When you see threads plopped into FWR, especially the curious repeat of well worn subjects, I recommend you check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads being referenced on twitter with screen shots & flagging in either MNHQ or outlets to try & get articles commissioned.

OP posts:

Do check posting history.

arranfan · 06/09/2018 08:04

And not just to bump but maybe ignore any PMs from people with usernames that are a bit like Ronseal and have contents that match?

As has been stated, MLK could have saved himself hours of speech writing and tedious oratory had he taken on board the value of the short, punchy political message that some people adopt.

Bumping

YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/09/2018 11:52

Yes, it seems that the GF baton has been passed once again...

FermatsTheorem · 11/09/2018 12:10

Oh yes, disingenous thread starting, and a side-order of appropriation of other people's medical history.

dolorsit · 11/09/2018 12:14

Thanks, I'm a little upset/embarrassed I fell for it.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/09/2018 12:18

Your post has been nixed. Don't worry about it. Flowers

YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/09/2018 13:07

Bloody hell - there's another this one needs spelling lessons

AngryAttackKittens · 11/09/2018 13:10

Slow day at the offices of Gender Central? There really are a lot.

nauticant · 11/09/2018 13:15

this one needs spelling lessons

That could well be the "harvesting for twitter replies sneering at lower educational privilege" variant.

AngryAttackKittens · 11/09/2018 13:16

Resisted temptation to post download link for Grammarly.

Halo
VickyEadie · 11/09/2018 13:17

It's a good 'un and no mistake.

A research project involving Cornell and Stanford looked at ways to automate the classification of particular categories of poster: Antisocial Behavior in Online Discussion Communities

cs.stanford.edu/people/jure/pubs/trolls-icwsm15.pdf

The researchers highlighted implausibly poor spelling and punctuation as characteristics of such posts. These posts tend to score a difficult readability index.

Aside from the interesting research issues, it's disrespectful to people with specific learning disabilities and it's a mess for posters like Hot Rocker who rely upon screen reading software.

This video sums up the research findings and highlights the characteristics of: Bad grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

FloralBunting · 11/09/2018 13:38

Crikey, it's like trench warfare out there right now. It seems the more the bad stuff comes to light, the less they can resist coming along and posting attempted distraction bollocks.

NameChangedAgain18 · 11/09/2018 13:39

And, as if by magic, up pops the poster whose dyslexic (ahem!) sock puppet I suspected it was . . .

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 11/09/2018 13:41

Dyslexics have certain spelling patterns which are very different to mere bad spelling. They can also have very high IQ. So, despite erratic spelling are perfectly capable of being intelligible.

I don't think taking the piss is big or clever. Anyone pretending to be dyslexic to harvest nasty comments would be pretty low in my book.

I'm saying this on here as I'd rather not give certain individuals the oxygen of publicity!

VickyEadie · 11/09/2018 13:41

Is the best tactic just to ignore it and bump as many other threads as possible?

NameChangedAgain18 · 11/09/2018 13:47

Stupidly, I engaged, but yes, you are right VickyEadie

FloralBunting · 11/09/2018 13:47

I think bumping other things is probably the best idea. As tempting as it is to dismantle this stuff, it's playing into their hands to give them attention, and there are actual really important things going on in the world right now that need our focus.

Bat the Gadflies away is my advice.

VickyEadie · 11/09/2018 13:48

Agreed.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/09/2018 13:49

Bump.

arranfan · 11/09/2018 13:51

In many ways the presence of non-community moderation would make for an interesting research study as to the persistence of anti-social behaviour in communities.

Particularly in those instances where people are using it to get screenshots to disseminate on a different platform.
