Congratulations on a healthy baby! Hope the birth went safely and that you are recovering well.

I just hate surrogacy in case you can't tell

In the situation of TD’s kid, I think I would want to know which of them was my genetic father, and I also think I would want to know the genetic mother in some way.

Which is why in this country any official fertility treatment allows the child to find this out at 18.

MrsJayy · 01/07/2018 16:32

I watched a documentary about a surrogacy centre in India it was horrific they were churning out baby after baby for rich mostly westerners there was zero ethics even though the very rich Dr was trying to say it was empowering Indian women receive a private income.

Writersblock2 · 01/07/2018 16:32

@BarrackerBarmer - one of the best posts I’ve seen on this thread. Brilliantly articulate. Nailed it for me. Thank you.

SoNotaWendy · 01/07/2018 16:32

starlive22, I just googled those people and I cant really tell. If I had to guess I'd say the daughter is NPH's as her features seemed slightly more angular than the boy twin. It'd be so weird not to know for sure! But I'm sure they do know. I remember when my baby was born, I noticed that she had the same shape fingernails as her dad.

Yes, and I think one of the things that makes so many people feel particularly uneasy about this case is that Tom Daley and his partner were very vocal about the fact they'd had to go to the US to avoid the 'backwards' laws of the UK - ie this sort of thing, along with other requirements that protect both the surrogate and the child. I think there is something uncomfortable about the fact that, because they're rich enough they can, they deliberately chose a system which was much more heavily weighted to their own rights and much less so to everyone else's involved.

MrsJayy was that from a few years ago?
I watched that and was horrified.

MrsJayy · 01/07/2018 16:39

Ihavebrillohair Yes it was on Bbc3 might have been a Stacey Dooley presents...

LunaTrap · 01/07/2018 16:40

Is that what you think of the woman who risked her health to carry and give birth to your children for you Gariguette?

Moonkissedlegs · 01/07/2018 16:40

I saw an interview with Neil Patrick Harris saying he and his partner doesn't know which child is his biologically and which one is biologically his husbands

See for me that seems to be more for the benefit of the adults than the children.

Pratchet · 01/07/2018 16:41

Smile do go on Garig. We can all have a nice glass of wine while you make our point for us.

Honestly, having read these posts as a gay dad to two children born through surrogacy, all I can think is Thank Fucking God that my two sons will never be burdened by having an emotionally-abusive, self-pitying, self-centred, uninformed, unintelligent, moralising "mother" who thinks she has every right to ruin their lives just because she has a uterus.

Wow, so you are grateful that a woman risked her life to give you two sons then Hmm

Christ on a fucking bike.

HemanOrSheRa · 01/07/2018 16:47

Ah there it is. This thread is an eye opener. Everything might be fine in this case. We don't know because there has been no mention of a woman at all. I hope it is.

But I am shocked again (and I don't know why, sadly) about how women are viewed and treated as class. And how this 'normalises' surrogacy as a wonderful thing to do for everyone. Instead of the reality.

RebelRogue · 01/07/2018 16:50

@Gariguette are you referring to the mother of your children or the women against surrogacy on here?

Sabistick · 01/07/2018 16:50

The fact that gariguette cant even write mother , without venom and quote marks, says everything. I bet he says he is so "brave".

Gariguette · 01/07/2018 16:51

No, LunaTrap, that's what I think of you and your ilk. Enjoy your martyrdom.

Our surrogate is an amazing, happy, successful person who we cherish in our life, and she, and her husband and kids, would be appalled by many of these postings.

BesmirchingMotherhood · 01/07/2018 16:51

Way to make a point Garig.

Good thing nothing in your post sounds like entitlement.

LangCleg · 01/07/2018 16:57

When someone tells you who they are, believe them.

I suppose there's nowhere else to go once adoption agencies have run away screaming without getting through the first page of a suitability assessment...

LunaTrap · 01/07/2018 16:58

Did you buy her by circumventing UK law Gariguette? Assuming not you seem to be taking the criticism of commercial surrogacy and the implications for women and babies very personally. Well done for proving posters points though, your anger at women for daring to discuss an issue fundamental to women reeks of misogyny and entitlement.

Nice balanced civilised view of women there, eh.

Take your misogyny elsewhere please.

BertrandRussell · 01/07/2018 17:00

“Our surrogate is an amazing, happy, successful person who we cherish in our life,“

So presumably not an anonymous womb for hire........

BesmirchingMotherhood · 01/07/2018 17:00

TutteringFuckwits might be my next username.

Moonkissedlegs · 01/07/2018 17:01

@Gariguette

So for clarity, was your surrogate paid or not?
