Examples of Silencing in trans debate?

Mamaryllis · 20/08/2018 14:38

Jonny Best is on twitter looking for specific examples of silencing that has occurred in line with Stonewall’s trans umbrella definition - is there a good thread we can link him to? If anyone has time to provide examples, he’s putting a piece together right now...

Yes it was Venice who was questioned - transcript here m.facebook.com/DRradfem/posts/2108975092654757 - I believe Venice hosts an unreleased charity clothes swap which was also closed down by trans activists.

We could even talk about the MN intern who breached the law.

Oh and the Dr Adrian Harrop threads are packed full of women being told to STFU.

UndercoverGC · 20/08/2018 15:09

Look up 'no cis men' to see that however hard we try to use 'inclusive' language, spaces where trans people and NB people are specifically welcomed, it is literally impossible to have women only space without getting told to 'die cis scum'. Even if you bend over backwards to go along with 'trans women are women', even if you genuinely /believe/ that trans women are women, then aren't allowed to have women only space.
This has been a thing for years on the radical left, and like gender neutral toilets, it is being increasingly enforced everywhere.
The outcome is that I cannot have a group of people who share the experience of living in a female body under patriarchy.
I can't even have a group which discusses the experiences of 'cis and trans women' under patriarchy, because organising as women excludes various gender identities who might look like men, and this is seen as oppressive and would make me a valid target for 'kill all TERFS'. Even if all I wanted to do was discuss the things 'cis and trans women' have in common, which would leave out a lot of the problems I have experienced from being born female.
There are no more women only spaces on the radical left, not for any definition of woman. We aren't allowed to gather as women, for any definition of women, because it excludes men.
I'm talking as someone who used to believe absolutely in all of it, and who has known various leaders of trans organisations since they began to be politically active.
I can't do this any more.
I need women only space.
I need to be able to organise around oppression based on my female body, with people like me.
Trans women can do this. Nobody bats an eyelid at trans women having meetings just for them.
I want that for me, too.
Sorry that I cannot be more specific without outing myself.

The silencing of women on the subject is so underhanded. I have not engaged in the debate on Twitter, other than 'liking' tweets from both sides of the debate, for later reading. The mere fact that I have liked gender critical tweets has seen me added to the 't**f blocker' list. So now you don't even need to engage to be labelled transphobic.

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 20/08/2018 15:20

The mere fact that I have liked gender critical tweets has seen me added to the 'tf blocker' list.

This is a really good point.
I have a twitter account which is no way related to feminism (it is a work related account) on which I “liked” one single tweet that (politely) opposed trans women in female prisons and I was instantly added to a block list.

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 20/08/2018 15:33

Could someone on Twitter maybe forward him this thread?

Madigan, Wes Streeting and Angela Raynor (failed in her safeguarding brief in Education) in Labour against trans phobia attacking Jennifer James legal challenge supporters and doxxing them, using labour data (possibly bought from Emma's diary) even non Labour members.

TERFisaslur Maria was forced to call her attacker female pronouns in court, judge refused her compensation for not doing so. Those outside court wore black masks, brough dogs and had boots then called the police to protect them from two feminists I guess both about sixty years old.

What's the name of the academic who wasn't allowed to research detransition? Cambridge wasn't it?

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 20/08/2018 15:52

Who was it that wanted to study detransitioning but was denied?

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 20/08/2018 15:52

PyeWackets · 20/08/2018 15:54

Look at how Heather Brunskell-Evans was treated by the so called Womans Equality Party.

PyeWackets · 20/08/2018 16:04

Was it Women's place who were kicked off Facebook only to be reinstated several days later? Oh, and who was it that raised money for their information pack that had their funding appeal closed down, only to be reopened later. Look at the stress women are put through for attending meetings to discuss their rights, blocked from entering the building, taunted and abused.

Who was it that was followed to a picket line and abused?

RedHairWoman · 20/08/2018 16:08

Women in Cambridge were silenced within days of the Equality Act of 2010 becoming law. Sarah Brown a Liberal democrat (Then a Cllr) who co-runs the Liberal Democrats LGBT twitter account, removed sex as a protected characteristic within days.

I understand then went around other local authorities and encouraged them to do the same, so females lost out from the start.

WarmWishes · 20/08/2018 16:09

Does Jess Bradley's instruction of libel lawyers Carter Ruck which stopped much reporting by most apart from Daily Mail, count?

kesstrel · 20/08/2018 16:09

There was a thread a while back with lots of women talking about being too afraid of being doxxed and losing their jobs to voice their opinions.

RedHairWoman · 20/08/2018 16:13

Lily madigan of (Labour against Trans phobia, who said cruel things about re-educating Muslim women and black women and bullied a CLP into resignation), the 20 yo women's officer with male genitals supported Sarah Brown of the Liberal Democrats over Labour Ann (who resigned when Cambridge refused to give sex a protected characteristic as per the Law). Lily had the "table" discussed on LBC.

WarmWishes · 20/08/2018 16:15

Also I saw screenshotted tweets regarding Dr Selena Todd, which appeared to be asking equalities committees to think twice before having her on board. I am totally paranoid about wording things incorrectly but if you look at @selina_todd 's timeline & scroll down a little bit, you'll see it there.
