There's a lot of pretty desperate hyperbole being churned out all over the place today. The very notion that LGBT will turn on lesbians as some kind of punishment for what was a peaceful protest is stretching things a tad, dontcha think?

For so long, the general public has been pressured to buy into transactivist rhetoric on the basis that they must do so in order to be 'pro lgbt'.
It's often a huge relief to know that there are lots of lesbians and gay men who don't believe it's possible to change sex.
Hopefully this protest has spread that message still further.
You don't need to agree to give up single sex spaces in order to prove you're open minded.

bespin the LGB community has certainly had its fair share of intramural controversies, yes. I'm particularly familiar with the unpleasantness around Bi people.

That has bog all to do with Lesbians being able to say what being a lesbian is without fear of reprisal, coercion, etc.

A lesbian is a female homosexual.

Transowmen are male, so any woman dating or sleeping with one isn't a lesbian.

Lesbian is not an identity when you tell someone you are something you identify as it to them this does not change who you are.

Handing out leaflets that explicitly accuse the trans movement and LGBT politics of coercing lesbians to have sex with men (not just some nasty TRAs mind, the whole trans movement) and that refer to ' so-called "trans women" ' at the very front of a parade intended to celebrate inclusivity and diversity seems calculated to cause maximum negative publicity.

Very few transwomen speak out against this behaviour.

Both Stonewall and Diva magazine, plus countless other LGBT organisations and groups all say men can be lesbians.

look if you want to tell other woman they are not something they say they are then that's upto you, your tone is very aggressive. if debating a point is goading then no one can debate any point you make. if you want to close a debate by not letting others have views fine.

Pride has ceased to be a radical gathering definitely.

Young Lesbians shout out about the constant harassment they face, and the vitriol shown against them, speaks volumes to me, about what is really going on.

Bespin, as Datun says, words have meanings. A man is not a woman. A woman who has sex with a man is not a lesbian. You do not get to redefine words like "woman' and "lesbian" to suit yourself.

I think everyone else has answered adequately, bespin. Lesbian is not a 'lifestyle choice'. I used to think I was a lesbian, because I only fancied women, and was hugely conflicted over the matter, especially when I became religious.
But in my latter years I have been attracted to some men, so I don't stubbornly cling to the lesbian label because it's no longer accurate. It would, in fact, be a harmful lie to call myself a lesbian when I would quite happily roll around all night with Aidan Turner as Mitchell the vampire as easily as I would do the same with Heather Peace.

Sexuality is exclusionary. Homosexuality is exclusionary. Lesbians don't do penis. It's the definition of the orientation. It's not a secret club, just like woman is not a secret club. You don't find the secret password and get in. You are... Or you aren't.

I'm simply saying that if you (as in the protesters) head out with a leaflet that uses the term "so-called 'trans women' " for a parade intended to celebrate trans people as part of the pride gang then you are offering yourselves up to be referred to as transphobic.

Likewise throwing a whole movement into a strong accusation of coercing sex, when the message I keep seeing again and again here is that it's just the TRAs or AGPs you're angry with and concerned about. It doesn't make sense, and it's not surprising to see it getting negative coverage.

I would have the same opinion if it were male protesters.

but can you except that other people do see trans woman as woman and therefore there difiniton of themselves is correct to them even if you don't think it is we don't get to decide on what other people say they are do we?

I do not think the people who wrote the leaflet are the only one who do not agree with Stonewall that cross dressers and fetishists are actually gender reassigned.
