When you see threads plopped into FWR, especially the curious repeat of well worn subjects, I recommend you check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads being referenced on twitter with screen shots & flagging in either MNHQ or outlets to try & get articles commissioned.

OP posts:

It is going to be interesting to discern new posters who have joined because of recent events and differentiate from community disruptors.

There should be at least a few genuine. There were a couple of younger women sat in front of me last night who were peaking approximately every 10.6s through Jean and Anne's speeches (both funny and heart breaking to see). They hadn't thought to join MN because they weren't mums, but I hope I encouraged them to come and lurk at least.

I love Germaine Bunbury. Her work needs to be publicised much more widely.

I know! She's getting on in years a bit now, but her masterwork 'No woman has a todger' was once required reading for feminists.

GulagsMyArse · 29/09/2018 14:46

'No woman has a todger' Grin glad I wasn't drinking my tea when I read that.

deepwatersolo · 29/09/2018 15:01

arranfan thank you for the link!

VickyEadie · 29/09/2018 22:25

I could be wrong, but I think it's faux naive question thread night.

arranfan · 29/09/2018 22:27

I don't think you're wrong. It's the persistence.

I can see why the researchers say 5-10 posts to establish a pattern of intent (as above). But there comes a time when the tone slips and the agenda leaks.

Anlaf · 29/09/2018 22:33

I've been calling round the yellow pages for Germaine Bunbury's "No Woman has a Todger" mentioned upthread. Does anyone know if it's still in print?

Vrai interesting post arran

VickyEadie · 29/09/2018 22:35

Anlaf It'll be shelved next to 'Fly fishing by J R Hartley ( wonders if Anlaf is old enough to get that reference).

Anlaf · 29/09/2018 22:41

GrinGrin

I am amply old enough Vicky. I can even recite the bloody advert. "You do? my name? it's J R..."

Pointless brand penetration really, given yellow pages is defunct. I think

Cd we do a modern one, with Bunbury in her classic mumsnet scarf. After googling furiously, she clicks PURCHASE and her browser autocompletes [email protected]...

VickyEadie · 29/09/2018 22:44

I'd appreciate it if we could find more of her work. She was quite prolific - an essay or book for every occasion...

BeUpStanding · 30/09/2018 08:21

All the faux naive OPs at the moment are really tedious.

I'm off to Google Bunbury...

BeUpStanding · 30/09/2018 08:24

Well that'll teach me not to post without reading all the updates! 😂

VickyEadie · 30/09/2018 09:14

It's hard - even when you're certain it's not genuine - to stop yourself, though.

For those unfamiliar with her, Bunbury is a Kiwi. Fellow New Zealander Richard O'Brien refutes her claim that they once had a passionate affair, during which she gave him the idea for Rocky Horror, though he once apparently admitted when pressed that the song'Toucha toucha toucha me, I wanna be dirty' was inspired by a speech by Germaine to the Oxford Union during the debate 'This House believes that feminists are all man-haters and frigid'.

BeUpStanding · 30/09/2018 10:25

OK I'm now totally confused... Is Bunbury a real person or an in-joke?! Google gave me zero hits Confused

ErrolTheDragon · 30/09/2018 10:45

Bunbury was a fictional friend in The Importance of Being Earnest.

LangCleg · 30/09/2018 10:51

It is. I do my best but am not always successful.

VickyEadie · 30/09/2018 11:19

Bunbury was a fictional friend in The Importance of Being Earnest.

But we're talking about his cousin, Germaine, of course... Grin

heresyandwitchcraft · 30/09/2018 21:54

General awareness bump

arranfan · 30/09/2018 22:52

Again, fascinating.

The throwing down of a challenge by an OP who has taken the precaution of placing the equivalent of sealing wax in the ears and over the neurones that would need to fire to consider new thoughts.

Beyond that - too many interesting threads today. :) I've had to restrict the number that I'd open in case I got too drawn in. :)

FermatsTheorem · 30/09/2018 22:55

Vicky, you are a genius and I salute you.

scepticalwoman · 01/10/2018 07:57

Monday morning bump given how busy this board is. Suggest new posters have a read of the first posts on this thread just to acquaint yourself with the some of the tactics used to provoke posters.

VickyEadie · 01/10/2018 08:00

Some good news threads, though.

frogintheTyne · 01/10/2018 09:06

Monday morning re-bump.

and it's only 9 o'clock!

VickyEadie · 01/10/2018 09:09

Blatant, TRANSparent fishing exercise going on already.

Potplant2 · 01/10/2018 21:03
