Regarding the age demographic- of course having young children blocks many women from their 20s to their 40s from coming. One good friend of mine was unable to come as her husband was working late. Personally I am a lone parent and I chose to spend the equivalent of half my week's food and petrol budget on a babysitter so I could do it. If I hadn't been organising I probably wouldn't have felt it was worth such a big expense.

It's utterly misogynist to ignore that demographic of women and fail to consider why they may be excluded from such aspects of public life.

Sarahconnor1 · 18/07/2018 07:15

Daimbarshas lost any credibility

If Daim truly believed what she has been saying here, she wouldn't be so inconsistent in her statements and wouldn't make assumptions about people based on appearance.

Which takes me back to a previous point, I'm now very suspicious of her motives and I'm convinced this is all just to further a bloggers career and gain Twitter followers.

Icedgemsandjelly · 18/07/2018 08:10

Following from earlier....I'm really happy for someone to repost my post in a new thread if you think the theme is useful to the debate.

I'm not really ready to kick it off myself.

(I'm a regular on MNer but I have some tricky life situations I've posted about so together quite identifying. I name change from time to time)

I also have a very public facing job which makes attending local events very problematic. I'm not going to meet in rl and I'm not senior enough to style it out.

If they weren't so controversial and just open debate then it would be easier. It's a shame Uni of Sussex can't host something for example.

Continuing to follow with interest

TerfsUp · 18/07/2018 08:26

Meh. Daimbars claims to be a woman and a lesbian and to have a daughter.

I claim to be a woman, too, but you have to take my word for it the way we have to take Daim's word for it.

bigoldscaredycat · 18/07/2018 08:27

TerfsUp, daimbars RL identity was revealed on Twitter yesterday. She is a woman (a real one) with a young daughter. I found it hard to believe too in view of her anti-women stance.

Melamin · 18/07/2018 08:42

TerfsUp, daimbars RL identity was revealed on Twitter yesterday which she managed all by herself by posting the same words she had written here, about the meeting, in an attack on Kathleen Stock.

Pratchet · 18/07/2018 08:57

Did Daimbars actually say 'I am a woman?' Surely not.

bigoldscaredycat · 18/07/2018 09:03

There’s a photo of her on her twitter page and a link to her blog where she blogs about motherhood. Not going to link because unlike the TRAs I’m not into doxxing people. Easy to find though.

Melamin · 18/07/2018 09:14

Well, she looks cross Grin

Pratchet · 18/07/2018 09:18

The tide has definitely turned in one sense. The protestors felt the need to megaphone that people were entitled to attend the meeting. And TRA finally took #wpuk at their word, and attended and contributed to a meeting (ignoring the wailing and renting of clothes at the back). I can't see things going backwards.

NynaeveSedai · 18/07/2018 09:21

That's not daim. Please don't post her twitter on here!
Daim is a woman and I'm pretty sure she's married to another woman with a baby.

Pratchet · 18/07/2018 09:21

Thank you Cat. I saw the twitter picture. You are probably right. It always comes down to clicks in the end.

OvaHere · 18/07/2018 09:23

That's not her, just someone quoting daim's post on here.

I don't think it matters who daim is IRL, I'm not sure why they outed themselves so obviously. We can debate what someone posts on here whether they choose to remain anonymous not.

Pratchet · 18/07/2018 09:23

That's just CH reposting though. Married to a woman or a self-identified transperson? Does anyone know?

shitsgettingreal · 18/07/2018 09:23

daimbars is probably LOVING showing the world that Mumsnet is trying to doxx her.

Pratchet · 18/07/2018 09:24

I'm a little curious, after you all tied her in such knots a couple of nights ago (great entertainment by the way)

NynaeveSedai · 18/07/2018 09:24

I'm about as sure as I can be that her wife is a woman

MillyTheKid · 18/07/2018 09:24

Well, she looks cross

I think that's someone who has just screengrabbed the post unless I've read her intro to it wrongly.

NynaeveSedai · 18/07/2018 09:27

Yes, I think it's pretty unfair to keep discussing her like this. I'm responding because u really don't want the narrative to be accepted that daim is trans or married to a TW and that's why she's so cussed on this issue. It's vital that we understand that normal, everyday women feel this way. Othering this pov as 'trans rights activists' is unhelpful

Pratchet · 18/07/2018 09:37

Further proof that TRA are listening and being forced to adjust their narrative was the chanting 'trans'men are men'. These are small changes but for TRA they are quite significant. They have sat in meetings and acknowledged that the things we say have traction.

Pratchet · 18/07/2018 09:39

There were lots of women at the protest Nynaeve. To be fair some looked like they just needed the company, but they were definitely there chanting. Definitely more women than trans people.

R0wantrees · 18/07/2018 09:39

I wasn't suggesting the twitter account was Daimbars.
I was illustrating how Daimbars' viewpoint and MN was characterised by a TRA and being shared.

R0wantrees · 18/07/2018 09:47

Apologies for creating any confusion, I am doing three things at once here!
