Historically Claiming People as Trans

Has anyone got any examples of this?
I’ve been reading a bit into Stonewall and how it was set up and one group seem to claim Sylvia Rivera as trans whilst others dispute this.

And Dante Tex Gill (who Scarlett J was set to play) is now being called trans which many people all dispute.

A woman I went to university with (who to be fair I only spoke to a few times) was, amongst the people who knew and lived with, always a lesbian. She was butch and used the unisex shortening of her name and always referred to herself as a woman.
Sadly she died about 18 months ago. Recently people outside of her social circle, at a uni event, starting calling her a “trans man” and have even changed her Wikipedia page to reflect their view point.

Are there further examples?

I did see a tweet, and probably have a ss somewhere, claiming Joan of arc as a trans woman.

I kid you not.

It is called "transing the dead", and they do it once the GNC people are dead so they cannot be disputed.

Sylvia Rivera was a drag queen I think, not 'trans' (trans themselves make that distinction, but happy to TTD it seems).

I think they claim Joan D'Arc was trans, even though ignoring the historical context forbidding what women could do.

Teena Brandon, this one not clear cut, because she did pose as a boy because she was a lesbian, and I think 'small town mentality'.

Cross-posted, clearly.

transing the dead

Wow, I am disgusted.
So any woman not wearing a dress, can expect to be transed when they are no longer.

Marsha p Johnson who trans activists have retroactively claimed and are now using to justify claims that ‘trans people started pride’ re get the l out...

That really really saddens me. Marsha P (ay it no mind!) was a gay man and a drag queen...

This is another link the TRAs have with religion. The Church of Jesus Christ & Latter Day Saints (Mormons) do posthumous conversions to their religion. That's why they have such an interest in family history. So we could all end up dead trans Mormons. But I bet they wouldn't convert trans people. Probably don't approve of that.

Offred · 13/07/2018 23:44

They have been trying to rewrite his wiki page for an age...

nauticant · 13/07/2018 23:57

James Barry is another one. (She might be linked to above.)

thebewilderness · 14/07/2018 00:35

Stormé DeLarverie was until recently credited with inspiring the uprising at Stonewall.
TRAs not only transitioning Lesbians and Gays to take credit for their achievements, in the tradition of men throughout history, but posthumously transitioning a Gay male drag performer who was not even there in order to give them credit for what a Lesbian inspired tells the world exactly who they are.

I noticed Ruth of Stonedall saying something like Trans have always been oppressed throughout history 🤔🤔

First I've heard of it - maybe they've transed the whole of history now - which would be in keeping with what's being described

thebewilderness · 14/07/2018 05:05

Maybe they were referring to the eunuchs or possibly the casterati?

Isn't there a religious cult - The Mormons- who baptise people after their death without consent?

What's being described here goes further than that though - unconscionable behaviour (thx Lang's dad)

Really these people know no bounds. Is any of this reportable as a crime? Viscerally it's analogous to interfering with a corpse

womanformallyknownaswoman · 14/07/2018 05:19

castrati

I just looked at the historical methods used to keep the falsetto voice and stop puberty 😯

There are many parallels with what I read of the puberty blockers - oh dear those poor children

noeffingidea · 14/07/2018 06:42

I've heard that a few people on Tumblr tried to trans David Bowie and Prince after they died. Well Bowie wore a dress and makeup a few times, and Prince ... liked purple, so yeah.

thebewilderness · 14/07/2018 06:46

The Mormons and their free ancestry search websites the unsuspecting users do not realize are being used to posthumously baptize the deceased family members.

FelineChapo · 14/07/2018 06:57

I had a TRA try and retrospectively trans me earlier this week and I’m very much alive!
They were of the view that as I was gender non conforming that meant I had a “trans” experience. I’m a butch lesbian. I’m a woman. I am categorically not trans and nor will I ever be. My “experience” is entirely that of a butch lesbian.
If they can try it on with the living, the dead have no hope.

noeffingidea · 14/07/2018 10:45

It's just homophobia in a new form, IMO. Cross dressing and being gender nonconforming has traditionally been part of/associated with gay and lesbian culture, at a time when gay and lesbian men were afraid to express themselves freely.

UpstartCrow · 14/07/2018 11:01

'Denial of the right of existence of entire human groups' is contrary to
international law.
When those groups are murdered, its genocide. But there are other ways to destroy distinct groups, by destroying their culture, or by assimilation.

SardinesAreYum · 14/07/2018 11:10

How it worsk is because any women in history who has ever done anything of note that was not related to femininity must have been a man.

This is because men are for doing stuff and women are for looking pretty.

No sexism to see here at all.

garam · 14/07/2018 11:14

They used the only language that was available at the time, but has come to be understood in modern terms as under the trans umbrella, and it isn't just trans people claiming this.

The point is with historical figures you can not ask them in modern terms.

But people who have surpassed the binary modes of modern western culture have existed throughout history throughout the world.

We find more divergence from man/woman within many indigenous cultures before the crusades and colonialism asserted that to diverge from man/woman is to stray from god.

UpstartCrow · 14/07/2018 11:22

When men impose strict codes of behaviour on women, the women who want to live find ways to do so.

No one has the right to trans people retrospectively; its no different from 'dead naming'.

garam · 14/07/2018 11:29

When men impose strict codes of behaviour on women, the women who want to live find ways to do so.

eh? we are talking about some of the least misogynistic societies that have have ever existed, and different gender identities flourished.

Misogynistic cultures tried to wipe out various types of trans people as they did those with homosexual identities.

And misogynistic cultures and beliefs are still trying to deny trans people.
