When you see threads plopped into FWR, especially the curious repeat of well worn subjects, I recommend you check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads being referenced on twitter with screen shots & flagging in either MNHQ or outlets to try & get articles commissioned.

OP posts:

Is there anyway you can hint when you see people being sucked in? My brain sometimes goes a little haywire. My coping mechanisms sometimes fail.

Also, do you think that part of their tactics is to try and create a wedge between ..erm how to phrase this...those transpeople who are more generally understanding of women and women. Are they deliberately trying To make the gap as wide as possible?

VickyEadie · 13/10/2018 15:53

Posting about Germaine Bunbury is generally the current hint - but it doesn't always work even with regulars who understand it! AND Bunbury is sometimes invoked on non troll or goady threads.

FloralBunting · 13/10/2018 16:40

Yeah, in all honesty last night I was hugely facetious and giddy as a release valve from some shitty real life stuff, and the transphobic U-boat incident arose from that rather than a point of cool decision. Mea culpa.

LangCleg · 13/10/2018 17:09

Posting about Germaine Bunbury is generally the current hint - but it doesn't always work even with regulars who understand it!

Sometimes, I even post about Bunbury while falling for it.

theOtherPamAyres · 13/10/2018 17:11

I think we need to insert a graphic or a gif. I don't know what.

Even ones that say things like: off topic; stranger-danger; well done - maximum points for derailling this topic; watch out - there are ne'er do wells about; quiet please, screenshots in progress...

ErrolTheDragon · 13/10/2018 17:40

Sometimes explicit suggestions to not engage with derailers don't work. Either it's because a poster believes - maybe rightly in some cases - that a rebuttal is needed, sometimes because they were busy writing the post when the warning came in and then they don't read back before what they wrote... its impossible to prevent.

arranfan · 13/10/2018 18:29

There's no straightforward way of doing it as we all have different ways of handling matters and MN rules probably don't tolerate hinting as it might be akin to troll-hunting...

MIdgebabe · 13/10/2018 18:38

Oh, I see. well at least I feel less bad when other people say they make mistakes sometimes too.

theOtherPamAyres · 13/10/2018 18:42

we all have different ways of handling matters

True - and that's a good thing. Also, to post to a topic just makes it rise further to the top. It's a dilemma for sure.

arranfan · 13/10/2018 19:28

And we have more, "What-abouttery" in progress...

FloralBunting · 13/10/2018 19:33

< comes in and smacks head off a large copy of Bunbury's large tome 'The prevalence of the verbal shrug when presented with the risk of harm to women'>

arranfan · 13/10/2018 21:05

'The prevalence of the verbal shrug when presented with the risk of harm to women'

And the certain knowledge that nobody, despite their protestations, would publicly hold that viewpoint apart from when debating. To enact that in real life situations would be the hallmark of a worrying *pathy.

gilchrist168 · 13/10/2018 22:24

Returner here. I don't do pm.
Re: the zombie thread last night on misogynist comedian.

The person resurrecting that 2017 thread, wanted to talk violence by women on men, and also purported to be a woman. Very into violence specifics. Disturbingly so.
They were impersonating a senior uk academic. A woman who is very much an adult human female, and her work leads her to very murky places.

Posts are now deleted, thread stands, (thanks MNHQ,) and doppelganger banned. If a "real" name, then it's worth a ponder if content looks dodgy. Thanks

gilchrist168 · 13/10/2018 22:32

For what it's worth, several " hints"were given and ignored.
The banned poster knew they'd been rumbled and insisted their name was that of a silent screen actress, and managed to carry on with their bile for some time.

pombear · 14/10/2018 01:50

'Tis that time!

NotBadConsidering · 14/10/2018 04:05

Bump..

gilchrist168 · 14/10/2018 08:38

The woke, are woke early this morning.
Change of tactics. It won't last, it's a pain getting up on early shift on a Sunday.

arranfan · 14/10/2018 09:05

There's a recrudescence in a zombie thread (sounds like a lyric)
There's lots of sad regret that we're woman-ing and feminist-ing wrong and being disgrace to womanhood.

That's my Sunday morning reproofs started.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 14/10/2018 09:13

Oh Fuck. It's back.

arranfan · 14/10/2018 09:39

Ah - I see the zombie use of stats already paintstakingly critiqued earlier in the thread gambit is strong with some...

YetAnotherSpartacus · 14/10/2018 09:40

There are two going in tandem.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 14/10/2018 10:09

And a new thread re Intersex @@.

arranfan · 14/10/2018 10:10

I've just seen a "starve oxygen" request.

Reminds me of the late Linda Smith :)

I don't really like you saying his name, because it gives him the oxygen of publicity and I'm not happy with him having the oxygen of oxygen.

LangCleg · 14/10/2018 10:18

I tried with the oxygen thing but I bet it doesn't work.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 14/10/2018 10:20

It hasn't. RTFT people.
