Julie Burchill on Brighton transpride and nonbinary affectation

Will post link below as can't remember how to do it when starting threads. I heard she was at the recent Women's Place event in Brighton, she mentions it but wrote this before the event. Would be interesting to hear what she thought of that too. I love a bit of Julie Burchill. Totally agree with her.

Loved this article

MyLifeInTheSunshine · 04/08/2018 12:54

Thanks for sharing. I’ve always had a soft spot for Julie. Glad she can see sense on this issue!

MorrisZapp · 04/08/2018 12:57

This piece is just outrageously brilliant. She goes too far, of course. But bloody hell, nailing it down again and again and again.

She knows how to write and she dares to actually think too.

Be more Julie!

OrchidInTheSun · 04/08/2018 13:01

Fabulous!

Ereshkigal · 04/08/2018 13:07

That was so good to read. I love Julie's way with words.

TheCountryGirl · 04/08/2018 13:07

Yes why ARE the non binary (?) lot so vicious?

littlbrowndog · 04/08/2018 13:19

“All about men and money “

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 04/08/2018 13:28

Brilliant.
'Small but perfectly informed' - she has the best turn of phrase.
And a massive cheer to her final point about the fringe being about what you can DO not merely what you are.

annandale · 04/08/2018 13:35

I always read Julie Burchill with my stomach muscles braced because I expect a metaphorical punch to my gut - what have I done wrong now? So there's always a sense of glorious relaxation when I am not the one she's going for. Probably next week. In the meantime - I agree.

EntropicTupperwareDrawer · 04/08/2018 13:55

She delights me and pisses me off in almost equal parts Grin I'm sure she wouldn't mind that a bit though.

She is the enemy of lazy thinking, and more power to her for that.

BesmirchingMotherhood · 04/08/2018 15:07

‘Surrendered Wives of the Woke.’

Perfect.

gendercritter · 04/08/2018 15:10

The comments are good. They demonstrate that the vast majority of people see sense on this issue.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 04/08/2018 15:13

Surrendered wives to the Woke

How very well put.

QueenDoria · 04/08/2018 15:15

Great article. And witty too...

ScarletBegonias · 04/08/2018 16:34

I loved the piece and decided to follow her on Twitter so that I could show my support. But her Twitter account seems to be suspended for violation of rules. I can imagine the numerous Brighton TRAs piling in and reporting her in numbers.

QueenDoria · 04/08/2018 18:07

Julie, if you're reading - Yay!!

SirVixofVixHall · 04/08/2018 18:54

I love JB. She gets to the essence of any issue.

JacintaJones · 04/08/2018 19:38

I love her but even I consider her to have excelled herself with this piece.

Crack on Julie, crack on!

AdultHumanFemale · 04/08/2018 19:45

Ha ha ha, thanks for that!

ladydickisathingapparently · 04/08/2018 20:46

Fabulous article!

BlytheByName · 04/08/2018 20:53

Julie Birchill is one helluva woman. You'd have to be to marry Toby Young.
She's spot on here, as usual.

Procrastinator1 · 04/08/2018 21:06

Tony Parsons.

birdbandit · 04/08/2018 21:10

Ace article. I want friends like Julie.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/08/2018 21:25

Wineto Julie, and other 'tough broads'
