Mr Harrop and friends are misinforming them on twitter:

Ooh that sounds great! I think they have them in Asda.

terryleather · 28/07/2018 21:01

I will hunt them down in Asda, thanks for the tip!

arranfan · 28/07/2018 21:18

terryleather wrote stuffed in a crispy Glasgow roll

Is that a crispy morning roll? Something I've missed for so many years?

TheCountryGirl · 28/07/2018 21:29

Thanks to Birds Eye's stance so far, I filled my new chest freezer with their products today (rather than my usual Young's and Donegal Catch). If they keep this up, they have a loyal customer in me - a mother of four young children!

Popchyk · 28/07/2018 21:33

Ahhh, I used to love a well-fired morning roll.

arranfan · 28/07/2018 21:40

well-fired morning roll

The people who don't understand well-fired and consider it a euphemism for burned.

What would I give for a well-fired morning roll for breakfast tomorrow with some mushrooms and tomato.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 28/07/2018 21:42

I love a well fired morning roll. Mmmm

terryleather · 28/07/2018 21:50

Yes arran, usually call them Morton's rolls cause they make the best ones - there is nothing like a doubler with Stornaway black pudding & square sausage (or Lorne if you will) and brown sauce.

I'm not a fan of the well fired ones but I understand that their fans love them!

frogface69 · 28/07/2018 21:51

My DM worked for Bird's-eye in the 1960s. Most of the employees were women. Jobs there were like gold dust, they were very good to work for. Don't think they are there anymore, now the trawlers have gone.
The factory was immaculate, and cleaners were well paid and had same benefits as everyone else.
I have always bought Bird's-eye.

terryleather · 28/07/2018 21:54

Yet another reason to love Birds Eye, frog!

Popchyk · 28/07/2018 22:00

My dad and I used to fight over the most well-fired morning roll.

He'd put up a spirited fight but he'd always let me win in the end. Smile

Sorry, this is a merail.

I confess that I have no Birds Eye material to draw on.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/07/2018 22:40

As a clueless Sassenach I had to google and found this which will inform the ignorant but also may be of interest those yearning for a roll as it includes a recipe

foodanddrink.scotsman.com/food/the-history-of-glasgow-morning-rolls-including-a-recipe-for-making-your-own/

ErrolTheDragon · 28/07/2018 22:43

(I'm sure Birds Eye won't have minded a bit of a diversion onto things other than soft sliced white for encasing their products)

terryleather · 28/07/2018 22:51

Stale Glasgow rolls are brilliant for making breadcrumbs fyi...that article is great Errol thanks for the link!

SunsetBeetch · 28/07/2018 23:38

Lily has jumped on the transwagon too

Anyone want to tell Birdseye they appreciate freedom of speech and women's rights
terryleather · 28/07/2018 23:57

Is that tiresome narcissistic still at it??

Bet they have mustard on a fish finger sandwich...

ErrolTheDragon · 29/07/2018 00:04

I refuse to believe anyone has mustard on an FFS.

terryleather · 29/07/2018 00:34

You may not want to believe it Errol and who would, but that doesn't mean it's not happening...FFS-with-mustard-eaters walk among us, I'm absolutely sure of thatGrin

arranfan · 29/07/2018 08:24

Bet they have mustard on a fish finger sandwich...

Steady on. I know things are a bit tense but that's quite the assumption to have about anyone.

I may/not be praising all the little fishes Errol as it's currently raining so nobody is likely to want to assassinate me for putting the oven on at bread baking temperatures (see Morning Roll recipe).

If Bird's Eye could offer regional specialities - a range of frozen, stuffed morning rolls. There are some in my house who'd like to get their jaws around the doubler that terryleather described. The Liverpudlian offering would be a barm cake with a doubler filling of bacon and Ulster Fry (I've never found the latter anywhere but Liverpool).

AngryAttackKittens · 29/07/2018 08:29

Love me some square sausage on a roll. Didn't David Tennant have a go at it at some point as being disgusting? Not a wise move there, pal.

What's an Ulster Fry and why can't you get it in Ireland?

AltheaorDonna · 29/07/2018 08:45

You most certainly can get an Ulster Fry in Ulster! My mum makes a great one. It’s basically a fry up with extra soda bread and potato farls and pancakes. You need a good lie down after eating it. Grin

AngryAttackKittens · 29/07/2018 08:48

So not just in Liverpool after all, then! I'm not keen on the baked beans or any sausage other then the square kind for breakfast but will happily hoover up any leftover potato related goodies or bread.

arranfan · 29/07/2018 08:51

Many people think that an Ulster Fry is the full cooked breakfast with potato farls and soda bread, e.g., Ulster Fry

In Liverpool, Ulster Fry is a meat product that is like a thinly-sliced not-chorizo with red rind in larger, non-circular form and it's typically purchased from a supermarket deli (along with liver sausage which should be fried as part of a mixed grill along with black pudding etc.). The only place that I know that sell it don't have a photograph: Blood's Ulster Fry (Lockwood's of Liverpool mention it but, again, no photograph. You'd think it's a regional shame or something.)

Some people offer tinned bacon fry as a substitute for Ulster Fry. They are to be pitied yet abjured.

arranfan · 29/07/2018 08:53

x-posted - just in time to see someone post about the other Ulster Fry :)

Mind, I'm easy - proper Ulster Fry in a well-fired morning roll, a stottie, Staffordshire oatcake - my lot would be fighting like gannets.

WhatFreshHellisCis · 29/07/2018 09:22

I can feel a stock up on chicken dippers and fishfingers coming on
