When you see threads plopped into FWR, especially the curious repeat of well worn subjects, I recommend you check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads being referenced on twitter with screen shots & flagging in either MNHQ or outlets to try & get articles commissioned.

Because some of them don't believe in debate, and prefer to be echo chambers?

That's true of some fora - I'm thinking of the FB group where the moderator decided to hid all of the GC comments. However, that was a moderator deciding to abuse her powers.

On the very large communities (like the ones where researchers did their analysis) it's not my impression that debate is stifled because people dissent but that there are exchanges back and forth.

Is there no difference that can usefully be made between dissent and disruption or categories of disruption?

FloralBunting · 06/11/2018 15:31

I get frustrated at this nonsense 'I'm just a dissenting voice here, no one wants to answer me, it's an echo chamber' etc.

There are some people, I'm convinced, that avoid coming here, or come here and plop links, or just disruptively troll because they are really not very bright and don't actually understand the issues.

Whether this is because they are genuinely dim, or because they have been systematically removed from the basic education that teaches and enables the examination of ideas I don't know. But it's constantly on display from visitors here.

Ereshkigal · 06/11/2018 23:06

just disruptively troll because they are really not very bright and don't actually understand the issues.

Yes I can think of a few.

VickyEadie · 07/11/2018 11:18

Bunbury time.

VickyEadie · 07/11/2018 11:28

Western Civilisation thread - definitely Bunbury time.

FermatsTheorem · 07/11/2018 12:04

Yes, Bunbury's essay "Dog whistle phrases and their use in creating a spurious link between critical thinking and right wing ideologies" springs to mind, as does her shorter newspaper article "How to generate screen grabs through the creation of online frothing."

VickyEadie · 07/11/2018 12:48

Got report from MN mods - MRA, previously banned, etc. It's like the Walking Dead on here sometimes, isn't it?

FloralBunting · 07/11/2018 13:04

I'm like, so surprised.

VickyEadie · 07/11/2018 13:05

I've seldom seen so blatant an attempt to harvest screenshots, however.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/11/2018 11:07

A new thread which hopefully will garner no more responses than the perfectly pithy one so far before it gets nuked for homophobia.

littlbrowndog · 08/11/2018 11:10

It got nuked

ErrolTheDragon · 08/11/2018 11:16

Good, and the poster banned pronto.

I wish that was the recognised protocol for handling inflammatory threads - one post from dog and just reports from anyone else!

heresyandwitchcraft · 10/11/2018 09:19

Bump! Bunbury wouldn't be too pleased.

AngryAttackKittens · 10/11/2018 09:32

I think the Midnight Misogynist may be suffering from a very odd and specific form of OCD.

AngryAttackKittens · 10/11/2018 09:33

Compulsive Trolling Disorder, typically brought on by exposure to women having opinions.

heresyandwitchcraft · 10/11/2018 09:35

AAK, I think you may be right! Grin

arranfan · 10/11/2018 15:35

Not really a PSA but in the hope that somebody here knows what WPUK meant by this tweet?

We are thinking about our strategy going forward and how we can best work for the rights of women snd girls. Our work on the GRA continues but we are looking at a wasteland for women’s rights and we are going to make things grow. Join us.

I'd like to think it means what it says on the tin but in the absence of details, it seems to be the standard, Check your local council's website and talk to your MP

Does anyone have any more information, please?

arranfan · 11/11/2018 17:06

Some interesting 1st posts from new MN names.

I think I'm just going to need to come to terms with the confusion caused by zombie threads goaded back to galvanic jerks and the Recalled to Life posters.

Interesting attempts to create screenshots to post elsewhere - getting nowhere at present but the evening is very young.

AngryAttackKittens · 11/11/2018 17:14

It's Necro Sunday!

scepticalwoman · 12/11/2018 17:05

A quick Monday bump

UpstartCrow · 13/11/2018 11:17

And another for GFTuesday.

Ereshkigal · 13/11/2018 11:52

Incoming goady thread moved from AIBU

FloralBunting · 13/11/2018 17:39

Did every sanctimonious AWA get the day off today and decide to pop in to FWR? Was it prearranged or serendipitous?

littlbrowndog · 13/11/2018 17:44

It’s totally tersome flora

littlbrowndog · 13/11/2018 17:45

Tiresome
