforce that change in meaning, but then keep all laws using the word the same so that they no-longer mean what they used to, and no longer serve the purpose they were intended for.

ToeToToe · 21/08/2018 09:49

This categorisation of types of women is a favourite argument of trans-activists. As though women were an umbrella term meaning non-men.

So (according to TAs) we have black women, disabled women, infertile women, lesbian women, and now (thank you, Vicky) now angry women. All so that penis-bearers can call themselves women if they like, (new category: "women with penises") and come in the ladies with us.

No. We are women, and women don't have penises. Those born with penises are not women.

'Do you really get 'types' of women?'

You do if you're a raving misogynist. Nice types, cute types, sexy types, angry types, slaggy types........ Hmm

'It's offensive to suggest that women are now a subtype of women'

Too bloody right

LangCleg · 21/08/2018 09:51

Exactly this.

arranfan · 21/08/2018 09:52

Again, as per Alex Drummond - why is there no interest in widening the bandwidth of what it means to be a man rather than insisting on 'widening' that of women? This Transwoman kept her beard and couldn't be happier

happydappy2 · 21/08/2018 09:53

The only people who can become women are girls.

ellaoldie · 21/08/2018 10:01

Claiming to be a male woman opens up access to speaking roles,,advisory positions, media appearances etc.as well as female spaces and opportunities designed to boost female representation
Identifying as a feminine man attracts none of those things.
I'm surprised more men aren't following "Grrl Alex"'s example as there appears to be no downside.

YesSirCowBoy · 21/08/2018 10:01

Is this angry woman thing coming from the transgender person training all MH workers, they have a subset for angry Northern women.

RhythmStix · 21/08/2018 10:04

I also heard the phone in and thought Julia was great - unlike the faltering, shambolic offerings from Vicky leigh (sp?) who quite honestly sounded like someone who had just been chucked out at closing time. Pathetic. 'Angry' women? Hmm

R0wantrees · 21/08/2018 10:09

There's a speech here by Dr Julia Long made recently at an event held in London, Tuesday 22 May 2018.

Organised by Lesbian Rights Alliance.

Also speeches by Linda Bellos, Dovile Lapinskaite, Lynne Harne & Anne Ruzylo: YouTube

In a world where women (50% + of the population) are underrepresented in so many areas, it is an open goal.

safetycomes1st · 21/08/2018 10:11

This is dangerous. I have been accosted twice in toilets by a man. Once when I was 10 and again when I was 25. Although I didn't realise it at the time people responses - shouting, chasing the man, checking I was ok were validating that I had been in danger and was right to be terrified. Now if men are allowed in women's toilets then the response could be "it's no big deal..just stop making a fuss and get on with it.."

R0wantrees · 21/08/2018 10:14

I think the 'angry wimmin' calls to an old stereotype eg Viz's Milly Tant

fidgetspinner555 · 21/08/2018 10:15

Where in the show was Julia speaking? I can't find it.

MsMcWoodle · 21/08/2018 10:17

Our gym teacher was in the shower room constantly. She would check that we all had showers - in the massive open shower with no curtains. There might be a bit more dignity today, but I still wouldn't want a coach who was a biological man in the changing rooms.
Julia was fantastic. So were most of the callers. Nice to see men 'getting it'.

Melamin · 21/08/2018 10:17

After the 9am news

That was how they were teaching the young orang-utans to be scared of snakes on orangutan school, the other day Grin. It is effective Grin Maybe that is what they don't like Hmm

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 21/08/2018 10:20

Placemarking to listen to this later.

Thanks!

ToeToToe · 21/08/2018 10:22

Absolutely, safeycomes1st Thanks

This is a safety, privacy and dignity issue. Women are at risk from men, we know this from our own experiences, growing up, going out - we all know it. It's been a very basic right of ours for my whole life - up until the time when penis-bearers decided they should be allowed in too.

Single sex spaces are the single most secure way to ensure women's safety in toilets, changing rooms, hospital wards etc.
