Rod Liddell is a twat but a stopped clock and all that...

What fucking crap

Sorry if this link has already been posted
https://www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/love-sex/a22141567/trans-and-non-binary-periods/?utmsource=facebook&utmmcampaign=socialflowFB&src=socialflowFB&utmmedium=social

Slightly different viewpoint.

OrchidInTheSun · 23/07/2018 15:58

Wow, that Cosmopolitan article is full of shit. Someone who has periods is a woman, no matter how they identify. If people weren't being they could literally change sex, I suspect they would find their normal bodily functions a lot less distressing.

And it's the height of first world privilege to moan about that immediately after dismissing period poverty. What a pathetic narcissist this person is. I'm furious.

This bit is ridiculous. It's only the uterus that cramps during a period. What other bits could they possibly be referring to?

"All the other stuff that cramps on your period", though...good to see there's actual science behind this. Grin

waterlego6064 · 23/07/2018 16:46

Maybe Bria's prostate is cramping. Bria should definitely see a Dr either way.

waterlego6064 · 23/07/2018 16:53

That Cosmo article...

When you find yourself writing: 'since there are few studies on testosterone’s effect on the nonbinary or trans body, there is no way to predict whether taking testosterone will stop your period or not'

Surely that must feel just a little worrying? Not the uncertainty about periods- the bit about there being few studies on the effects. I would be pretty worried if I was taking a drug like that. Maybe trans people do worry about it, I don't know. I'm just amazed anyone would take the risk, but I guess it just goes to show how strong their feelings are. I think that's so sad. Sad

waterlego6064 · 23/07/2018 16:54

To add- of course, I realise that some people have no choice but to take medication which has severe side effects. Obviously I would take such a drug if it was saving my life, but to do it to change the aesthetics of my body....no way.

BettyDuMonde · 23/07/2018 17:28

The Cosmo article is just more weird twisting of language - of course transmen can have periods, they have female biology!

I’m sure there is a small audience for a supportive article on how to deal with your period in a practical sense whilst minimising dysphoria but I doubt Cosmo has the right readership for that?

This article from the sidebar shows that it’s perfectly possible to live a productive and happy trans life without trying to make the world believe In wholesale untruths:

"This bit is ridiculous. It's only the uterus that cramps during a period. What other bits could they possibly be referring to?"

It's "ALL THE OTHER STUFF THAT CRAMPS ON YOUR PERIOD" naturally. Instagram is being taken over by this nonsense too now. Every single LGBT+ page...lunacy.

Tryingtolisten2 · 26/07/2018 21:46

Not a lot for me to add to this thread except to say that as a transsexual (or trans feminine person) I’ve never felt like I’ve had a period.

If some other trans people are getting cramps maybe they should check their medication and get a blood test to make sure they aren’t starting to experience liver dysfunction?

Ereshkigal · 26/07/2018 21:49

Yes I defo think some of them should be visiting the doctor with the symptoms they describe.

Ereshkigal · 26/07/2018 21:59

Juno Roche is a late transitioning autogynephile, why are they pushing this bullshit on a readership of mostly young women? Are they trying to make Juno some kind of role model for them?

intheparcark · 26/07/2018 22:55

I think this is hilarious.

Someone needs to invent a teeny tiny penis tampon. Grin

intheparcark · 26/07/2018 22:58

These kinds of thing used to make me angry, it's offensive and it's appropriation.

Now I just think, carry on talking, the more people see this the better.

It's got to the stage of Give them enough rope......
In danger of being a laughing stock.

What next?
Fake labour pains?
aka Serena Joy in The Handmaid's Tale?

GrainneWail · 27/07/2018 10:07

I haven't much to add on the issues at hand, their pure bonkersness has been well discussed. It has made me think about my situation though. I have the merina coil so I have almost no period, some very light spotting if anything, but I have cramps and fairly foul pmt. Is a contracting uterus but no bleed a period?
