When you see threads plopped into FWR, especially the curious repeat of well worn subjects, I recommend you check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads being referenced on twitter with screen shots & flagging in either MNHQ or outlets to try & get articles commissioned.

OP posts:
CantUnderstandNoThing · 01/11/2018 02:58

Bunbury has mentioned that the use of loaded words such as vitriol as a pre-emptive about other women and in an opening sentence from a person purporting to represent their ideological uncertainty is not indicative of a feminist sensibility.

Thread went exactly as it was intended to go from the outset.

Oh do fuck off. I had no intention for how the thread was going to go. Most people on there seemed to realise that.

CantUnderstandNoThing · 01/11/2018 03:00

But I'm hearing you loud and clear. Don't question, don't discuss, just agree.

LangCleg · 01/11/2018 08:50

Looking forward to Bunbury's upcoming work, Quod Erat Demonstrandum!

VickyEadie · 01/11/2018 13:26

Looking forward to Bunbury's upcoming work, Quod Erat Demonstrandum!

She's toying with a sub-title, I believe: ad absurdum...

Iused2BanOptimist · 02/11/2018 08:45

There's some odd stuff going on, same comment on several threads, all now deleted.

arranfan · 03/11/2018 19:48

I see that the return of a poster who chooses not to engage is being rewarded with a high volume of replies and one-way interaction (a thread with previously modest traffic has ballooned). (In the community disruptor research linked above, Stanford and Cornell researchers highlight how successful disruptors can be at garnering responses.)

LangCleg · 03/11/2018 20:40

Please withhold reward!

arranfan · 04/11/2018 14:28

I'm trying to come up with a description of repeated attempts to derail even when called out that are followed by other attempts to derail when the thread has been explicitly hauled back onto the rails.

Nibbled to death by ducks?

AngryAttackKittens · 04/11/2018 14:30

Is it possibly for someone to literally bore another person to death? He certainly seems determined to try.

arranfan · 04/11/2018 14:42

I've only just realised how readily Bunbury lends herself to many useful verb forms.

Bunbury
Bunbore
Bunderail
Bundrone
Bunabout(ery)

AngryAttackKittens · 04/11/2018 14:45

But never Bunsplaining, because Germaine's contributions are always welcome and relevant.

VickyEadie · 04/11/2018 15:37

On which thread(s) is the Bunbore?

FloralBunting · 04/11/2018 17:52

Germaine is indeed always... germane...

Ereshkigal · 04/11/2018 18:07

Buncissism?

FermatsTheorem · 04/11/2018 22:06

An additional PSA - my spidey senses go off when someone very new to MN suddenly raises a very obscure post one of us made months ago out of the blue... Makes me wonder if prior to posting they'd spent a great deal of time, an unhealthy amount one might say, advance-searching some of the regulars and trying to find odd details to go on fishing expeditions possibly with a view to piecing together posters' histories outside of MN.

Just a thought.

arranfan · 04/11/2018 22:14

Too many threads to be able to notice all of these exciting probe expeditions. :)

I don't know if it's more akin to sic-fi films where the hostile forces constantly probe boundaries (tho' Forbidden Planet now comes to mind because of the ego manifestation) or more straightforward war histories with incursions into territory and scouting expeditions. :)

ErrolTheDragon · 04/11/2018 22:45

tho' Forbidden Planet now comes to mind because of the ego manifestation

Not ego, surely that was the Monster from the Id?

arranfan · 04/11/2018 22:51

Not ego, surely that was the Monster from the Id?

Knew I should have Googled...that was a slip by me because I was thinking about testing ego defences to see how far incursions could go and was getting lost in my own analogies. Blush

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 05/11/2018 11:05

Bumping because I don't know how to respond to someone who conflates ideologies, posts meaningless word soup, then insists AMALT.

AngryAttackKittens · 05/11/2018 11:07

Complete non-engagement. As long as people keep feeding him he'll never leave. The only way to get rid of them is to starve them of that delicious attention from women that they crave.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 05/11/2018 11:12

Yes, you're right. I shall resist the urge to post the Inigo Montoya meme.

arranfan · 05/11/2018 23:06

Yet another Recalled to Life poster I hadn't seen in a while who may have initiated a thread in the hopes of a goaded screenshot.

I may be wrong.

doublethink · 06/11/2018 00:51

T'is that time of night.....

arranfan · 06/11/2018 11:50

And that thread is garnering many replies.

The triumph of hope over experience by the responders?

The usual, "What about the lurkers?"

An unwavering belief that rationality must eventually triumph no matter how insincere the original OP and implausible that the OP is seeking to engage, there must be a way of getting through?

The Chesterton's Fence argument - what is the reason that other online communities don't permit this level of disruption?

ErrolTheDragon · 06/11/2018 13:40

The Chesterton's Fence argument - what is the reason that other online communities don't permit this level of disruption?

Because some of them don't believe in debate, and prefer to be echo chambers?
