Examples of Silencing in trans debate?

Jonny Best is on twitter looking for specific examples of silencing that has occurred in line with Stonewall’s trans umbrella definition - is there a good thread we can link him to? If anyone has time to provide examples, he’s putting a piece together right now...

James Caspian had his research proposal - about detransitioning women - disallowed by Bath Spa on the basis it was politically incorrect, basically.

Owen Jones does not like women speaking, he is one of many men on Twitter that encourage a pile on of females.

Owen tweeted that Labour leadership are trolling feminists.

The mere fact that I have liked gender critical tweets has seen me added to the 'tf blocker' list.

This is a really good point. I have a twitter account which is no way related to feminism (it is a work related account) on which I “liked” one single tweet that (politely) opposed trans women in female prisons and I was instantly added to a block list.

Yep, me too. I was astonished to find myself blocked on Twitter by a range of people with whom I'd never engaged and realised it was because threads were monitored and if I'd liked one, I got blocklisted.

SirVixofVixHall · 20/08/2018 16:23

I am also on block lists. A certain “women’s officer” published a block list with me on it, since then I find I’m blocked by all sorts of people who I’ve never interacted with. Someone on here mentioned being blocked by the students LGBT etc thing, sure enough I am blocked by them too, I’ve never even glanced at their tweets.
I’ve liked GC tweets and I follow feminists like Magdalen and Julie Bindel. That seems to be why I’m blocked.
I went to a women’s place meeting and as our venue refused to host us at the last minute, I was racing around town with my young daughter, very stressful and scary going into the alternative venue with police outside. If I had been alone I might have gone home again. I had dd with me so wanted to show her that we would not be intimidated like this. I really feel this is a form of terrorism against women.

RedHairWoman · 20/08/2018 16:29

Since when have incidents like Speakers corner and the bomb making equipment been lawful acts? This whole debate is political.

Terrorism - unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.

I've been very careful on my personal Twitter account not to like anything GC related and I'm on it anyway. I think it's because I've followed Women's Place.
I find it horrifying that my name and others are on a public list claiming that we're hateful and trans phobic ...purely for following Twitter accounts.
I've also seen far too many women threatened, and more than one TRA account post screenshots of FB accounts of women and their children along with their names.
I want to speak up publicly but I'm a single parent and my employer works with well-known corporate clients. I've seen TRAs mob employers. I think my boss would stand up for me but I don't want to bring that kind of harassment down on me or my child.
I think a lot of women feel the same way. It stops so many of us from speaking. I hate it.

Floisme · 20/08/2018 16:43

Has anyone mentioned Morgane Oger? If I recall correctly, the last time I saw this person they were demanding to know the identity of a woman who had the temerity to hold a placard on a march. And then as I understand it, campaigning to have a rape crisis centre closed down and contemplating running for Mayor.

IAmOnAMission · 20/08/2018 16:50

Momentum took over my CLP. The TRA female youth officer is in a relationship with a pimp. It is not safe to have non Momentum opinions locally.

Oldstyle · 20/08/2018 16:52

This is the theory rather than the practice but it does suggest we are facing a deliberate and well organised approach to silencing women. Think I might have just peaked in to a conspiracy theorist. Best I go and have a nice cup of tea and a biscuit.

MsMcWoodle · 20/08/2018 17:03

Terfblocker in itself is a biggie. Didn't Aimee Challoner boast that there were 50,000 people on it?
All the trying to stop meetings. Masked thugs on the Jam Jar Stairs.

MsMcWoodle · 20/08/2018 17:05

GC women being shadowbanned on Twitter.

MsMcWoodle · 20/08/2018 17:07

Mumsnet! The whole organised reporting/brigading/derailing crap.

Same here. That or following the wrong people. It's like they're sending out a message that even the faintest hint of dissent makes you an unperson.

It's ok though. All you have to do to read accounts you're blocked from is to open a browser where you aren't logged in, Google the account name and follow the link.

PyeWackets · 20/08/2018 17:30

The loss of lesbian spaces, Michfest etc.

Doyenne · 20/08/2018 17:55

I'm on terfblocker on a professional account, I am very careful but I clearly follow people I'm not allowed to Hmm.

I've made the odd polite but negative comment about Corbyns handling (or not) of politics & women's issues (Nothing controversial, I dare not mention my opposition to self-Id) and there is always a pile-on by his twitter attack dogs. I make similar critical comments about conservatives and whilst they can be nasty they are amateurs in silencing women compared to Labour (thankfully).

I have very few followers visible so not someone Labour silencers should even bother with.

I hate that I am silenced like this but I will no longer state my view publicly out of fear

Charliethefeminist · 20/08/2018 18:04

Lady liz barker's threat to kick people out of a debate on trans legal future. Nic Williams has the transcript. In fact Nic Williams generally - she has written about her own silencing by the #nodebate tactic which is deployed by TRA. Johnny she is @asknic on Twitter, Fair Play for Women. This is the insidious bullying of media outlets by the threat to mass report and complain. It's less visible, almost invisible, but extremely effective.

Charliethefeminist · 20/08/2018 18:06

I hope he is across all the threats to murder, dismember, rape, dox etc. They keep women anonymous on social media.

Ereshkigal · 20/08/2018 18:10

I love you Morelike Smile

FlippinFumin · 20/08/2018 18:16

What about the trans widows thread? And also the open letter from the victims of domestic abuse from today? The fact that those who run their refuges cannot speak out for fear of losing funding?

Charliethefeminist · 20/08/2018 18:18

Lisa from Deptford. The thread she did. The fact that women's charities can't speak up for fear of losing funding.

Charliethefeminist · 20/08/2018 18:19

You said that, why did I repeat it.

The silencing of detransitioners.

Destinysdaughter · 20/08/2018 18:20

I was suspended by Twitter for saying a particular man was in fact, a man. And then my Twitter account was hacked!

Charliethefeminist · 20/08/2018 18:21

The jam Jar protests, the men in Black masks on the stairs. The Brighton and Cardiff protests where the demonstrators forced WPUK to find new venues at short notice. Edinburgh where they banged pans all nightso that speakers couldn't be heard.

Charliethefeminist · 20/08/2018 18:23

Yes I was suspended for saying someone else was suspended for saying someone was a man.
