You are amazing Rowantrees your info on threads is so helpful.

LangCleg · 18/07/2018 09:52

So, this boils down to: Daim provided a wildly inaccurate account of the WPUK meeting in a way similar to the Zapruder account of Maria Miller's assault?

Colour me shocked.

Pratchet · 18/07/2018 10:00

Also interesting that the anti-women faction are allowed to make any number of personal comments about the women attending the meeting, but a reciprocal description of the protesters as too young to know better and apparent strangers to personal hygiene would not go down well.

ToeToToe · 18/07/2018 10:07

Daimbars wasn't doxxed by MNetters - her twitter hasn't been linked to on here (I'm pretty sure it would be deleted pronto if it had).

Daimbars was all over the WPUK speaker's twitter TLs yesterday - posted the exact same phrases as she used on here. It was so, so obvious. Anybody reading this thread, and through the WPUK stuff on Twitter would have been able to see it.

She was on Twitter under her own name, linked to her blog - and what she was saying on Twitter was far nastier than anything she's said here (it would be deleted on MN). She was calling WPUK 'witches' and stuff.

R0wantrees · 18/07/2018 10:08

Within this thread Daim provided her perspective of the meeting.

It was quickly countered by people who were there and then by the notes from speakers.

The screen grab of Daim's post on this thread is not linked to the thread and so will (no doubt) be passed on as a truthful account of the meeting (largely unchallenged)

The use of mass terfblockers and the way that twitter works means that thousands will see this and absorb it as 'truth'.

Its also not surprising therefore that many within the LGBT+ community believe that WPUK, MN, ManFriday, Get the L out etc are so 'anti-trans' / 'bigoted' etc

Pratchet · 18/07/2018 10:13

Agree Rowan. Also worth remembering that quite a few LGBT Equalities officials/staff at local or national level will also have terf blocker and therefore will have absorbed the lie.

Pratchet · 18/07/2018 10:14

Plus, bloggers and even columnists may use terfblocker.

Pratchet · 18/07/2018 10:16

Owen Jones, major contributor to the media depiction of feminists, blocks thousands. Simply not possible for these people to represent anything but an echo chamber - and that goes for the Equalities Department I dare say.

Ereshkigal · 18/07/2018 10:29

The use of mass terfblockers and the way that twitter works means that thousands will see this and absorb it as 'truth'.

This is a real problem with social media generally and it's making it easy to lie and create fake news about this issue and many others.

R0wantrees · 18/07/2018 10:33

The clearest example of this was the deliberate lie perpetrated and then widely absorbed that Anne Ruzylo had said that 'transwomen were hateful mysogynistic bastards'

This is Anne's full speech from November 2017 and her nuanced description of 'hateful mysogynistic bastards' is at 12:00:

R0wantrees · 18/07/2018 10:37

James Kirkup Spectator article March 2018 'Fear & Loathing Grips the Gender Debate'

(extract)
"Here, I need to make a couple of things clear. First, lamenting the fear and abuse these women suffer does not in any way dispute or minimise or disregard the abuse and prejudice that many transgender people suffer. This isn’t an either/or situation: there is hardship and pain on both sides, and none of it is acceptable in a decent society.

Second, the people responsible for the fear and abuse these women suffer are not representative of transgender people as a whole; the transgender population must be assumed to contain as wide a distribution of vice and virtue as any other group. Indeed, some of those involved in this debate suspect that at least some of the real authors of that fear and abuse are not transwomen but men intent on frightening and diminishing women. Certainly, some male supporters of transgender rights seem to take a certain pleasure in the anxieties of women who question that agenda." (continues)

Popchyk · 18/07/2018 10:39

Thanks for all the info, R0wan.

You are doing a great job.

R0wantrees · 18/07/2018 10:42

This is a real problem with social media generally and it's making it easy to lie and create fake news about this issue and many others.

I completely agree that it is a common issue with Social Media.

The additional aspects of mass 'terf' blockers and the reporting systems of Twitter have added significant power to those who are manipulating SM.

Twitter is also significant in so far as it gives (what seems to be) open access to politicans, public figures, media etc

NoDykeDoesDick · 18/07/2018 12:40

Probably not a good idea to try and raise your public profile when you are a screaming misyogynist and homophobe. Especially when the lies an inconsistencies are there for all to see.

iamawoman · 18/07/2018 12:51

Pratchett -"they looked like they just needed the company" vipers tongue :) Grin

I actually was surprised how few there were there, given it was brighton. I dont think they have as many supporters as they think in this city.

Interestingly a lot of Brighton council employees thought the whole My pronoun badge fiasco was a load of tosh. This movement is really driven by teens and cross dressing middle aged men and a few 'inclusive lesbians notreallylesbians' (DIVA)

VulvaOfSteel · 18/07/2018 13:09

@daimbars you were all over this thread before, where are you now?

Now that everything you have said has been well documented as bullshit and you have slandered Kathleen Stock, can you please apologise publicly? Or are you happy to share misinformation. I think it would be good if @mnhq look in to your posting history on this thread as you clearly have an agenda.

daimbars · 18/07/2018 13:11

Yep, that is what the trans protesters were asking for outside the venue on Monday. Encouraging allies to support the GRA proposals.

VulvaOfSteel · 18/07/2018 13:13

I honestly think everything she posts on MN whatever thread should be responded with ('have you apologised yet?' and a link to this thread) If we are all transphobic witches why are you here? Gaslighting people who were actually at the forum (and stayed to hear it all!) isn't going to convince us you're right.

Melamin · 18/07/2018 13:16

The Witches post on twitter was particularly crass.

ToeToToe · 18/07/2018 13:17

Hadn't quite said all you had to say, then Daim?

Did it stop being all about you for a second there? Oh dear - you best come back on and start stirring again!

Sarahconnor1 · 18/07/2018 13:18

Sorry Daim I don't understand what you are saying. The petition asks for:

  • Respectful and evidence-based discussion about the impact of proposed changes and for women's voices to be heard.

  • The government to consult with women’s organisations on how self-declaration would impact on women-only services and spaces, data-gathering, and monitoring of sex-based discrimination.

  • The principle of single-sex spaces to be upheld – and where necessary extended.

Are you suggesting the signatures from the brighton area are all trans allies?

daimbars · 18/07/2018 13:20

VulvaOfSteel Just popped in.
Got nothing to apologise for, watch the video before you accuse me of lying.
Hope Kathleen Stocks apologises for her sneering dig at trans women. If she classes that as a 'joke' then she absolutely deserves to look at a video of the Grand High Witch conference from Roald Dahl's classic children's story 'The Witches' and reflect on the similarities between that conference and what I witnessed on Monday.

NoDykeDoesDick · 18/07/2018 13:32

Afternoon Daimbars, have you had a chance to look at the links I posted?

The first one I linked to shows that it's the autogynephiles that talk about about having periods. Autogynephiles really shouldn't be thought of as transwomen, if they have gender dysphoria it's driven by their paraphilia.

If you care about transsexuals you wouldn't support these AGPs.

Melamin · 18/07/2018 13:41

If she classes that as a 'joke' then she absolutely deserves to look at a video of the Grand High Witch conference from Roald Dahl's classic children's story 'The Witches' and reflect on the similarities between that conference and what I witnessed on Monday

That is all in your mind - your view of things - and it was not the view of anyone else there.

I don't think tweeting bits of The Witches, whoever wrote the story, is really the way to go about asking for an apology from someone you have misrepresented.
