When you see threads plopped into FWR, especially the curious repeat of well worn subjects, I recommend you check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads being referenced on twitter with screen shots & flagging in either MNHQ or outlets to try & get articles commissioned.

OP posts:

Early morning bump as just arrived on an overnight flight. Excellent point. Don’t feed the trolls.

EmpressOfSpartacus · 30/07/2018 05:56

Thanks Tension.

FermatsTheorem · 30/07/2018 07:24

Bumping again.

Be wary of posts you don't know the provenance of.

AngryAttackKittens · 30/07/2018 07:35

I suspect we will see more of this over the next few days to deflect from the Jess Bradley situation.

TRAs - There is absolutely no chance of any of the stuff we're campaigning for being taken advantage of by creeps who wants to show everyone their cocks.

Jess Bradley - Hi, internet! Here's my cock! And also some creepy stuff about schoolboys!

TRAs - (Try to pretend this isn't happening) (Shit it's not working people have noticed) Oh look, over there, a bird doing the hokey pokey!

There's a particularly transparent attempt at harvesting IP addresses/emails/ etc going on at the moment on another thread, which I won't link to. So bad it's hilarious. Up there in the "send me your bank details and passwords so I can process my unexpected legacy and I'll give you a 10% cut" class of scam.

Potplant2 · 30/07/2018 07:52

Yes, indeed

Potplant2 · 30/07/2018 08:02

Oh dear what a shame, someone reported that scam thread and it’s been deleted. Nice try

ToeToToe · 30/07/2018 08:12

They're spitting venom over on twitter. One has just posted that coming over here to "look into our histories and see what can be reported for hate speech."

Anything to deflect from the NUS Trans Officer suspended for allegedly running a flasher's site, and allegedly exposing their penis in the workplace. The same NUS Trans Officer who spoke to Sky about fighting for trans rights.

They'll need something pretty fucking huge to deflect from that train crash...

Ereshkigal · 30/07/2018 09:17

What was the scam asking?

KittyKlaws · 30/07/2018 09:20

Probably wise to be vigilant to this kind of thing while they are fire fighting a breech of 'this never happens'.

Thanks for the reminder.

Bumbungo · 30/07/2018 09:44

Please do be careful re. what sites you click on. The owners of websites and blogs have access to IP addresses and obviouly you don't want to 'sign up' to anything which can compromise your email address.

Also, don't use an email address which has personal emails - create a soc and use it. Don't link that one to you main email - just make sure you write down the password or you could get locked out - but basically make it so that it actually doesn't matter if you were to be

EmpressOfSpartacus · 30/07/2018 09:49

The scam was inviting "ladies" to click on a link & join a new feminism discussion group.

Ereshkigal · 30/07/2018 09:54

That's relatively obvious, but it might catch some people. I've had to cancel my card because I responded to a phishing email absentmindedly once.

BlytheByName · 30/07/2018 09:55

Morning!
Bumping the thread again.

Helen Lewis has done a fine job on twitter this morning with regards to his Lordship of the Leather Apron.

Melamin · 30/07/2018 09:59

Just following this has taught me a lot about internet security. I now have new e-mail accounts unconnected to the old ones. (It is good to have one for signing up for things where you get lots of spam too Wink )

Bumbungo · 30/07/2018 10:04

Ereshkigal

In my experience, most people are not security savvy at all. It's quite shocking how much information people will give out for no reason.

Bumbungo · 30/07/2018 10:09

Good for Helen Lewis. Glad to see her talking about this. Thanks Helen, if you are reading.

LangCleg · 30/07/2018 10:35

Wait, what? They posted a phishing thread? JFC. Lowest common denominator tactics.

PerryPerryThePlatypus · 30/07/2018 12:30

Bumpity bump.

Funny how the loudest most offended voices on SM are silent about recent revelations. #fuglycock

ReappearingWoman · 30/07/2018 14:58

Bumpity bump

TransplantsArePlants · 30/07/2018 16:20

I am enjoying my Erasure whilst bumping on The Wrong Side Of History

Sarahconnor1 · 30/07/2018 19:10

The harrop thread is being screen shot and posted (selectively) on Twitter.

Which helpfully reminded me to bump this.

ReappearingWoman · 30/07/2018 21:53

Timely bump👀
