When you see threads plopped into FWR, especially the curious repeat of well worn subjects, I recommend you check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads being referenced on twitter with screen shots & flagging in either MNHQ or outlets to try & get articles commissioned.

OP posts:

I wish there was something I could do about the gaslighting of Lisa, but at this point that thread seems to be headed firmly in the "let's all call her an idiot who secretly hates women" direction.

SophoclesTheFox · 18/09/2018 08:01

I don't read that thread like that at all, AAK. I don't know what I'm missing as context, because it's all gone very weird. Also don't want to detract from the usefulness of this thread.

AngryAttackKittens · 18/09/2018 08:04

Better not to get into it here, but yeah, definite gaslighting of Lisa going on in both that and the other thread. Not sure who this new person is or why they immediately tore into Lisa like a dog with a bone.

LangCleg · 18/09/2018 08:17

It does genuinely happen to her everywhere. I used to think that she was exaggerating. But y'know... look what happened here. She shows up on MN for a couple of days and, lo and behold, someone join up purely to gaslight her that Labour activists never protect the party and their identity by shouting at uppity women who talk in ways Labour might not like.

AngryAttackKittens · 18/09/2018 08:20

Given that we've recently lost Maryz and Bewilderness I hope that people won't fall for it, because I don't want us to lose Lisa too.

LangCleg · 18/09/2018 08:31

Indeed.

frogintheTyne · 18/09/2018 08:35

And another

AngryAttackKittens · 18/09/2018 08:49

Ugh, I couldn't resist snarking. Next time I respond someone smack me with a rolled up paper.

arranfan · 18/09/2018 10:22

AAK wrote: Next time I respond someone smack me with a rolled up paper.

But we couldn't practise literal violence by proxy - what would that make us?!? Or is it OK if the newspaper is not of the more literary sort? :)

Do we need a Little Women phrase? Birds in their little nests agree.

Wonk note: Isaac Watts (1715): Birds in their little nest agree; and 'tis a shameful sight, when children of one family fall out, and chide, and fight.

AngryAttackKittens · 18/09/2018 10:24

I'm quite picky about who I share my nest with, personally.

BlackeyedSusan · 18/09/2018 12:05

birds in their little nest tip out the smaller birds, or eat them sometimes too.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/09/2018 12:16

And are then assiduously cared for by the poor duped parents. Hm... if we want an alternative to 'handmaidens' for some libfems, maybe reed warbler or Dunnock would fit the bill?

arranfan · 18/09/2018 12:45

That Hayton thread has been powerful to the extent that you can almost hear scales dropping.

I'm so concerned about the possibility of it being zapped that I wish it could be locked.

How ridiculous is that. I'm so worried about losing the previous excellent posts discussing the point that I would be in favour of locking that thread to more excellent posts discussing the point. (There could be a 2nd thread but that is not the same.)

AngryAttackKittens · 18/09/2018 12:49

Has anyone screenshotted it yet? I would if I knew how.

R0wantrees · 18/09/2018 12:52

arranfan I felt that the thread about Paris Lees leaving the reality show was making similarly important wider issues.

There was also one about the Panorama program about online Drs prescribing

Its a shame.

A lot of important posts are lost.

arranfan · 18/09/2018 14:19

It's so important to keep this board and the posts - where else can we talk like this?

Heather Brunskell-Evans has just commented on the WEP thread:

Top surgery thread deleted for anyone looking there:

Message from MNHQ: We had two threads running on this same story, so we've deleted this one but please do join the discussion over in AIBU here

Fair enough - and that should teach me to make a note of any sources I put in one thread but not another. Mea culpa.

R0wantrees · 18/09/2018 14:56

Top surgery thread deleted for anyone looking there

I don't understand this.... there have been a number of double threads about significant issues.

Is it not possible to close to further comments with that message?

THere was some interesting and different points made on that thread which had been running since last night.

VickyEadie · 18/09/2018 15:37

Meanwhile, we have a pet to play with.

terryleather · 18/09/2018 15:50

MNHQ have deaded our new pet Vicky - and I was really rather enjoying his old skool stylie...

VickyEadie · 18/09/2018 15:52

terryleather

Awwww!

@MNHQ - can we get a pet king cobra instead, then?

terryleather · 18/09/2018 16:01

I think our troll thought he had a king cobra down his pants, what with having a 15 incher an' all...

I much prefer an old skool troll, at least you know where you are with them, although it's vexing that we're not supposed to mention cereal now. I'm too tired most of the time to try and work out if the new style ones are GF or not.

VickyEadie · 18/09/2018 16:04

I do miss cereal banter.

terryleather · 18/09/2018 16:09

So do I...although I can do without the mention of hot milk and banana!

VickyEadie · 18/09/2018 16:13

Dares to mention...WBH!

Meanwhile, the subject of Public Service Announcements is very important and should be taken extremely seriously and not derailed.
