I'm just saying that that sign probably wouldn't have much meaning to many people at Pride - many of whom would state that they think transwomen are women and are female.

MrsFogi · 07/07/2018 16:31

I'm totally lost with some of the logic on here now.

If dh decides to self id as a woman on Monday will that make me a lesbian from Monday? And if I have been self-iding as a man on a Friday does this make dh a gay man on a Friday? If so does that mean by self-iding we can impose a different sexuality on a third party (whether they consent or not)?

Answers on a postcode please and complaints to [email protected] Grin.

YourMajestyJ · 07/07/2018 16:31

@YourMajestyJ Please. Not too long ago it was fine to have slaves, own people as properties and for gay people not to be able to marry. Laws can be dubious AND "surprise surprise" discriminatory, so your point being? If you want to sue me for being homophobic though, go ahead, I will be happy to go with my same-sex partner to court and discuss my blatant homophia and hatred for lesbians.

If men can be lesbians, it renders the word lesbian meaningless.

So what do you call female homosexuals?

EmpressWeaponisedClitoris · 07/07/2018 16:32

A lesbian is a female homosexual

What issue would a transwoman have with that? If a transwoman thinks they are female, then surely there'd be no issue with that?

HomoSEXual, not homogenderal.

Gender is irrelevant here, it's about sex. And nobody born with a penis & XY chromosomes can change their sex to female, whatever gender they identify as.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 07/07/2018 16:32

Great quote from GSN there

Oh, and you just told us all we need to know about you by calling same sex attraction being a protected characteristic under law, "discriminatory."

Lesbian my arse.

Grin Have a thought for the partners of the Man Friday crew, who must be changing their sexual orientation one day a week!

aaarrrggghhhh · 07/07/2018 16:34

@Linning -

"Yet their post is about trans people in general which is a totally other kettle of fish in my book." But thats because that is they way that the trans definition is being used. And a lot of the protest is exactly about this widening of the definition.

Are you sure?
Twitter is full if "lob a brick at the lesbian terfs"
"Pride organisers need to ban these women"
"Somebody call the police it us a hate crime"

These 10 brave women showed the trans ideology for what it was today.

I bunch of men who want to fuck women and will use any low handed tactic they can to do so.

Datun · 07/07/2018 16:37

MrsFogi

It's absolutely means that. Which is what spousal veto was all about.

If a woman's husband comes out as trans-, does she have the right to divorce him on that basis, or does this now mean she's in a same sex relationship?

I believe, currently, she can. So if he becomes a legal woman, she is not in a same sex relationship, because she can divorce on that basis.

But I'm a bit sketchy about the actual ins and outs, so I may not have that exactly right.

@Mummyoflittledragon Utopia would be a world where NO women would ever be forced into sex/dating/marriage with someone they don't want to have sex with/date/marry. Of course this world doesn't exist.

This is why, unlike many people here, I haven't been making general statements about entire populations "lesbians" (or not) and talked solely about my own experience and the one of my closed ones. If you read my posts, you will see that I actually acknowledge that some lesbians will find themselves pressured by individuals and this is absolutely not okay. but it's also not okay to generalize (and I talk as someone who is part of the demographic and a rape survivor).
Should trans individuals who pressure women into dating them be torn appart for it? yes. Should the entire trans population be associated with those individuals? I do not believe so.

Moonkissedlegs · 07/07/2018 16:39

What does 'lesbian' mean if a lesbian might have to take oral contraceptives because her lesbian partner doesn't like wearing condoms, and could impregnate her?

This!

TopBitchoftheWitches · 07/07/2018 16:42

Is any tra ever going to prove to me that science (biology) is wrong?

Datun · 07/07/2018 16:42

Linning

All it needs is a collective understanding that lesbian means same-sex attraction.

That's it.

Anyone who is trans can come out to say that on their social media.

Job done, with no one being torn apart.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 07/07/2018 16:42

'Lesbian' is the opposite of inclusive. It's a boundary. It's exclusionary. I think it fucks with women's heads, this, as we're raised to be so niceynice.

RaininSummer · 07/07/2018 16:46

Well done to the ten. Have reported a few twitter posts for inflaming violence.

BettyDuMonde · 07/07/2018 16:48

Floorplan · 07/07/2018 16:51

Has any of this been picked up by a national newspaper?

Linning · 07/07/2018 16:53

@Datun

Except I have just said the opposite and that nobody should feel pressured to have sex with anyone they do not want to have sex with.

Of course lesbians/women/men have the right to refuse sex and to date anyone they do not fancy being with. I am a woman of color, I am well aware that it is a turn off for some. Does that make those people racist? no. it just means they aren't into me, and it's okay, they don't have to be. People can refuse to date anyone they don't want to date for whatever reason they see fit personally.

I have said in my first post that I have no idea whether or not I would date a (post op) trans person myself (the same way I am not sure I could date a butch lady etc...) , and I definitely wouldn't let anyone pressure me to, if I wasn't 100% confident that it is something I want to do/that I like the person.

So I would never tell women who to or not to date.

Again, pressuring anyone into doing something they don't want to do is NOT okay, there is no arguing that, and nobody would say the opposite (or at least certainly not me).

PlectrumElectrum · 07/07/2018 16:53

It'll be interesting how MSM report this. Not seen anything beyond the 2 articles linked.

Yes, with all the emphasis on how inclusive the whole world needs to be of transwomen, lesbianism is a real spanner in the works isn't it?

Why aren't transmen kicking off about gay men not wanting to sleep with them?
