When you see threads plopped into FWR, especially the curious repeat of well worn subjects, I recommend you check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads being referenced on twitter with screen shots & flagging in either MNHQ or outlets to try & get articles commissioned.

OP posts:

Tiresome and blatant goady fuckery.

www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/aug/18/how-to-handle-a-troll-and-neuter-a-sea-lion-dealing-with-online-attacks-astroturfine-trolljacking

Sea lioning is the process of killing with dogged kindness and manufactured ignorance by asking questions, then turning on the victim in an instant. “In this, the perpetrator endlessly nitpicks and relentlessly pursues the topic, but oh so very politely and, when the target finally gets annoyed and retaliates, the sea lion takes on the wronged victim of abuse role,” says Hardaker.

VickyEadie · 18/11/2018 21:53

Indeed, arranfan. I've pulled out of that one.

arranfan · 21/11/2018 16:56

As a general note, the Why Do I Have to Lie thread:

This thread has been deleted by MNHQ for breaking our Talk Guidelines.

LangCleg · 21/11/2018 17:19

What happened there? I didn't look at it.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/11/2018 17:29

I saw the first few posts - the OP was talking about her ethical objections to using wrong-sex pronouns.

VickyEadie · 21/11/2018 17:29

No idea, LangCleg - looked fine when I saw it.

VickyEadie · 21/11/2018 17:32

It was about being forced to say things you don't believe - if it's because she gave examples and someone objected, we really are being forced to proclaim that "War is peace, freedom is slavery, and ignorance is strength.”

FloralBunting · 21/11/2018 17:34

If anyone posted on it and has the deletion message that could answer the queries?

arranfan · 21/11/2018 17:35

I think it was more because some of the comments veered into broaching MN's zero tolerance policy for rape myths and the ongoing exchanges made it difficult to bring the thread back on track.

LangCleg · 21/11/2018 18:23

Oh dear.

arranfan · 21/11/2018 18:36

Tricky tho' I may be wrong. Because, despite similar deletions, the 'How do survivors of SA and rape survive' thread is managing to keep going despite some similar potential.

arranfan · 22/11/2018 15:14

Sound recording of Leeds Terf Wars meeting thread is to be deleted as the organisers of the meeting have contacted MN wrt to their request that the event should not be recorded.

VickyEadie · 22/11/2018 16:01

Lest we hear threats of violence towards women, presumably...

JoanSummers · 22/11/2018 16:30

And Mumsnet has to comply with this demand why?

arranfan · 22/11/2018 16:34

Reasonable overview of the law:

Datedandold · 22/11/2018 16:36

Oh now, that ship has sailed!

PipGoesPop · 22/11/2018 17:10

It's fucking outrageous. I had a listen to some of the Leeds meeting and their whole agenda is TERFS hate us, they've always hated us, they're speaking up now because society isn't on their side anymore and they're scared. We need to stop them moving on the streets. That's about as far as I got before switching off.

I am not a TERF, I have NEVER hated transgender people and I still don't. I am scared yes, scared shitless of losing my rights and my privacy. Scared for my daughter who will just have to get over it when a male bodied person (and not trans) declares themselves trans to access women only spaces and makes her feel uncomfortable and unsafe. I am not anti trans. I am pro female.

If TWAW then they would get why us 'cis' (urgh) women feel the way we do. But they're not so they won't even try to understand.

Sorry, this probably isn't the right thread to vent on.

arranfan · 24/11/2018 11:16

Successful community disruptors are successful because they garner a disproportionate number of replies.

In other news...

Bunbury's law of anti-feminism: those seeking to centre men in feminism are usually men.

FermatsTheorem · 24/11/2018 11:25

Or in one of Bunbury's pithier comments, why the fuck are people engaging with what is obviously a misogynistic troll?

AngryAttackKittens · 24/11/2018 11:27

Does pisstaking count as engaging? Occasionally it drives them into frothing in amusing ways.

arranfan · 24/11/2018 11:27

I have a wretched headache (the sort that means I'm seeing the world as if through a thick layer of Vaseline and is making my nose bleed) but you have lightened my mood for me Grin

Bunbury is so much pithier and to the point than I manage...

AngryAttackKittens · 24/11/2018 11:29

Today in Bunbury's Extended Theory of Mendacious Fuckwittery...

FermatsTheorem · 24/11/2018 11:36

AAK Grin

I posted "never mind, I'm sure feminism will manage fine without you" but he didn't rise to the bait (and other posters didn't get the hint). Have hidden the thread now. How many posts is it on?
